I only saw Jordan games because of my dad, but I have to admit Jordan is the greatest of all time. No one could touch him in his prime. Kobe comes really close, and he is the best active player right now. Kobe is my favorite player, but Jordan is the one and only greatest of all time. I do think however that Bird's and Johnson's legacies proved to be greater than Kobe's. But overall, only Kobe ever comes close to the level of play Jordan was at. Kobe's basketball IQ is just insane.

Kobe can do more on the court and sometimes he gets caught up in proving his point and range by taking some ill-advised longrange shots. But skill wise NOBODY touches KB24!!

People dont seem to understand is that kobe and jordan are mirror images of one another. If kobe was on the 96 bulls and jordan was on the 2000 lakers, the results would be the same. Now the reason why jordan gets more attention than any player alive, he made basketball into a global business. In my personal opinion if you look at the games of the great players in their prime, magic and kobe and hakeem are the most dominate and most overall greatest to play the sport at their prime.

How is Bird better? I understand he was probably a better shooter than Kobe, but overall? Hell no. Kobe's all-around skill level at his prime was not matched by ANYONE, including Jordan. When Kobe was virtually playing 1 vs 5 for a few years, the Lakers were still able to make it to the playoffs. He single handedly outscored an entire team after the end of the 3rd quarter. 81 points? Do I need to go there? And don't even bring up Wilt's 100. Kobe's 81 was far more impressive.

Offensively, Prime Kobe is better than Prime Jordan. I exaggerated a bit when I said that his all-around game was better because that's not true. MJ's all-around game in his prime was unmatched by Kobe, sadly. But Kobe Bryant is the greatest offensive player who ever lived, bar none. Some of the things he has done offensively are simply out of this world. He is also the greatest clutch player of all time. In crunch time, I'd rather have Kobe take the last shot than Jordan.

I think Magic isn't as skilled as Kobe but was better because of his ability to be great at every position (the finals game where he scored 42 points as a center without Kareem and played every position... as a rookie) and is the greatest passer ever. It was much more entertaining to watch Jordan and Magic than it was to watch Kobe.

Once Kobe retires, those same people and many others are going to feel those sympathies for Kobe but possibly even stronger because of the fact that there really isn't anyone in the game today that Kobe could pass the torch to who has that same persona and essence of greatness that Kobe and Jordan have had throughout their careers.

Edit: I meant to say Kobe IS the 6th best player ever...the way it came out seems like I say he's not. I think he's behind #5 Bird, #4 Magic, #3 Russell, #2 Kareem, and #1 Jordan. That's it...ahead of EVERYONE from this era, including the two best after him, Tim Duncan and Shaq. And at a place where LeBron will probably never get.

How is Bird better? I understand he was probably a better shooter than Kobe, but overall? Hell no. Kobe's all-around skill level at his prime was not matched by ANYONE, including Jordan. When Kobe was virtually playing 1 vs 5 for a few years, the Lakers were still able to make it to the playoffs. He single handedly outscored an entire team after the end of the 3rd quarter. 81 points? Do I need to go there? And don't even bring up Wilt's 100. Kobe's 81 was far more impressive.

Offensively, Prime Kobe is better than Prime Jordan. I exaggerated a bit when I said that his all-around game was better because that's not true. MJ's all-around game in his prime was unmatched by Kobe, sadly. But Kobe Bryant is the greatest offensive player who ever lived, bar none. Some of the things he has done offensively are simply out of this world. He is also the greatest clutch player of all time. In crunch time, I'd rather have Kobe take the last shot than Jordan.

@legoland626 I wouldnt put bird, kareem, or bill russell ahead of kobe either. not talent wise. i would put magic ahead of him if we are ONLY talking talent wise (man played all 5 positions...) but not numbers. jordan is the only one that i think i can safely put ahead of kobe when factoring both talent AND numbers. Offensively, jordan has a higher reg season scoring avg and playoff scoring avg, but kobe is the better shooter. defensively, jordan was longer and more physical. MJ > kobe

While I'd say Kobe is the best player in the NBA now, he is not the best ever. Michael Jordan is better overall. I think Magic isn't as skilled as Kobe but was better because of his ability to be great at every position (the finals game where he scored 42 points as a center without Kareem and played every position... as a rookie) and is the greatest passer ever. It was much more entertaining to watch Jordan and Magic than it was to watch Kobe.

@TwoPixelz I completely agree. Some people are reluctant to say that he's the greatest because deep down they still miss Jordan and what he did for the game. Once Kobe retires, those same people and many others are going to feel those sympathies for Kobe but possibly even stronger because of the fact that there really isn't anyone in the game today that Kobe could pass the torch to who has that same persona and essence of greatness that Kobe and Jordan have had throughout their careers.
