  • U2 is the best band

  • One of my favorite (U2) songs, but please, Bono, this is a tribute: take off those damned glasses.

  • Thank you for posting this - it is beautiful. In Johnny's video you can hear the lyrics just a bit better but this is absolutely beautiful and such a great combination of two legends - Johnny and U2 - what a great tribute (to both actually)!

  • Great line: "The say they want the kingdom but they don't want God in it."

  • He's not even playing the guitar. I love Johnny Cash. But that's an insult. Bono. Feed your ego.

  • @benwarke The only "INSULT" is from "YOURSELF" -Bono wrote the song and obviously was first to ever sing the song? This song was made by these guys and given to Johnny Cash as a gift,Johnny had a great personal relationship with Bono, you obviously know jack shit, any decent Cash fan would acknowledge the fact!!!

Bono also plays the guitar in parts if you watch the video!!!

YOU ARE JUST A HATER AND I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU

  • I saw U2 in Nashville in July. During that show they played "The Wanderer." I believe that is the only time they played it on one of their tours. Here's an HD video of the "The Wanderer" in Nashville: youtube video id: P_zECvAUuQw

  • Absoulutely love this version....really nice to listen to

  • Wow. I had no idea of this tribute. Love the Cash version but always wondered how Bono would handle it. Thanks for posting. Amazing.

  • OMG love Edge's voice in this....WOW!!!!

  • It's something that Bono's changed the "I went out for the papers/Told her I'd be back by noon" verse, apparently this was the only line of the song Johnny didn't like.

  • 11 people are wandering the music world

  • is edge's voice that good or is it a recording?

Well, it is Mr. The Edge, so chances are hes just doin his thing...what a guy

  • Damn what a song !!

  • Go Edge

  • Extraordinary or ordinary....so which one is it?

  • Go Edge!! we finally hear your voice too :)

  • Nothing to say about this song. My goose bumps and watery eyes said all there is to say. What else would anyone expect coming from the band that changed lives and the world.

  • Just noticed that Bono finally changed the "went out for the papers" line that Johnny hated. Awesome. :)

  • Did he change "gun" to "sun", nice touch but come on man...

  • @SirRobert78 Not 'sun', but 'Son', as in Jesus

  • Hat and sunglasses? On or the other Bono: too much detail

  • amazing

  • Wow, great performance.. this was one of my favorite songs from the Zooropa album... I think Bono and the fellows made Johnny proud..

  • I had never heard this song til I saw this on the Tribute to Johnny. Both Cash and U2 have excellent versions.

  • My friend and I didn't really know much Johnny Cash when this came out, but this was our favorite U2 song!

  • Pure class, there still number 1

  • 10 people are named sue

  • the announcer is jaquin pheonix who played johnny cash in walk th line.

  • @alicetay23 jaquin pheonix hehehe from mexico or joaquin phoenix from usa

  • Who is the announcer ? Colin Farrell ???

  • u2 respects the History of Music and not only in comprehension, but thru implementation. That is what separates them from today's crap!

  • The Edge sings like an angel!

  • Epic.

  • I love this song on Zooropa. It's so out of place yet so perfect

  • I like this version a lot

  • Edge over the top!!

  • holy shit.....what a song.

little dissapointed that bono sings"i when walking with a bible and a sun".

johnny cash told the truth....with a gun U.S.A are solving probs.

  • Fantastic song, and u2 and Johnny will always be the best, no one can compare, thanks for sharing

  • They say they want the Kingdom, but they don't want God in it

  • I really do not care for this song. But this is a good performance

  • When the album came out, i heard this song and couldn't stop playing it. Must have played it 50 times a day back then.

  • @itsjustnopinionok probably my fave off the album!

  • "They say they want the kingdom but they don't want God in it...."

  • Good version!

  • Bono may well be a genious, but Edge is an angel send by god .. !

  • Love the song. Do not like that they changed from the original "...with a Bible and a gun"—that juxtaposition is necessary for the message/tone of the song. Otherwise, it was an excellent tribute.

  • The Edge, simply amazing

  • Amazing.

  • ha johnny rules bono blows dogs. yayayayayaaaa

  • Absolutely amazing. This blows my mind everytime I watch it.

  • Beautiful song, outstanding performance... U2 with legend JC...

  • Uau!!! It´s a rare song played by U2!!! Very cool!!! I love love love U2!!!The maximum!!!

