I bought the FV N1 and though it is nice and clear and has decent mic sound I can no longer make "dark" vids since the light compensation is too damn good and cannot be removed. This cam is only good for one thing...calling someone on Skype...no versatility whatsoever and that sucks!

I have the quick cam vision pro but it doesn't look like HD quality. The video is not too great. You see a fanning (for lack of a better term) effect when you move your arms/hands....not smooth at all. I'm using a 42" Sony Bravia as my monitor - coming from the HDMI out of a mac mini. Also the audio has a tendency to clip when I raise my voice. I don't think this camera is good for the price. It should be $39.99.

Any thoughts on hos to make it perform better...?

Experience has taught me that the best "webcam" is actually a standard camcorder connected to the computer. Firewire works best, but it even works well using composite/s-video connected to a USB video capture adapter. Even my ancient 1996 Sony Handycam provides decent video in such a setup. Admittedly it does take up a lot more desk space and isn't convenient for use with laptops, but if you have the means to set up a camcorder/capture webcam, it works quite well.

i have found a cheap, but very good alternative to an expensive web cam, i wrote my own software that allows me to use a sony eyetoy , either the ps3, or ps2 version as a webcam, the ps2 eye toy has surprising quality for its age, almost HD, but it has no auto focus, if you get the ps3 version, normally it come with a free game, and it has auto focus, ill try to post a video showing the quality as soon as i can.

I want to know what the best AND CHEAPEST webcam is for a sharp image for a time-lapse from within a 0 to 4 foot range, because it is a time lapse, the Frames Per Second doesn't matter.

@guest2424 "Best and cheapest" do not go together. If you want the best, it's not going to be the cheapest. These are the best webcams for doing what you want. They are not the cheapest.

@drid6744 I think Chris may have misspoken there. The Logitech 9000 is not specifically certified for Skype's 4.2 1280 x 720 HD Video. Though I agree the 9000 does support the same HD resolution. It may just be a problem with Logitech not working with Skype to get it certified and working. But yeah, to say the Logitech 9000 does not do HD, is misleading.

I have this one " Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 with 2MP HD Video Sensor, Wide Angle Lens, Autofocus, Built-in Microphone, Automatic Light Correction" got it from Tigerdirect for $100 or so, best webcam I've ever Owned,-Frame rate: Up to 30 frames per second - Video capture: Up to 1600 x 1200 pixels (HD Video 1280 x 720 pixels) Still image capture: 8 million pixels (with software enhancement), so therefore, just make sure u buy the right logitech webcam 9000 and ur set :)

I got a Microsoft VX-2000 from Newegg, not the newest of models, but it works great, I've used an iMac with the iSight webcam, and it's comparable quality, except, at school, they have all the ceiling fluorescent lighting, of which I don't have, but as far as sharpness goes, etc. like having an iSight Camera, my webcam records in the same resolution as well.
