  • the martingale or breastplate is not really neccesary unles your dooing jumps or something

  • very helpful. i just got a horse and i have to board it because i live in a city. My boarder has me do a bunch of test on my horse, like grooming and what not.

This will help me when it is my first time tacking Joker up. (joker is my horse)

  • SPEAK A LITTLE QUIETER WHY DON'T YA!

  • Everyone needs to stop being so fricking critical . She tacked up the horse perfectly fine . nothing has to be perfect , seriously ? the horse isn't gonna get hurt if she puts the martingale on first , like wtf people ? you all just think your right because you have your own damn horse . no one cares . i dont have a horse and i know i tack the horse and pony that i ride up perfectly fine , thank you very much :) -to theslyhorse , you did great ! don't worry about other peoples critisism .

  • Thanks! This is going to help me so much!

  • You did not brush the belly. Its really important and if there is dirt where there where you put the girth it can rub on the skin and at worst it can start to bleed.

  • thanks for the video it helped me

  • @MIsstelleEstelle learn how to type BEFORE you coment

  • @TheMisshorsemad Um....that is how you put a bridel on there is not any other way un-less you have a completely diffrent bridle.

  • Where does the martingale go through??? The Nose band or the throat latch???

  • I hav bein riding for years, n no one really taught me how to do it, i just did it my own way, n i hav a tast comming up at my pony club on tacking up n grooming, n u helped me alot thnx!

  • I DONT REALLY CARE IF SHE DID IT WRONG I LEARNED ALOT

I LOVE HORSES BUT MY MUM DOESNT SO I DONT GET TO HORSE RIDE MUCH

ANY WAY I LEARNED ALOT MY BFF OWNS A HORSE AND I WATCH HER TACK UP HER HORSE AND THE PERSON WHO DID THIS VIDEO DID SOME STUFF WRONG BUT I ENJOYED IT =) =) =)

  • also thats not how to put the bridle on

  • @TheMisshorsemad Really? I'd love to see another way to do it! lol

  • that is how to put the bridle on

  • @MIsstelleEstelle Im so sorry that was my sister but me I dont know anything about horses! SORRY ??

  • Comment removed

  • you don't have to unbuckle the reins!

  • @TheMisshorsemad Well of course not. But by already having them attached, i'll have something around his neck when I take his halter off if he tries to walk away.

  • why is everyone nagging to her?? i think she knows her horse the best! and the horse was very calm though so why is everyone telling her: put the saddle first and then the breastplate sjees.... everybody tacks his horse the way they know their horses best!!!

  • very beautiful horse!!nice video!!:)

  • I have been riding for eight years and have a horse. First of all, I have to say that some things you were tought incorrectly. You never point a hoof pick towards you while cleaning the hooves- always point it away from you. Also, do not put on the martingale/breastplate on first. Put on the saddle and the right side of the girth on first, then put the martingale on and slide it through the right side of the girth then connect the girth to the left side of the saddle.

  • @TheBeatlesFan2 It doesn't matter when you put the martingale on. Personal preference. Your being overly critical.

  • I have been riding for eight years and I now own a Thoroughbred. From what I can tell, you don't have much experience. You never point a hoof pick towards you. Also, you shouldn't put on the martingale or breastplate on first. You put the saddle on horse's back and then attach the girth to the right side of the saddle. Then you put the martingale/breastplate on the horse and so on. Also, on the left side of the horse, you don't put the girth through the slot on the saddle pad- only on the right.

  • That was really easy to understand. Thank you :)

  • I have a Appaloosa Mare called Firefly I go to Hallam Valley pony club in narre warren north, I started riding when i was 3 years old

  • Thanks for the info on the eve of my first show day and Mill Farm Riding School. The instructions were really easy to understand...when i could hear them.

  • That is a good video I have learned and now have a ting bit more knowledge of hot to tack my horse :)

  • um to those people who were being rude !!! you can pick the hooves out first or last it really doesn't matter !! what matters is the horse is getting clean and well taken care of so SHUT UP ALREADY !!! EVERYONE IS TAUGHT DIFFERENT !!

  • i looove your video. People should stop saying that your not doing it right. Thats exactally how i do it .

  • people dont tell her what to do like she knows wat she is doing and horselover8901 sorry it looks like i coppied ur name i didnt sorry!!

  • good video the horse i ride does the same thing he bobs his head a lot and tries to eat the crossties

  • Nice Mare, what's her name?

  • It is not called a breastplate, it's called a martingale.

  • @Spellisawsome it is a breastplate the martingale is like a breastplate but with the extra rings that u attach to the reins, they both do different things. lolz i also get confused

  • Thanks that really help me with the saddle and saddle pad I always had trouble with that lol.

