I open my eyes, and I am listening. He says it is about timing about turning your sholder in. I say it is about a compliant uke who throws himself backward.
True.. But not all of the aikido practice is supposed to be a directly application in a fight. Most of it is just an exercise to cultivate different qualities and abilities. If you wanna see directly applicable aikido, look up Shioda Gozo. In most of his demo vids you'll see him simply striking uke's throat, something aikido's founder always emphasized as being crucially important in aikido ( irimi and atemi, i.e. directly entering into the opponent and using strikes, respectively)
@Foxdiei watch seichiro sensei . Any aikido truelly has to be inerfaring the least with the atacker and try to not interrupt his motions , if you do this it will be gracious.
if you interfare with your own power or intention too much it will cause the aikido to be too ungracoius
This is basic Daito ryu aiki. Inoue is only giving part of the story. It's about being rooted to the ground to receive and give back force. The spine, hara and legs are the path it takes to and from the ground. Shoulder position provides the direction for force. Watch uke to understand the arc of the force.
This is average skill. A high level practitioner would not gear up to "make" aiki. Inoue and Shioda "performed" aiki when it should have exuded from them without conscious preparation.
He's saying it's a timing technique and the the downward movement of the arms at the same time as caving the shoulders in is what makes the technique work.
xD Of course you don't, doing a two-handed push in an MMA fight is positively ridiculous. It's something idiots do when they want to start a fight.
Still, that doesn't mean it doesn't work. I could see this happening, people generally don't really expect to be pushed back. The situation it calls for is rather specific, but that's typical of Aikido; a technique for every situation.
Coming from a differing school of Aikido, I have my doubts about this one. Agreed if all things connect it will work...if not, i`d make sure my head was heading for his chin too ;)
This is a very simple technique that requires good timing, posture, and an opponent with locked elbows. If the opponent lets his elbows flex, the throw is completely neutralized. Taiji folks use a slight variation of this to demonstrate their "Qi" power alot. It's just timing, posture, and locked elbows. Nevertheless Inoue Sensei has my utmost respect - he's a superb martial artist.
This techniue was one of Shioda Kancho's specialities. I trained in this dojo (Yoshinkan honbu in Kami-Ochiai), and cheerful Inoue Kancho would be there almost every night.
This technique is for when some tough guy tries to give you a 'shove', and yes, this technique, timed right, with good kamae, will put the 'shover' on his butt.
I think I just got this. Every impact is when uke's feet are close together ... exactly when he has no leg behind to push with. That's the point of 'timing', if I understand right. Very clever. NOT the bullshit it looks like.
@JiggyHo it is very exadurated because uke shows all the power on purpose.. but it wont throw people in such way but it will have great defflection power of motion into the uke or atacker..
to make someone fall like this is impossible unless they still keep their structure and want to express what they experience through falling such as the uke does in aikido.
one must understand tat the uke is learned ot express the full effects of techniques its terefore so visible not an atacker.
Actually this is not BS. The Aikido Sensei was saying that there is a certain moment when it is possible to articulate the motions of your body and the Uke (recipient) such that his motion is absorbed and sent back to him because of an imbalance between his hands, midsection and feet. Its very possible.
Whoa slow down there egg head! (just kidding) You need bang on Timing for this and a good posture that's all, Thanks for the post a very good explanation even in Nihongo! Watashiwa Wakarimasu ne, Keko desu
actually years you don't need years of trainning to do this technique. my master showed m how to do it. it isn't really mystical.. the hands are locked. Its bascily like throwing a ball at a wall. the law of physics state what ever energy you exert is equally givn back to you.
I'm not sure if this works against a kick in the nuts

as a student of aikido , and i dont speak japanes , i think what sensei is saying is : the transference of energy is in the timing.

Thats where Aikido weirs off into bullshdio.

@Derukugi2 Not if you actually open your eyes. Of all aikido-moves that look strange, this one is fairly easy to understand.

This where Aikido weirs off into bullshido.
Derukugi2 10 months ago
@Derukugi2 WHEN do they connect? WHAT timing? Tip: Look at the feet.
He turns the shoulder inwards so stabilize the shoulders.
I did this once and I didn't know that I should use that break fall. So I fell "normally" and it blew my air out.
This works perfectly fine, as long as your uke isn't a weakling with no strength in his arms.
HomunculusProject 10 months ago
@HomunculusProject
Listen to the tape. He is talking about that. If you don´t speak Japanese, sorry I don´t have time to babysit you.
In any case, as I said, this is where Aikido meets Bullshido.
Derukugi2 10 months ago
@Derukugi2 So in summary: it works, it teaches timing, reading movement and posture of the attacker, stabilizing yourself, etc
And it's bullshit.
Care to back up actual arguments?
HomunculusProject 10 months ago
@HomunculusProject
I did not say "it works", and I am not arguing.
I simply referred to what the instructor in the video is saying. That does not mean I believe one iota of it.
Derukugi2 10 months ago
@Derukugi2 Then, instead of just claiming that it is bullshit with practically no knowledge or experience at all:
Why not try it out instead?
I wanna see you running into a stable guy and not falling over standing on one leg during contact.

Looks interesting but no one is going to push you (a girl may be) in street fighting.

Just checked out some Shioda Gozo videos. You're right. They have some very effective techniques but some demos are like doing it for the show.

People this isn't at all mysterious.
If you take any kind of grappling art you knoe this is possible.
Its just very unlikely someone will attack you in that way or with that enough force to fall down.
They could however. Its just unlikely. the technique does open the door to other techqniues.
