she not just singing a song. you can tell she means every single word that comes out of her mouth and it's beautiful and very touching. love this performance!
They also were nominated and won Song of the Year its just The Dixie Chicks didnt write it, I believe only two of the members did but they took home the 3 most prestijous award that evening, Record of the Year Album of the Year and Song of the Year
Dear dixie chicks, please come back we miss you.... I never got a chance to see you guys live, and i'm hoping that this whole thing of not recording our touring together is temporary....

Courage & sacrifice are an awesome thing to witness.I wish to see more.
They just had the guts to say what most all of us are now thinking. How sad it is...we have gotten very good at sticking our heads in the sand & crying boo hoo to anyone who has the guts to speak their mind!! The more apparent tragedy here is how quickily ignorance & bigotry can lead to hatred & near violence. All this in the name of "patriotism". Blessed be....
I like music because it's more than just a song, i like a song with artist's message. If singers or artists are not allowed to express their true feeling, asking them to shut up and sing? then why the hell we waste time to listen to one-dimensional music? Dixie Chicks rock! I like the song, it's such a shame that their trueful remarks got out of proportion by the media.
I'm glad she made that comment, because without it,they never would've recorded this great song or album, which is their best by far. These women are extremely talented and actually put meaning and passion into their music. We don't see alot of that these days.Dixie Chicks are amazing!
@5m18r14n She's pacific, yet she got criticized for being pacifism? Maybe America shouldn't have peace. They should have a war inside their homeland just to get a taste of warfare atrocity. That felt good to me. lol.
the only people that were pissed bout what they said was them fucking ignorant hillbillies down south.....there all a bunch of imbread doorknob humping retards that dont know real education even if it came up and smacked them in the face! they all have there heads so far up george bushes ass they dont know what a real leader is! these ladies pretty much said what all the other americans were to scared to say!
To be honest, I really don't get how their comments were "unpatriotic" or "un-American." Really, they were just speaking what they believed, and it was their OPINION. Everyone deserves to have one, even if people take offense to it. Truly, it was those who protested against the Dixie Chicks so maliciously and publicly, because THAT is "un-American." Americans have certain unalienable rights, among them being freedom of speech. To intentionally go against their words so much was essentially...
denying them their freedom to say whatever they want. Additionally, I can guarantee they weren't the only ones that went againt America going to war. Sure, there was a majority that were for it, as the 9/11 events were horrific, mortifying, and tragic. I just can't comprehend how so much backlash can come from some insignificant comments. I have never been a DC fan, as I haven't really listened to their music before, so I'm not bias in that way. Hell, in the end, weren't they right? I DO...
know that, by the end of W's presidency, his approval #'s regarding the War on Terror were in the dumps. All DC did, including Moore and so many others, was predict the outcome way ahead of time. #'s today present that the # of dead soldiers (God Bless them all) has passed the # dead on 9/11. This war has gone on too long. Now, to talk about DC. I really enjoy this song (and, apparently, so did a lot of others; they won all 5 Grammys they were nominated for that night, despite all the talk...
and bad publicity and the lack of radio airplay on the country channels). Not only that, the song was recently included on Rolling Stone's list of the Top 100 Songs of the Decade at 77. This song has something to say, and isn't meaningless like the majority of songs out today. That means something to me that there are still artists out there that have a passion for music with a message. I'm sorry for the long message, but I had to speak my mind on the topic, and how ridiculous it is....
I hope that they keep on proving themselves to the haters out there, because these three ladies here, all of which are pretty attractive and classy (a mixture not evident in today's society), are geniuses in their own right. Anyway, "Not Ready To Make Nice" is a fantastic song, and DC are just as great as a band. Anyone who's interested with them should also check out their rendition of "Landslide"; pretty awesome too. Keep going, DC, you are an inspiration to people for sure. 10/10!
@tsquared226 The Grammy giveaway was orchestrated by Weinstein. When Natalie Maines mouthed off, GW had one of the highest approval ratings of any President for which those numbers were calculated. The success or failure of either was connected ONLY by the DC's for sensationalism. Nat had her say into a mic (as disingenuous as it was). Their ex-fans exercised their freedom of speech too, and they slammed their wallets shut. The DC's have no inalienable right to popularity. Epic Failure
@tsquared226 The DC's were NEVER denied their freedom to say whatever they wanted. Not once. Plenty of people spoke out against GW. The difference in the DC's case, is that they didn't mean it. Who said they didn't mean it? Natalie Maines. She even called it a JOKE in her OWN movie. Desparately trying to be forgiven for making a pandering, offhand comment to gain popularity in Europe with the anti-war crowd.... on a subject millions were having to take deadly serious. Epic Fail.
@tsquared226 First, she didn't HAVE an opinion that you credit her with until it would serve her. For almost a year, she denied her London comment was a true sentiment. Only when it would serve her (and she realized her ex-fans weren't coming back) did she decide she meant it. Natalie Maines was NOT expressing a true sentiment. She was pandering to the anti-war sentiment in Europe, that's all.
This video remains a great inspiration to me and there isn't anything better than strong, smart & independent Texas women. Thanks DC's...you make me proud to be from Texas.
marty and emily just put out an album as a duet. (the courtyard hounds) the three aren't broken up though. natalie just wasn't ready to start recording again.