  • its how she was taught i dont do it that way but its up to her :)

  • you forgot to tell people to pull the saddle pad up into the gullet of the saddle

  • i dont know what these people are talking about but thats how i groom my horse. everyone is taught different so dont insult people just do it your own way. and ive been riding for 9 years and this is exactly how i tack up. good job!

  • really well behaved horse,whats his/her name?

  • Hey thanks! :)

  • thanks this video was really informative =]

  • yeaaaa good video :) i would do a few things different but very handy for beginers :D x

  • Can i just say I am a new horse rider and i think this video really helped me, because i need to know everything from the first lesson on. And to those people who think they have it all figured out you may be wrong. depending on where you go and how you get taught is how you do it. So to those people who think they can doit better then go on show us

  • hey thanks this video helped a lot.

  • Go pay attention to that puppy! :) Poor baby's crying!! :'(

  • Thanks you have given a complete novice some well needed confidence. A++++++++++

  • lol i like ur voice

(hope that didn't sound weird) lol

  • Theslyhorse, I liked the video, it does not matter how you tack up a horse, as long as you remeber the girth! =)

I LOVED the horse you tacked up, what was her/his name?

I'll send you a message so you can reply,

    Thanks

  • Great job, little thing i must say though. Put your girth on first, If the horse happens to get spooked and the girth is not attached but the saddle is attached to the breastplate, that is risking the saddle to swing in front of the horses neck and spook them more and also risk getting their legs caught up or the saddle destroyed.

Other than that great video for beginners :] good job

I used to do the breastplate first also btw, so im not bashing, just informing.

  • Info from experiance: Pony Club C1/C2

  • I have been riding for 7 years. You pic out the hooves first THEN use the curt comb. and the saddle goes first because the horse is least likely to run away while the bridle is being put on. And the horse can't run away while being tied up. Your not experienced enough to make this video for beginners.

  • the saddle did go on first? And it does not matter if you pick the hooves out first or last, it simply depends on how you were taught.

  • @theslyhorse theres nothing wrong here as long as certain things do get done, order is of no importance, and i have also been riding for over 7 years.

  • @horselover8901 as long as you do it and do it right, does it matter how you do it?

  • @theslyhorse it does matter if the hooves are picked out first , the bridle should be in one piece and put on in one , your putting the saddle and the bridle on at the same time , !!! get experince and stop trying to be like expert village we don't need your pointless help.

  • @PepperPetxx I find this comment very funny. The bridle and saddle did not go on at the same time. What difference does it make when the hooves are picked out?

  • and even if the way my barn does it different from urs you gotta admit most of the things I mensioned are right so whos uneducated??

  • Actually not. Just look at your grammar. We'll talk when you can form a proper sentence.

  • Im not sorry but ive been riding for 6 years and where I go thats COMPLETELY wrong so plz keep uneducated vids TO UR SELF... and horses are trained by the left side.. everything is done by the left side unexperienced rider

  • almost 15.3

  • sorry if I sounded rude but it dont seem like she knows much about horses, maybe a beginner all exited... if thats the case then she is aweswome

  • your supposed to rest the hoof on your knee so you dont break your back and dont use the curry so far up the neckis she tacking upwestern or english? I dont use a breast pipe or whatever its called but then again that can't be a western saddle cuz theres no horn and you always buckle the girth from the left side first and the horse is able to run if it wants to when sheput the bridle on... good thing its a good horse. the nose band should fit 2 fingers and the other 4 fingers. she dont know much

  • You must not know much about horses because the girth is always tightened from the left side LAST because that is the side you mount on. The bridle was put on properly, please keep uneducated comments to yourself.

  • I thought it was cute how ur horse like licked its lips before you but the bit in, like preparing for it. =) cutie =) =)

  • thx!! im tryin to learn more about horses bcuz i would like to get one...niice video =]

  • your horse is very cute :) good information too.

  • good vid, people just need to turn up thier speakers and get the funk out of their ears. You do a good job. Horse also is very well behaved.

  • omfg tht was crap couldnt evan here wot u sed tht horse looked so uncomftable !!!

  • how does her horse look uncomfortable?! are they supposed to be jumping around in the cross ties and stuff?

and if you can't hear, turn up your speakers!

  • Ok, I will give some good critism. I have groomed, twice, in my whole entire life. I have read about 20 articles and watched double the amount of people do it themself and show me before I touch a horse. I noticed, you didn't do mane or tail, and your horse looked so uncomfortable, it didn't stand still often and you only showed from the near side of your horse... sorry I only go to the point where you picked one hoof.... I got bored and camera wasn't too good and I couldn't hear.

