Bankruptcy works really well. Bailouts don't. The gov. is going to repeat the same mistakes that Hoover and FDR made that turned a recession into the first Great Depression.
BTW, Ron Paul submitted a bill in 2003 to reign in Fannie and Freddie. That probably would have averted this whole mess. In the pitch he made to congress, he predicted the outcome that we are now watching in horror.

I reckon he was convinced the job was too important to leave to someone else to screw it up, as Snow was doing. Paulson has now said he will retire from government after this year. So I believe he has had enough. It will be interesting to see he next move. One thing's for sure, he has been a catalyst in getting things done. That is a useful skill. But can we trust his motives, and his judgment? An open question