Do you people read what you write? You sound so stupid, she deserve it, its her fault. No it is not. Why in the hell is people getting mad cause she said she don't support the war and that she is ashamed that Bush from Texas. She's not the first person to say that. They just picked on her cause she is famous. This tells you what the world care about they rather talk about what was said for 3 years than hungry children in Africa, or the homeless, or global warming. Get over yourselves.
couldnt agree more! She really was one of the first celebrities to speak out, no one had really done so at the time or had done it SOOOOO publically....but i say good for her, love it how most people agree with her NOW, especally since everyone is aware of just how right she was. This is America people, the first ammendment! Its what we are all about.!

The Dixie Chicks' vitriolic bile spewing public temper tantrum was more reactionary than the self propagandized dissent they pretend to reject. Their three year propaganda campaign, including the SUAS movie, was a penultimate model of disingenuous behaviour. They spent years simultaneously claiming victim status while publicly bashing people and organizations that, in some cases, had expressed little or no opinion of them whatsoever ie Red Cross &, the View. They are gone and for good reason.
The Dixie Chicks had a great night at the Grammy's, proving their amazing talent. Their own genre, Country, shunned them and their music, but they won big at the Grammy's. Good for them.
Hey facts are facts, I'm from Ireland, independent from the argument but totally beside it. Ireland is very closely relatled to US politics and totaly decomatric. Lets face it, republicans are after one thing and these very brave girls are standing up against the ignorance.
I dont understand why everyone is all "blah blah blah she had to apoligize" she's a singer, she's in the light, she made a comment about the president when you are in the spotlight FACT of it is you cant be saying that shit. It is truly unfair but you can't. Every singer knows that when they start in the business. I dont feel sorry for her one bit. She said it, It was great, whatever, but now she has prices to pay. Big deal. Her fault.
Therealmensa perhaps you think you've reached the highest level of the Jungian tree of self-actualization which makes you God in your own mind but we're cracking up at the fact that you're just a bitter hag who's all dried up and spends lonely days arguing w/ people you don't know.
Court? What's the accusation? Showing negative attitude towards President Dumbass is nothing but human nature. And PWNing retarded Republicunts is certainly not a crime.
The Dixie Chicks will be forever known as 3 women who instead of keeping their mouths shut spoke up for what they believed in something that is becoming less and less popular. They sacrificed a lot of have what they wanted to say heard, but gained much in my opinion. A great person is not determined by how many concert tickets they sell, a great person is determined by the impact they make. The Dixie Chicks made an impact on this world, regardless of whether people think its right or wrong Bravo

The Dixie Chicks will be forever known as 3 women who made a pandering comment in 2003 on a subject that millions were having to take deadly serious. They played the controversy for all it was worth, and that flash is over. They sacrificed nothing except the trust they had before they decided to sensationalize for profit. Suddenly, ticket sales mean nothing when they were EXACTLY what every Dixie Chicks supporter will go to when defending their alleged success. The impact they had? LOL. Gone.

The Dixie Chicks will be forever known for killing their career with their mouths. They sacrificed a long term career for short term sensationalist driven sales. And the pathetic DC fanatics now will tell you it isn't ticket sales but the impact someone makes. Well, the DC"s don't have to worry about those pesky ticket sales now. And the impact they had was to mobilize millions who saw disingenuous, bashing, belittling behaviour and "rewarded" it in spades. CHECKMATE, Natalie!
ur a tit!!im not a big fan of the dixie chicks bt tis sng is brillient tey had every right to release this song defening themselves against ter critics and the misinformed morans that happen to be (sadly) the majority of the puplic!!we need singers lik the dixie chicks & pink to write songs that mean something not jst mindless generic pop al the time!!& the only reason ppl get al upset and angry about it is because deep down they know that they are in denial and everything the DCS wrote is true!
well DUMBASS actually i am writing text so yes i guess i am texting!!well im not going to argue with you about it! because clearly your a narrow minded repuplician who cant see past there own small minded agenda!!and believe that other people should just sit back and listen to them and just except it!!so heres a big FUCK YOU from me CLOWN!!!