  • They backed him in the original version- Bono wrote it. I'm a fan of both singers and have to say no song Johnny sang ever sounds the same with any other singer.

  • i much prefer the Johnny cash version. Though Im glad they did this as it was a nice tribute

  • RIP Johnny, see you in heaven!

  • Also is the 'capital of tin' a reference to china? Lovely lyrics, old school u2

  • I hated this song when zooropa came out, but have gradually learnt to appreciate. This is a beautiful version

  • they changed the best line in the song!

  • @sadmachine A TV network request, maybe to stop a coalition of the Right from saying how Bono would dare say a connection between The Bible and murder. Who would have thought? But Bono is also a diplomat and also knows how to play his cards right. He probably knew that only Johnny Cash would have delivered the line with such passion. The performance was about remembering Johnny Cash, not the potential to create a controversy for FOX network or talkback radio. Just a thought.

  • u2 u2 u2 u2 u2 u2

simply the best of all times

cash will be happy cause u2 sing about him

  • @zakilaouira The best band in the world!!! I love love love U2!!!

  • @thaisaldanhaful agree with you

  • The best band ever...

  • Edge.

  • THE EDGE! RAWK!

  • 2:50 "I went out searching, looking for one good man" (Camera cuts to Adam)

    Thank you, camera folks!

  • Good, but just not the same. Johnny is irreplaceable. Good version, all the same.

  • u2 have made me happy all my life more then anyone else ,even more then the missus .! there will never be another u2 .i hope they keep goin all the way till 2030!

  • @TheItaliamarco I also think the same about iron maiden. But, hell, they're getting old. -_-

  • great!

  • One word: goosebumps..

A beautiful tribute to Johnny Cash.

  • EDGE!

  • There is the occasional break. What I mean is, a couple friends of mine got that lucky break and are now on their way to the big time. If you've heard of the vocal duo called Steel Magnolia, they are a couple friends of mine. Meghan lindsee and Josh Jones. They primarily classified as country, but they mix a bit of pop and soul to their style. BUT, they are really good and Meghan has vocal ability that will blow you away. I'm waiting for the label to give her the chance to let loose.

  • I wouldn't say that one version is better than the other, just that they're different interpretations of the same song. One sings of pain and struggle he experienced in the journey he had thus far completed. The other sings of the promise of the redemption he has found.

  • I never heard the original version of this song, so I have to say (atleast for now) that I LIKE this song a lot. I've been in the music industry for over 20 years and heard stuff they CALL music and it sounds ABSOLUTELY LIKE CRAP!!! Especially (C)RAP!!!

  • @yucchhiiowwee

The music industry is the reason why we get nor more talents of Rock or Metal. They only wan't to make money and this VERY FAST. Rap is for Kids. They like Rap. So very fast money for the industry. No real music 99% computer. Very easy and cheap to make profit for the music industry. Pity for the REAL MUSIC!

  • Theres so many ways this version suck, compared to the Zooropa version. For starters: This song was made for Johnny Cash, and Bono just cant handle it. The melody, low notes and great monotony are actually not that easy to pull off, and goes against Bono's usual way of singing.

Its also a pity that they needed to do a slow-rock version of this. The production on Zooropa has more depth and refinement and is extraordinary (thanks to Brian Eno), which this version is definitly not.

  • Wow...... Edge the spine of U2, puts the shivers through my spine.

  • THE fact that U2 managed to get what are proberbly the two greatest voices ever to sing one of there songs that they wrote with them in mind ..Roy Orbison & Johnny Cash ....is pure achievement an must have been like a dream come true for them an still must be

  • No, it's not better than the Zooropa version, though it's a great performance.

  • :)

  • better than the zoorpoa version.

  • i think this is one of the nicest performances ive seen from U2 - great tribute to a legend Johnny Cash, :-)

  • i think this is one of the nicest performances ive seen from U2 - great tribute to a lengend Johnny Cash, :-)

  • This shows again what great songwriter Bono is. He can write songs for artists of every genre I guess. This is for me one of the best songs Johnny has ever give his voice to. I miss him so much. Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand.

  • anyone notice that adam really can't play the bass? he needs lessons from chick corea.

  • @VanGoghRothko

new years day? mysterious ways?? never listened this ??? seriously...

  • Falsetto is fine, but hearing them compared to Cash's performace is a little annoying. I deal with enough Falsetto from Bono.