  • You know what I really DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK. The movie is almost 8 minutes. I couldn't include every teeny tiny little thing or it would be too long. Get over it. You have no room to talk considering you've groomed TWICE. HA!!!! Love to see a grooming video from you. Then I can leave stupid nit-picky comments all over it.

  • Your mean

  • Only because i've had to deal with countless stupid hater comments.

  • awesome. wow your horse is skinny

  • @zeebradaisy

her horse was the perfect weight... you must ride fat horses then

  • I'm hoping to start lessons in the spring, I'm really excited!

  • So helpful. Thanks so much. Found the audio annoying when the wind kept blowing. Would have been helpful to see where you pinch the tendon to get the horse to left its leg so you can pick the hoof. Thanks again!

  • @FogCityT all you have to do is run your hand down their leg and they autimatically pick it up or if they don't do that lean into them it always works 4 me!!!! :)

  • that was ment to be "how to do it in a oner" : /

  • finally 1 video that shows you ow to do it in a oner :D Great Video thnx

  • The person who talks on the video when you write it sounds lyk proper posh ''you are reffering to the billets'' lol no offence

  • you really shouldnt let your horse get away with snapping his tail at you.

  • well wat r u going to do? slap them? her horse did not do anything wrong

  • Comment removed

  • its positive and negative reinforcement, you dont need to hit an animal to make it understand. and if an animal is doing things like that it is a sign of lack of respect

  • @JMOWILL1

WTF? snapping his tail? do you know anything about horses? I mean honestly, he didn't do that to be mean - he did it cause there was something bothering him... wow

  • thnks this helps

  • *** At tacking

    LOL! NOT attacking XD

  • Wow, Thanks! I am pretty awful attacking up a horse! XD

  • I believe you are refering to the billets.

  • is that your horse?

  • yes

  • You did really well I learned a bit more than I know about breast plates since I dont use one. I do have one piece of advice, even though it doesn't really say you need advice but you might want to try using your finger to open your horses mouth instead of pressing the bit against his mouth. Its a bit easier. (: other than that great job!

  • thx soo much! you help me lot!! :)

  • when your using the hard and soft brush you should really use fast short flicking motions and maybe don't slam the saddle on his back. hey you said please rate and comment so i am. If you don't like it it's not my fault im voicing my opinion

  • sure sure.

  • For Some odd reason my saddle pad slides back on my pony( Yes when my saddle is on, and the cinch is as tight as it can go).... Any advise?? :-)

  • get a no slip pad. they go under your regular pad and keep it from moving. also make sure(if you have an english saddle) that the velcro is properly tightened around the billets and the girth is through the holders.

  • Thanks :-)

  • Is that Mane Event?

  • @ILoveWoodstocksQA

    tis is

  • great video and beautifull horse=) do u have to pikk out the hoves everytime you go for a ride? please message me thanks

  • rli good video taught me allot

  • Very nice video!

    I've learned a lot!

  • tht helped me slot with attaching the girth.Great job this helped alot:)

  • thank you the brideling helped

  • i think u have the same saddle as me!

  • nice job! that was awesome! :)

  • lol

  • Very nice video. Simple and easy to understand. I really enjoyed it!!

  • i cant hear you and i have my volume up all the way.

  • its probably just ur computer

  • Your deaf.

  • thanks for doing this ur really good, the parts of the bridal and girth confused me!

  • I think its a good little video, but I'm not experienced to say whether you pick their feet wrong etc. But all I can say is thanks! xx

  • you suck you don't pick there feet like that

  • I really don't care what you think. If you were so great you'd have movies up yourself.

  • because its my right not to put up a video and its true ask a professional you can screw up there hooves..but no your right it your horse do as you please.

  • It amazes me how ignorant some people like yourself our. In fact I actually think it is funny, so thank you for brightening my day with a little laugh!

  • my pleasure!!

  • xD don't you mean 'their' I saw what she did, it was fine. If the horse was uncomfortable in any way it would have shown discomfort, It didn't look so happy with that bit though, but nice job x3

  • he's a grouch with any bit. lol

  • Hi, I'm going to be taking horseback riding lessons starting in 2 days and I'm kind of nervous because you have to groom and tack up the horse that you ride and I'm afriad of certain things. Tacking the horse up the part when you have to put the bit on because I don't want to get bitten or when cleaning out the horses hoov i don't want to get kicked or do somethinfg wrong and hurt it.. plz helpp!

  • well, im sure your instructor will help you :)

  • thanx so much im always confused on the girth part but now i think i got it :]

  • You r really good at this! So now when i go with my cousin horse back riding i will now how to groom and tack up a horse!

  • i'v been looking everywhere for a video like this. like it.