I'm not republican, nor am I narrow minded. You're clearly a dumbass. Only a butt nub would type on a full sized keyboard as if it was too difficult to use proper words. You're the dumbdown who will always be washing my car, or changing the oil, you know, the paper hat ass. The guy saving up for the new cell phone. So here' a "great job, glad I don't have to worry about the food service or sanitation industries running out of butt nubs " to you. Dickhead.
well if you must know the reason i used short text was because my character count was over the limit!!!and if you must know im not working in the food service or washing cars!!oh and im sorry to break it to you but yes you are narrow minded and only a dunmbass would slag off the dixie chicks for writing this song and try and say its a publicity stunt!!!and obviously your some kind of conceded prat!!.....The Real Mensa!!!haha, yeah right!!!
The Dixie Chicks don't have to apologize for a thing! They exercised their rights to free speech, and millions of others did too. Just because it meant Natalie can't be famous anymore is no big deal. She had her say, now she gets to live with the consequences. No one gets that.
I think that the Dixie Chicks should apologize for their remarks about President Bush. Right after Bush and Cheney apologize to America and the world for distorting the intelligence and bald face lying to drag us into an unjust war. I love my country, but am deeply troubled that we launched a war of aggression in Iraq. Thank god we have people like the Dixie Chicks to sing out as our collective conscience.
Actually, Natalie Maines apologized to George Bush directly in a prepared statement a few days after her comment in 2003. As far as the Dixie Chicks go, they might make you feel better, but are in no position to change anything. They weren't invited to the inaugural celebrations as entertainers or as individuals. The only thing on their plate for the future is a court appearance for defamation. A lawsuit Natalie Maines has guaranteed they will lose because of her mouth.
Actually, the real point is that the Dixie Chicks were right. The point may have been made ineligantly, but we, the American people were sucked into a war of agression by an amoral administration. Those of us who knew better and those who should have known better ought not criticize those who had the guts to speak out. The critics have a foul odor - that of right wing political correctness.

How grammys measure talent, popularity and sales:
Garth Brooks' career took off at the same time as the Dixie Chicks. In 2006, the Dixie Chicks drew 13,500 people to one concert in LA. In 2007, Garth Brooks sold 85,000 tickets in 59 minutes, doing five charity concerts in two days at the same place. He is the highest selling solo singer of all time and sits only behind the Beatles in total sales, with Elvis coming in third. And he is STILL selling albums. How many grammys does he have?
mensa...no...that's Natalie in the middle...you know the one who gets fan comments daily from her fans. Natalie and her true fans don't believe in being someone's "biatch"....we respect those we chose to marry or have relationships with. Go back to your clubbing women pal...Natalies way out of your league.
Mensa...you're so groovy and with it. You know it's easy to see she gets fan comments daily....you're on the video sites that have amny positive comments about her every single day. You and your other personalities are among the few who speak badly of her. Admit it pal....you hate Natalie and your dream of persuading others to think like you has failed miserably. Keep on trying though...your desperation is hilarious.

Keep sleeping with that "home" Cd under your pillow. They are gone, and for good reason. Only you and a few others keep returning after seeing my posts. They get it. To conitnue to hold to an opinion in the face of facts refuting it is called a delusion. You're deluded, Wittless.
Groovy? With it? You do realize that those terms were last used in the Brady Bunch parody movie, don't you? Geri Reischel who played Jan is 50 years old now. You really are stuck in the past, aren't you!
It doesn't matter if we agree or disagree with her comment. Which wasn't even that bad. She said that she was ashamed the president was from her home state, and that she didn't agree with the war. What matters is that it was so over blown. Seriously, people over reacted majorly. FREEDOM OF SPEECH. I personally laughed when i heard the comment..