  • It's great! I LOVE these falsettos! Thanks to that the song is very interesting and nice to hear.

  • it's bible and a gun NOT bible and the sun

  • falsetto sucks

  • @VanGoghRothko YOU SUCK

  • @coolkid2446 oh look at the well thought out response of a retard. calling you a retard would be a disservice to people with real disabilities.

  • @VanGoghRothko just shut up retard

  • @VanGoghRothko You suck

  • @mrsamrocks2 oh that has all the intelligence of a third grader, they should ban you from youtube as you need to have an IQ greater than that of a rock. this whole performance is an abomination. from the introduction, 'u2 for the people, common people' what a load of bullshit. when was the last time they played at Folsom prison? San Quentin? Cash, the real deal, u2 live in luxury in ireland & malibu, edge has huge place while they own country is bankrupt, get ready for another irish exodus

  • @VanGoghRothko And when did Johnny Cash ever get nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize? No disrespect to the Man In Black, but Bono's sustained philanthropic work over decades (he is an acknowledged expert on debt relief and unassailable humanitarian) seems a bit more substantive than showing up at a prison one afternoon to record an album that made him millions. Don't let the facts get in the way of your tiny mind and anger though. Now would be a good time to remove your head from your anus.

  • As much as i like u2, as big fan as i am of them, but they should not have ruined this song live. Bono cannot sing this song... and what's with the edge screaming like a bitch?

  • @nelsoncarmo26 exactly that falsetto sucks big time.

  • @nelsoncarmo26 fuck i lol'd

  • @TheToxicRadio Yeah, it is funny to watch. I don't how he got the guts to do that... I would have said: NO! bono... fuck off!

  • sounds like edge is gettin squeezed in the balls

  • @JOOERAAV Well, someone had to say it...Thanks :)

  • 'THE MAN IN BLACK'

  • holy crap Edge startled me...in a good way ;)

  • Thank U Bono for your contribution in keeping the memory of Johnny Cash alive! Both of you are truly God's blessings upon us

  • My favourite actor in the world, and my favourite band in the world. How cool is that ?

  • @Fisch269 U rock man. Same for me!

  • I wonder if Johhny and U2 did a duet of the Wanderer on a tape somewhere?

Can you hear Johnny' s low rumble, Bono's soulful sound and the occasional falsetto bits by The Edge. That would be awesome!!!

  • @ArashikageNinjaClan Johnny joined U2 during a concert in Ireland. Someone some where will hopefully post it...

  • The Edge Canta Muito.

  • Johnny made every song he covered his song. He was one of a kind.

  • magnifica..l atmosfera da salotto-country la rende ancora piu irresistibile

  • Oh, when I heard Edge I died! Hah he's great. I love them and that song.

  • this is amazing. i can't decide who does a better job of singing this...

  • Absolutely one of the best Bono written songs!

  • i want this song as an audio file (the record of u2) where can i get it from?

  • The Edge's falsetto makes me very happy. =]

  • EDGE.....thats all

  • The Edge steals the show with his falsettos..............

  • @Philphoenix1: He could sing with the Bee-Gees... ;)

  • AMAZING !!! RIP CASH `O`

  • cool

  • achtung baby and zooropa only the two good albuns of u2 the rest sucks

  • @marialfabeta

I would say that there is many more good U2 albums! of the new albums I would say that How to dismantle an atomic bomb is the best. joshua tree is a really good album with :Streets Have No Name,I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For,With Or Without You .

    1. achtung baby 2. How to dismantle an atomic bomb 3. rattle and hum 4. joshua tree 5. under a blood red sky

thats my top 5 . /. rick / guitar VINDRA

  • @vindratheband ok you are u2 band fan .my music its other pixies, pavement wallkmen strokes

  • @marialfabeta I am not 100% sure about it, but I have to admit that Zooropa is U2's best album IMHO

  • @volkderfreiheitzwei you not sure ,but for me no rest any dub

  • A bible and a son :(.........It should be a bible and a GUN! why are the words wrong????

  • @1989JCH Because the world is a cruel and terrible place.

  • @1989JCH Changed is the word ;)

  • @1989JCH I noticed that also. There is depth in all U2 songs. A Bible and son, is the revised wording (which Bono is totally within his artistic liberty to alter) to a Bible and a gun because it would stir melee. Not what you need at a tribute to Cash. At heart Bono is an ardent Christian with lyrics which would make liberals and conservatives squirm if they reflected deeper.