  • You are awesome!! I've watched all of your videos, and I am a beginner rider. It is my passion. How long have you been riding for? I love horses! Thank you for creating these videos! I love to catch up on the latest scoop with you and Sly! Sly is sooo cute! I love him!!!! :-) P.S: WRITE TO ME!!!!

  • u need to do the saddle then the briddle and they dont get rain rot from that duh!

  • I like this video because it helps and it doesent matter if you do first the saddle and then the briddle or the other way around

  • hiya thank you very much for putting this video on here as i am starting riding soon and wanted to no how to tack up a horse x

    thanks again!

    sophie123234 xxx

  • 9sammy5....hello? that's a breast collar not a bridle!!!!! yeesh

  • I did put the saddle on first dingbat!

  • Hello they use the nose bamd so there mouth wount open ding bat!

  • ok, you can do it either way theres no problem with it the horses i ride and take care of its fine know matter what you do the horses wont give a crap!

  • I already know all this things. i watch this video because i like horses

  • dothe saddle usaly have the sturup attached?

  • I have a question. How old are you? Bc you are pretty tall to reach the big horses head!

  • u have a really pretty horse! i love its face markings=)

  • thanks it helped

    xx

  • Someone in my riding lessons used their bare hands to pick out the hooves. It was nasty! I was like "Omg, thats poo thats poo!"

  • hi, the hoof picking thing you can use ur left or right hand:) and also you should put the halter around the horses neck when putting the bridle on, its much easier. great how do videom though

  • Comment removed

  • in my friend's horse's feild there is a large foal. a girl i kno says its hers, but shes told my mom its not. the foal is very skinny, has a semi deep gash in its neck, and its left leg seems to be damaged. he wont put any weight on it, and its swollen towars the top, but he can use it to scratch behind his ears, although i think it was painful, as he soon swopped legs to do so. as i know the girl who is around 9 doesnt know much about horses, and only has a head collar, what i can do to help? x

  • Contact the RSPCA/SPCA?

  • He gone now, he went to the farrier and never came back. they owed the livery yard owner money, i think thats y they went with out tellin them they were swopping yards, ty anyways x

  • Thanks! :)

  • umm your not suposed to curry there legs it can hurt there tendons

  • Thank you :)

Also, i wanted your advice on mounting,,

im extremely short. sucks i know

so how can you mount, when your short, and the horse is around 15hh??

    x

  • i ride western and english but you could do this

you can get a steping stoll or a chair or a bucket but a stepping stoll it would be the best

put you left foot in the stur up and sping over

i hope this well help you dont be afraid to ask more questions

  • thank you

    x

  • If you can, have somebody lift up the leg your swinging over. Or get a mounting block. To dismount, you have to get used to jumping.

  • what i would do is get a bucket or buy a step-stool thing and step up from that. i know how u feel. i have a 16hh and im about 5 ft.lol

  • how do you know when the girth's tight enough?

  • When you can barely fit your hand under it comfortably.

  • you should always flick the brush when you brush because otherwise the grease is just moved about the coat and not got off especially as you didnt use a metal currycomb. when you pick out the feet you always touch the neck and go down so they know your there :)

  • ummmm... good job but try not to slam the saddle on ur horses back and guide the bit in to the mouth with ur hand O.K just some tips but ummm... good job!

  • omg you guys give her a break its her horse she can tack it up and groom it how she wants you do to your horse what you want so let her do what se wants and your doing a good job girl..

  • you should never go all the way down with a comby comb

  • You Know what yeah this girl made a couple off mistakes, but give her a break for god's sake if you can do it so good make your own video and show us,anyway i thought you did brilliant for your age :]

  • boots and polos should be done b4 saddleing but most definately before brideling!!!

  • also using the hard brush youre supposed to do it in a flicking type motion

  • hoof picking should actually come first but whatevs :)

  • tose are really good stables i wish i had stables like that

  • thanks this was really helpful to me

  • Make sure when you use the hard brush you make small strokes and the soft brush can be used on the legs

  • Your horse Is so beautiful!!

  • your horse is so pretty!

  • good job doing the steps!!!

  • that was so helpful thank you so much!

  • Awesome video!

It was really helpful, I have been riding for a little but over a year now, and yes I know how to do all this but I got clarifications on how tight to put something or how to make sure your saddle and saddle pad is on right. So yeah, really helpful, thanks for posting this,

Oh, and just ignore everyone else, you don't need me telling you that though, your doing a good job with out me, lol

    Thanks again.

  • srry but i think everyone is being really rude. this video is really helpful. she may not have everything on here that you learned or whatever but she still did a really good job

    ;)

  • Comment removed

  • wow horrible video because u didnt use the right terms you didnt say that some horses dont need a breast plate

  • I obviously don't care. (:
