technically perfect! but unfortunately they are not the same as in the past! that´s not the great, political punkrock they made. it´s like modern rock with some old element of propagandhi-recognition.
i like propagandhi and the message and all, it's just. i hate the fact that the singer holds his notes when he sings, you know? Its like hes not shouting out his message his singing it...very different from the original propagandhi. But their still great, just the long notes are kinda annoying
what is going on with the sun symbol at the beginning? I'm aware of the importance of symbolism and this new propagandhi album seems slightly....paganistic in some ways.
Did you ever think that the uploader put that there? The hidden track is a joke and the art is by a Cree Indian artist. Propagandhi have not become pagans, so please stop posting comments on videos of their stuff as though you've figured out something amazing, and listen to yourself first.
absolutely the most underrated band in the history of punk rock. I first heard them in '96 and have never been disappointed by them. They evolve but never change the way they feel about the world, the grew up but not too much, the got louder but they don't over do it, they are the best plain and simple
though I understand the point, children listening to Don Cherry's banter could be affected, but Im sure 90% of hnic viewers understand hes a dilusional blowhard who is entertaining in the fact that he is soo rediculous.
Dear Ron MacLean. Dear Coachs Corner. Im writing in order for someone to explain to my niece the distinction between these mandatory pre-game group rites of submission and the rallies at Nuremburg. Specifically the function the ritual serves in conjunction with what everybody knows is in the end a kids game.
Im just appealing to your sense of fair play when I say shes puzzled by the incessant pressure for her to not defy the collective will, and yellow ribboned lapels, as the soldiers inexplicably rappel down from the arena rafters (which, if not so insane, would be grounds for screaming laughter).
Dear Ron MacLean, I wouldnt bother with these questions if I didnt sense some spiritual connection. We may not be the same but its not like were from different planets: we both love this game so much we can hardly fucking stand it. Alberta-born and prairie-raised. Seems like there aint a sheet of ice north of Fargo I aint played. From Penhold to the Gatineau, every fond memory of childhood that I know is somehow connected to the culture of this game.
I cant just let it go. But I guess it comes down to what kind of world you want to live in, and if diversity is disagreement, and disagreement is treason, well dont be surprised if we find ourselves reaping a strange and bitter fruit that sad old man beside you keeps feeding to young minds as virtue.
It takes a village to raise a child but just a flag to raze the children until theyre nothing more than ballast for fulfilling a madmans dream of a paradise where complexity is reduced to black and white. How do I protect her from this cult of death?
It's interesting to hear more personal lyrics from Chris. Then you have "Potemkin City Limits", which is incredible; I'd seen live versions but I read the lyrics and was floored. (I've donated $10 to each group and pre-ordered two copies; I just couldn't stop myself downloading in advance. APRIL 19!!)
best thing about this track is that for the most part only Canadians will fully understand the meanings behind the lyrics
the song is about Don Cherry, who is a former NHL coach of the Boston Bruins and current host of Coaches Corner (co-hosted by Ron Mclean). Recently he has been a leading advocate of the Canadian Military and their war in Afghanistan, and uses Coaches Corner (which plays during the 1st intermission of Saturday night NHL games on the CBC) as a venue to voice his opinions
Cherry is an advocate of the troops..its not like hes saying yeah you should all join the military..most of the time he just puts on like a 30 second segment at the end of some soldier who was KIA in memory.
Most of the time its depressing because the picture is usually some young kid like 20 or 21 but like its not like hes using coaches corner as a promotion tool for the Canadian Military like you make it sound
this is true and there is nothing wrong with paying tribute.
However if you combine his values concerning the military with his xenophobic rants about european hockey players and the fact that he has been named Honourary Commander of the Canadian Forces AND that games featured on HNIC have been known to feature military demonstrations...it adds up to make him a very controversial figure to say the least
What would you say if I told you I'm joining the Canadian Forces, in combat arms, with the intentions of being deployed to Afghanistan, and that I personally believe we're doing the right thing by being there?
Oh I am. I didn't decide this on a whim. I've been thinking long and hard about it for 3 years. Combat engineer. I know it's up there with infantry in terms of getting your ass kicked all throughout training, but it's what I want.
Haha, yeah, I've heard that putting bridges together is a LOT of fun, haha. If you get the chance, can you shoot me a note, give me some pointers for BMQ? I've been researching it a lot, but I'm sure there's always more I can find out to help prepare...
Propagandhi have put two tracks from the new album on their website available for download, in return for a donation to a charity. I've just given generously, as should all of you! =)