  • @slamadew2 :} Cash did great with this song though

  • Great. I ;ove you guys. God bless you. philillie

  • Que bien estaría escucharla en el 360 tour!!!! Spain Rulezzzz

  • God bless Bono Vox, The Edge, Adam Cayton e Larry M. Jr. e que eles voltem ao Brasil para mais shows o quanto antes!

  • My favourite band --> U2

My favourite singer --> Johnny Cash

My favourite actor --> Joaquin Phoenix

Not kidding :) Thnx for this video.....

  • God bless Johnny Cash!

  • The extraordinary and ordinary U2. Nothing less...

  • Amazing song...amazing U2....Rip Johnny...;)

  • great

  • To the Edge ~ The Legendary Guitarist was very aware of who you were. We watched you on TV with Bono and the U-2 Band.

Hank also listned to the Joshua Tree. Hank loved the songs.

Much Love and God Bless each of you & yoru Families,

    The Hank Garland Family

  • if they had done this version on the album, it would have rivaled Stay as the best track on the album.

  • wa wa wa wa why why! :D cool :)

  • I love U2 and would normally defend them all the way. But in this circumstance I think that one of the guys in the band should've said, "hey Edge, drop the ya ya ya ya bit mate, it's very un Jonny Cash and doesn't sound so good". Just an opinion from a forever U2 fan. Other than that I liked that version. Oh, and regarding the lyrical change, I think that Bono just forgot the words. Who knows?

  • @amedee01

I suspect it's probably because has done anti-arms trade activism in the past. I'm not sure where exactly this tribute took place, maybe it was a more "family friendly" environment. You're right though, who knows. Even though Edge's bit is somewhat un-Johnny, I think it's a neat touch. But that's just me.

  • Bible and a Gun not Bible in the Sun. Otherwise this is a great version. But that lyrical omission bothers me.

  • @Flemtar U2 is a anti-gun period band. They can't pay him the respect he deserves by leaving the song intact, but they are so anti-gun hippie they can't say gun.

  • @Flemtar: Of course it bothers. It shows all the "political-correctness" which represents a deadly compromise. And not only for an artist.

However, the song is written by them, and Cash performed it. But it would have been the least to keep the "gun" line, considered Johnny Cash's life as the unicum each life represent in its most sacred aspect.

  • What year was this?

  • i don't like edges vocals, is ruins a good performance and tribute to the late Mr Cash.

  • Great that they paid respect to Johnny, but it pales in comparison to Johnny's version

  • what's the fuck with edge screwing up it all with that 'wa-wa'-crap-backvocal??

  • @Giangrasso Its called rock-n-roll. Know your history.

  • I've never seen this. Thanks for posting. Please U2, don't become PC. Just say it as it was.

  • @dallasglenn2005 I think you need not worry about that. They are more direct now than they were 20 years ago, and their message has direction. "Don't become a monster to kill a monster."

  • It is amazing how subtle they are when they brainwash us. Put my name in the list of people who prefer the original. A bible and a gun it is for me.

    MICHAEL

  • Now Joaquin Phoenix is a rapper. sad

  • min 3:05 Whoa...whoa...WHOA! Lets take that back a scoch. "I went walking with a Bible in the SUN ?" Johnny Cash meant every word in them lyrics and they say "Bible and a GUN". The Man in Black knew exactly where he was a comin' from...

  • @RideMyBMW

This song is original by U2, from their Zooropa album and was composed by Bono and The edge.

Indeed Bono did sung it on the album, but he didn't feel confident, so he and the band asked Johnny Cash to perform it, and the record was amazing.

  • @RideMyBMW I went out walking with a Bible and THE SON." Then he goes on to tell the Lord not to wait, as he will be home soon.

  • @RideMyBMW Much respect...but this song wasn't written by the late and great Johnny Cash but by Bono and The Edge.

  • @tommywm24 is a anti-gun period band. They can't pay him the respect he deserves by leaving the song intact, but they are so anti-gun hippie they can't say gun.

  • Interesting that Bono decided to change the "went out for papers" line that Johnny apparently hated!!

  • holy shit edge!

  • a great song from a great band for a great man

  • @leonvisser thank you :)

  • Join us on FaceBook @ American Republicans 4 U2

  • its make me wanna cry, its makes me sensitive.

    We love you Johnny!

  • who is the man in the begining of the video? joaquin phoenix????