Let's not forget that these are the Dixie Chicks who've scorned their own musical constituency. Let's not forget that there are places in the world where heroism is more than brash disrespect for other people -- where it is bravery combined with nobility, honesty, and humility.
Traits Natalie Maines never possessed, nor likely ever will.
Like the puppy who barks only for attention, she was swatted with the newspaper, and instead of learning from it, became rabid, and bit her own head off.
And few cared about her insult as did when where, and why she did it. She wasn't right anymore than if you said soon it will rain. Somewhere, eventually, it will rain. I think you put one too many 3's in your profile age.
Dude, I just love that she said what she said, and people freaked out. She won, she is standing by it... I'm more suprised that they got so heated up, I mean Natalie Mains BWAAAHH wtf is she goin to do? Right!
Natalie wins, she nor any one of the other chicks. will ever have to work another day of their lives unless they want to. Probably one of the only talented country band, amazing music. The movie about the whole thing is amazing!
We can all be thankful they don't have to work again, but only because they have mates making money. Natalie can't afford another microphone fiasco. They'll all be poorer after the lawsuit, if for no other reason than the legal costs. The help from other artists is gone. Their fan base has moved on. Their last song got ho-hum reviews. They aren't a "band". Their movie was full of lies, they made little off their last tour and their last album, and I can prove everything I've said.
Even though the dissent against Natalie Maines was not necessarily about her Bush comment, the tie between her and George Bush has become her ultimate undoing. By irrevocably being connected with GW Bush, his departure leaves them without an agenda which motivated their last fan base. Just as the many who wished Bush was put up on charges (me included) will move on, so too will the liberal agenda seekers. they will find another cause celebre'. Natalie Maines' 15 minutes are up.
"The entire country may disagree with me, but I dont understand the necessity for patriotism. Why do you have to be a patriot? About what? This land is our land? Why?"
per Natalie Maines.Three months earlier, at the Grammys, Joan Baez used these very words to introduce and defend Natalie. Seems she forgot to correct Joan Baez about "this land is your land" on Grammy night. ROFL.
H2H...recycled that comment how many times now...15-20? Nobody cared/listened previously...my guess is they won't now either. You need to change your name to Desperation2Desperation....all the other names didn't work for you either did they?
I understand your anger. You've been marginalized for being ignorant all your life. Lord knows it must have been hard on you, hearing your parents repeatedly apologize, saying you have a learning disability. In the name of sane, intelligent, and attractive people everywhere, I want to apologize for what must have been a terrible childhood for you. Just isten to you. How else could you become the flatulant prick you are today without incessant ridicule during your formative years. So Sad
Funny H2H.....you're completely wrong about my life...just like you're completely wrong about the Dixies. I'm not the one who sits month after month on videos of people I detest. Save the fake concern...we all know the real H2H.
Little known fact about Heart2Heart....he's desperately tried to get anyone to listen to him for months upon months under this name and months and months under his previous name galen. He closed that account down after he was exposed as a liar. He obviously had a connection with Natalie somewhere in time that did not go as he'd hoped...now he's stalking their videos...trying desperately to get someone to agree with him....and it's not going as he'd hoped either.
Factual example of disingenuous behaviour by the grammys:
Joan Baez, who announces the DC's here, was given a lifetime achievement award as incentive to announce the DC's. She was nominated six times over the last half century for the folk grammy, and never won. She stands out only because she's not dead yet.
She now plays venues like the Arroyo Grande, Ca. "Clarke Center". Its calendar includes Dana Elementary School's Wizard of Oz play.
Gee mensa....you can't figure out what a "lifetime achievement award" is? So you don't think being nominated six times is an indication of achievement? Still singing anywhere in her 6th decade of performing is admirable. Sounds to me like you're reaching desperate levels to get anyone to listen to your whiny comments.
Most people aren't burned out stoners like you, Wittlessumy. ROFL. Sounds to me like anyone who can still spark up is your hero. Put the helmet back on.

Let's not forget that there are places in the world where heroism is more than brash disrespect for other people -- where it is bravery combined with nobility, honesty, and humility. Traits Natalie Maines has no clue of. Her pandering comment in 2003 was followed with a propaganda campaign to paint herself as a victim. In fact, she bashed her way out of a career.
Christ almighty these girls have got balls! Fair play to 'em. Two fingers up to all the narrow minded, reactionary, middle american country music loving inbreds who bash on about "fighting for freedom" but can only tolerate people exercising freedom of speech on their terms.
Barry Bales, bass player and harmony singer for Alison Krauss has as many grammy awards as the Dixie Chicks. Most likely, you didn't know his name until you read this post. Oh, and Alison has won 31. Perspective check.
The DC's couldn't win an award after 2003 that the fans vote on (CMAs for example), but awards voted on solely by individuals dependent on entertainers for income (such as the Grammys) we're tossed their way by the handful. This in a year when they sold fewer albums than their fellow nominees in every case.
that's a good point because music that is the most popular and sells the most records is always better than all other music.like lil wayne sold more record than Paul McCartney so lil wayne is better. i think that it also points the fact people like to be complemented but when someone points out possible flaws in their thinking they may take it the wrong way. music that forces people to think a opposed to killing earl not what people want to hear.

