Nirvana is crap, they had poor musicianship, and poor vocals, poor lyrics, Kurt Cobain was in my mind one of the worst songwriters and singers ever. Now Alice in Chains has nothing but good musicianship, vocals, and lyrics, same as Soundgarden. I personally hate Pearl Jam because Eddie Veederd is a fucking Liberal nutjob. Incase if you were wondering I grew up on Heavy Metal, Metallica was the first band I ever got a CD of, and when I was 16 I took guitar lessons for three years.

sixfoot just make his opinion, he isn't right ofcourse but i understand him in musical fact, Cantrels solos even riffs are much more difficult much better than kurts, drummers are very good in both bands, bass player both have nice baselines so musically AIC slightly beat Nirvana, they are more componised,and I think they both are heavenly depressing maybe AIC more, but I don't matter this and I think anybody should matter..

Despite the fact both bands were pals, you can't generalize to the degree of saying ALL of Nirvana's songs are for ONLY depressing people, particularly when par their first album most of AIC songs are really dark and quite melancholic.

AIC and Nirvana are both grunge but AIC are heavier and Nirvana more experimental.

Both have acoustic influence.

They call it Grunge as all these bands in that genre wrote upon the same or very similar subject matter: anger,frustration,depression,d­rug use,apathy and angst. I agree AIC and Soundgarden among other bands at that time had a lot more talent than Nirvana but to say that Nirvana  just made depressing songs for depressed people so did AIC

@MrTufflong hey ill give inez some credit, he is a very good bassist and i love a lot of his contributions to aic, but i dont really see what you mean by saying that w/o him the last 2 albums couldnt have happened. the most memorable bass riffs in aic are from starr. especially the absolutely flawless and epic bass to the song Would. i just hate inez stage presence. it seems so unnatural and "professional" in a sense to me. starr always seemed to play based on his mood, like real rockers imo do.

Likewise, I don't think Facelift or Dirt could have been what it is without Mike. It's all a matter of perception and opinion, but take it as you will.

@MrTufflong the baselines are great, idk who wrote them all though. its not like they all only know how to play 1 instrument. my main reason for liking starr better is cause of his stage presence during the live shows. inez is exactly the same every time i see him, its too choreographed for my liking. starr had the angst and frustration that fit better with that era to me. the band was more tight knit during those years too. layne changed when jerry kicked starr out. they barely lasted 1 year
