  • weird rubatos. gould and brahms are not for me. listen to radu lupu for this one!

  • By far the best recording I've heard of this piece. Thanks for uploading. I'm trying to learn this piece right now and lets say I'm little over 10 years old and its pretty hard....

  • This is very well played but it is lacking something. Passion?

  • @spiderwomanatl The main theme of this piece is meant to be played quickly. Also, the scales are meant to be fast. Cut timed 32nd notes are pretty dang fast... Also, I thought he played the slower sections excellently.

  • @spiderwomanatl I think he played it very well. Not only is the first section supposed to be played quickly, it has the perfect amount of passion. I agree with @banifacio , the slower sections were great.

  • He takes 0:30 way too fast.

    Nonetheless, I love this rhapsody.

  • Brahms is Santa Clause. I swear! :D

Except Santa can never make good music like this......

  • this is like rockem sokem robotts nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I quoted this movie in the topic of this tune in my brog.

    Thank you for Upload it.

  • The technique is absolutely brilliant. However, I could make a strong case that his interpretation is rather weak, turning what Brahms wrote as an intricate intertwining of rhythmic ideas into what sound like a rustic jig - by all means, I respect Glenn Gould, but he sacrificed musicality for virtuosity here. If you think I'm being overcritical, just write me a message, and I will upload a video explaining my interpretation.

  • @blendingbone I agree with you completely. Some of the scales are ridiculously fast. I think he plays it way to dry.

  • mah... fredda, mica sto granché...

  • I think that Pogorelich's performance is the best. It has such a contrast between the different segments, and very huge palette of colors...

But this is great (of course it ism it's Gould!), and full of artistic liberty... For my taste, the tone is too rough.

  • The only recording I have heard of this piece that is acceptable is Katchen's. It seems like no one can play this piece, however, Gould's is better than most of the recordings I have heard (Perahia, Lubimov, Rubinstein, Argerich, Backhaus, Grimaud, Pogerolich). This is the best out of the 7 (Pogerolich being a close 2nd).

  • Superb in clarity and crispness. Passionate without going overboard.

  • Absolutely always the best interpretation of this rapsody. Great intensity of sound, perfect continuum, right accents, appropriate f & p variations, right tempo, no frills, the 2 scales are powerful, and of course always a talented tecnique like only very few in the history. Great Gould, even if we hear him singing!

  • @homonovus6 ...Yes, even if we hear him singing!

  • I have seen this piece played live, and it was an experiance!

    Thanks for uploading this piece!