tsquared226 1 year ago 4
@tsquared226 The Grammy giveaway was orchestrated by Weinstein. When Natalie Maines mouthed off, GW had one of the highest approval ratings of any President for which those numbers were calculated. The success or failure of either was connected ONLY by the DC's for sensationalism. Nat had her say into a mic (as disingenuous as it was). Their ex-fans exercised their freedom of speech too, and they slammed their wallets shut. The DC's have no inalienable right to popularity. Epic Failure
Therealmensa 1 year ago
@tsquared226 The DC's were NEVER denied their freedom to say whatever they wanted. Not once. Plenty of people spoke out against GW. The difference in the DC's case, is that they didn't mean it. Who said they didn't mean it? Natalie Maines. She even called it a JOKE in her OWN movie. Desparately trying to be forgiven for making a pandering, offhand comment to gain popularity in Europe with the anti-war crowd.... on a subject millions were having to take deadly serious. Epic Fail.
Therealmensa 1 year ago
@tsquared226 First, she didn't HAVE an opinion that you credit her with until it would serve her. For almost a year, she denied her London comment was a true sentiment. Only when it would serve her (and she realized her ex-fans weren't coming back) did she decide she meant it. Natalie Maines was NOT expressing a true sentiment. She was pandering to the anti-war sentiment in Europe, that's all.

Why in the hell is people getting mad cause she said she don't support the war and that she is ashamed that Bush from Texas. She's not the first person to say that. They just picked on her cause she is famous.

It is truly unfair but you can't. Every singer knows that when they start in the business. I dont feel sorry for her one bit. She said it, It was great, whatever, but now she has prices to pay. Big deal. Her fault.

The Dixie Chicks don't have to apologize for a thing! They exercised their rights to free speech, and millions of others did too. Just because it meant Natalie can't be famous anymore is no big deal. She had her say, now she gets to live with the consequences. No one gets that.
Therealmensa 2 years ago 3
I think that the Dixie Chicks should apologize for their remarks about President Bush. Right after Bush and Cheney apologize to America and the world for distorting the intelligence and bald face lying to drag us into an unjust war. I love my country, but am deeply troubled that we launched a war of aggression in Iraq. Thank god we have people like the Dixie Chicks to sing out as our collective conscience.
jserra17 2 years ago
Actually, Natalie Maines apologized to George Bush directly in a prepared statement a few days after her comment in 2003. As far as the Dixie Chicks go, they might make you feel better, but are in no position to change anything. They weren't invited to the inaugural celebrations as entertainers or as individuals. The only thing on their plate for the future is a court appearance for defamation. A lawsuit Natalie Maines has guaranteed they will lose because of her mouth.
Therealmensa 2 years ago

Let's not forget that these are the Dixie Chicks who've scorned their own musical constituency. Let's not forget that there are places in the world where heroism is more than brash disrespect for other people -- where it is bravery combined with nobility, honesty, and humility.
Traits Natalie Maines never possessed, nor likely ever will.
Like the puppy who barks only for attention, she was swatted with the newspaper, and instead of learning from it, became rabid, and bit her own head off.

doomed7t1 2 years ago
doomed:
We can all be thankful they don't have to work again, but only because they have mates making money. Natalie can't afford another microphone fiasco. They'll all be poorer after the lawsuit, if for no other reason than the legal costs. The help from other artists is gone. Their fan base has moved on. Their last song got ho-hum reviews. They aren't a "band". Their movie was full of lies, they made little off their last tour and their last album, and I can prove everything I've said.
MensaMeme 2 years ago
Even though the dissent against Natalie Maines was not necessarily about her Bush comment, the tie between her and George Bush has become her ultimate undoing. By irrevocably being connected with GW Bush, his departure leaves them without an agenda which motivated their last fan base. Just as the many who wished Bush was put up on charges (me included) will move on, so too will the liberal agenda seekers. they will find another cause celebre'. Natalie Maines' 15 minutes are up.

MensaMeme 2 years ago

Little known fact about Grammy awards:
Barry Bales, bass player and harmony singer for Alison Krauss has as many grammy awards as the Dixie Chicks. Most likely, you didn't know his name until you read this post. Oh, and Alison has won 31. Perspective check.

The DC's couldn't win an award after 2003 that the fans vote on (CMAs for example), but awards voted on solely by individuals dependent on entertainers for income (such as the Grammys) we're tossed their way by the handful. This in a year when they sold fewer albums than their fellow nominees in every case.
Heart2Heart59 2 years ago
that's a good point because music that is the most popular and sells the most records is always better than all other music.like lil wayne sold more record than Paul McCartney so lil wayne is better. i think that it also points the fact people like to be complemented but when someone points out possible flaws in their thinking they may take it the wrong way. music that forces people to think a opposed to killing earl not what people want to hear.
