IRA Chief of Staff Sean Russell offered his services to Hitler in keeping with the Nazi philosophies of his own organisation. He had been in contact with the Nazis from 1936 and travelled to Berlin in 1940 to receive bomb making and sabotage training and was in talks with the German foreign ministry regarding further avenues of co-operation which would support the Nazi war effort against Britain. His aim would be to foment a rising in Northern Ireland using the Roman Catholic population.

Following the fall of France, Nazis planned "Operation Kathleen" in which Sinn Fein/IRA would help form a fifth column to persuade the ROI to invade the North, and facilitate the mass landing of German invasion troops at Larne and Londonderry, leading to an invasion of the UK. Russell was dispatched by U-boat to the ROI in operation Taube which failed due to Russell's death, an inglorious life commemorated by a statue in Fairview Park, Dublin. So there's at least one Nazi honoured in Dublin.

I agree about the need to move on, but as a Protestant Loyalist I find myself constantly perplexed and bemused at the frequency of republican, and roman catholic verbal attacks on quite obviously Loyalist sites. As you're no doubt aware, vast swathes of Protestants and Catholics live in complete harmony, although, I really wish more Catholics would take more than a cursory glance into the history of their religion, and hopefully, contrast the word of rome, with the word of God. It cuts both ways my friend but frankly i think whats needed is for people to just be christian pure and simple and get away from organised religion and all the division it brings, I personally gave up on religion(catholic) years ago but I do believe in the christian ethic .the republican sites get the same verbal attacks from loyalists its a vicious circle.
