  • These kids are wonderful!!

  • this scene is so racist

  • Author! Author! Great!!

  • I'm in King and I right now... I'm Eliza in this scene, and a bunch of other random parts!

  • Simon is really good! Overall, not bad for a high school show :)

  • Good job.

  • I think this production is brillant. A great rendition of the movie...I really hope my school does this this year!

  • This isn't bad but the coreography is not so good. When i did this play, The coregrapher made up all new movies. that makes it even better because we have our own little flair. and the costumes are kinda second rate too.

  • This cHoreography is from the original broadway production. It's the way play is supposed to be performed. It properly portrays the way it would've been performed at that time.

  • just found out today that I'm gonna be Little Topsy...I guess that's cool. haha. I really wanted to be the angel. but I'll live. =) at least I got a part right? also this is so true to the movie it's scary. very impressive. =)

  • i just learned this dance tonight with my company theatre. it's so hard!!! ours is a little more intricate since it's not a high school, but this is very well done. thanks for putting this up!

  • I've always loved this scene. Great performance.

  • Haha I dance like that all the time when I'm happy!! XD Awesome job guys!!

  • Many, Many thanks for posting this. Such a WONDERFUL production! Kudos, as well, to the Orchestra (and Conductor) in dealing with a difficult score. Treasure these memories...they will last a lifetime. I watched with 41 year old memories of playing this show at MY High School!

I must say, I am baffled at the seeming confusion about using Robbins original Choreography. Hammerstein's original Book and Lyrics and Rodgers' original Score were used, too! Isn't that the way it's supposed to be?

  • AHHH I GOT THE PART OF ELIZA IN THIS PLAY! (well not specifically the play that this video is of...)

  • I cannot believe your budget allowed such a faithful recreation of the ballet from the movie version. This is jaw dropping. However, your Eliza was perhaps the most listless of the dancers, even the Angel had better "Thai" movements. Their pas de deux on the ice is supposed to be sublime. Here the person playing Eliza butchers it.

  • who cares, it was a high school show. There not professionals. Just let em have fun. I mean .. 'the person playing Eliza butchers it'. Is it really necessary to point it out. Probably the same girl who put the video up and you have just thrashed her confidence.

  • tha Fuck!?!?!

  • great job!

  • psh.

    i love this.

im in the king and i.

    8th grade.

    lol, GEEEEEEOOOOORGE!

  • Looks like Jerome Robbins choreography to me.

  • I'm impressed that high schoolers attempted, and succeeded fairly well, in doing that choreography! It is NOT easy, and requires well trained dancers to pull it off. You guys must have rehearsed that thing for hours and hours to make it work. The orchestra's not half bad either, those parts are bears. Bravo.

  • Watching at this play, its bring back my memories doing the King and I on the Malaysia Independence Day 1993. Im playing as Princess Tuptim

  • im doing a this play right now and i have 2 diffrent part choices i can B king simon on laugrge of little eva not sure yet i dont know what 2 pick

  • small comment

it is King Simon of Legree

also, I would pick simon (i am sure you have already decided, what did you decide)

  • Lakewood, Ohio right??? because everyone laughed when they said O-hee-o even though that's how it was origninally pronounced but yeah! right?

  • Yes, Lakewood Ohio =)

  • our school has like 600 people and we are currently doing the king and I. our uncle tom's cabbin is so much better. our choreographer is amazing! also, I hear they have a really good tuba player.

  • Same with me but we cut most of the parts that are here and there are only 87 jr high kids and it sucks. our uncle toms cabin sucks. uncle tom is a girl. im a rainstorm

  • This sequence is very well done here; it's not easy to do! Perhaps yours is better, but try to remember that whoever posted this will read your responses. Nice that you think so highly of your choreographer and kudos to them if they came up with a creative interp to this dance. HOWEVER-this portrayal is nearly a carbon copy of original which was created by Jerome Robbins for the film-one of the most reveared & famous choreographers of all times! So please keep your comparisons in informed check.

  • wer doing the king & i, at cherry hill high school east, and its a play with all high schoolers, excpt 4 the royal children who auditioned. IM ONE OF THEM! im 11, one of de oldest, and we have 2 casts, red and white. the people who play the annas, katarina and alex, r absoluetly amazing! mi best friend, emily, is in the play 2, and so is her brother graham, who plays louis. the whole show is amazing, including the ballet. its exactly like the one in the movie. tongiht is a show, and good job^^^

  • that....was.....AWESOME!

  • Omg im doing The King & I in May With Peak Performaces!:) woo cant wait lol im playing Uncle Thomas in the ballet! Love our dance!heehee x

  • yeah i was uncle thomas..the first dude in the silver that comes out..it was like me and all them girls...:D

  • I thought so!!! XD Near the end the camera was on you the whole time!

Good job by the way! You portrayed personality very well on stage!

  • Im topsy in this musical in scotland at the kings theatre . Love it

  • VERY well done. choreography was very creative. did not think much of Tuptim, but was great overall.

  • I'm acting as the soldier and Lun Tha but the music seemed different to the ones from my school. but i'll still give it an A*

  • my high school butchered this part.

the dancers were good the choirs, well they weren't very good.

so good job really to whoever did this.

  • This is one of my fave parts of the play

  • I just saw this at my school, and this was my favorite scene. I love that little dance Simon does!

  • Did the school get permission from the Jerome Robbins estate to use the original choreography?

  • it might come when you buy the package.. My school is doing it and when i saw it they did the same dance.. So my guess is Yes.

  • my schoolmates did this brodway. i really loved this scene!! so beautiful!

  • I was in the King and I at my school. uncle toms cabin is my favorite scene. ASOME job!!

  • A+++++ Congratulations, and I live in Asia!

  • This is really good. The actors/dancers, chorus, and pit orchestra all sound great, especially for a high school production. Keep up the good work.

  • I was the lead flute in the orchestra! This was great -- I was never able to see the whole performance before. We really were amazing!

  • I agree with all of the above! That was so great! It was my most favorite scene ever in the whole movie! You have done The King and I proud!

  • wow this is amazing!

  • wow! very impressive :P

  • My most favoritest scene from the King and I. It looks just like the movie. Well done!!

  • I have been both in the King and I, and then been involved in the tech side of this play, several times during my time in community theatre. I must say this is an EXCELLENT performance, way above average High School level. Your school must have a wonderful Drama and Music Department. Congratulations on a job well done!
