Can't be bothered with the rest, but this software is by far the most intuitive easy and user friendly software out there. You can't use external plugins BUT the presets in record are incredible. Don not be put off by that. It is so quick and organised and tidy and simple that it instantly revolutionised my music making experience. I have fully converted from Logic and Protools. It is that good. Just helped me make better music sounding better quicker. Definitely worth it.
Anyone interested, there are loads of things where he says I don't know what this is. F5, 6 and 7 bring up the mixer, rack and sequencer respectively. I use it on a 13" mac and it's easy. He didn't mention there's a high pass filter next to the low one. Yes, the mixer is completely modelled on an ssl. They worked together to make it. Umm yh double clicking on anything on the sequencer will take you into edit mode. the button where he says maybe this is takes, is for comping so yes, he's rght.
@0tto777 - yeah sadly the demo ran out before i could get into it, (shame the demo wasnt limited in some other way than by a time limit) but it did seem to have some excellent stuff which other sequencer manufacturers could do well to look at - the mixer i thought was better than any mixer included with a sequencer for example.
Well, you hear people say that Pro Tools and Sampltiude sound a little better than other DAW's. Personally, I actually prefer the sound of samplitude over Cubase and stuff. Still, you can make a recording sound just as good as pro tools using FL Studio, so it really doesn't maker. But this propellerhead DAW looks stupid. You can do so much better with something cheap like Reaper.
If you go looking to hear a difference, you will find one, and if enough people say there is a difference, anybody will fall for it.
Preamps, mics, convertors, effects, whatever affects how something sounds. A computer using 0's and 1's to playback a song will not affect it, thus no difference in sound. If you can explain to me how 0's and 1's can sound different, I will be amazed.
Lol, well during playback it's going to be identical. But when you're recording, the sound might be different (when I say different, I mean the smallest difference you can imagine).
Don't forget that there are many factors to take into account such as programming language, the effectiveness of the programming, etc. I'm no computer pro and maybe you're right but I'm just saying.
Of course it will sound a bit different when being recorded. But not because of the DAW, it would be because of the A/D convertors in whatever interface, or PCI system you're using.
When it comes down to it, all programming comes back to 0's and 1's. It's the one fact that people who think DAWs sound different just ignore. Because there's no possible way they can be different.
People need to chill and stop knocking this for what it doesn't have. This is just a tool and for the price even when bundled with reason it comes at a reasonable price. It has a great interface and can do some amazing things. You may want to integrate with stuff you already have it's up to you. But it's not shit because even FL Studio is not shit but you can find many thing wrong with it. Same goes for Protools which I have and all other software. It's about the man behind the music.
I've just got Record and it's excellent. I've used just abut every DAW in the last 23 years and Record (at version 1.0) is very mature and sounds amazing.
Pro Tools will most likely stay at the top of the tree, but they really need to step things up a notch. The track limit in LE & M-Powered is so dated, as is the USB 1.1 connection used on most of the Mbox 2 range, limiting the top sample rate to 24 Bit 48K, not to mention that there's still no automatic delay compensation for plugins.
USB1.1 and the 48k limit is entirely deliberate (which is obviously pathetic, but it's done because they can).
As for Record "sounding amazing" - shut up. What, it's internal mix bus is so incredible it blows everything else away? All these DAWs sound exactly the same, unless you read the specs and start imagining differences.
It all looks horribly cluttered, which is the one thing I thought they'd have licked. Shame.
Malc180s - I will not "shut up". What right do you have to tell anyone to do that? If my opinion held no value, then I don't think I would have been in on the Record beta since the very beginning. I have been a tester for Propellerhead software since 2002 and also be a private beta tester for G-Force, Arturia, Ableton, Spectrasonics and many others.
The audio engine of each DAW is very different That is not down to anyone "imagining differences". For someone so verbal, I thought you would know.
I have every right - fuckwits of the world all assume they're born with valid opinions. Since your opinion is nonsense, you should just shut up. I on the other hand, am fucking amazing.
The programming of all DAWs are different? No shit! They all produce the same sound though, jesus fuck. As if the minuscule variations in the software are making the slightest bit of difference...
The problem with all these DAWs is that the programmers don't understand what they're doing.
@Malc180s you obviously dont know what ur talking about. Almost every DAW sounds different. From pro tools, to Reaper, Logic, and so on. and they all sound different depending on if youre using a Mac or PC, because they all have different sound engines... Just a quick FYI. Take it from somebody who helped design Reaper

Hate to bring bad news but as far as I know only Intel Macs are supported. I might be wrong, but I was part of the private beta test and I'm pretty sure it's Intel only, with no support for the older G5, G4 or G3 Macs.
It's true. You can't compare Logic with Reason/Record. And for those who say the refills are better than VSTi plug ins, well, I'd have to disagree with you. I own every main refill made by Propellerhead and though they have SOME great sounding instruments, they don't hold a candle to the software instruments by Native Instruments, or even sounds you get from hardware instruments by Roland and Korg and others. Reason is great. But it's limited. Record does look rather elegant though.
i see that u are not quite familiar with reason .. its almoust the same.. i've noticed you searched for that tool box:pencil etc.. and yes! with 3 monitors u will feel in heaven! its amazingly good constructed! i looove it!
you cant really compare them. with logic you can use plugins from other companies. in reason you can only use the stuff that comes with it and the stuff from reason 4.
IMO your possibilities are bigger in Logic since you can expand.
you clearly know nothing about propellerheads. you see reason has these thing called refills, they have thousands of them. and most of them sound as good or twice as good as AU/VSTi, plugins... or what ever you want to call them. and i have logic pro 8 and reason 4 so i know first hand.
ive also got reason 4 and logic pro. The Refills are "only" samples and patches for the existing rack devices within reason. it wont create entirely new devices. with a VSTi you get a completely new interface with new possibilities.
the same sound engineer's that make vst's make refills. and all the sounds in reason devices are not just samples, if you open up a reason device you'll see that you can load sounds in two different parts a sample or a patch. and in any of those devices in reason you can make just about any of the same sounds in a vst, im sorry but those 7 devices have infinite possibilities and im a sound buff i got like $15,000 worth of VSTi and Refills and i can't pick one over the other. but thats my opinion
the possibilities are truly endless however i think that some devices like the redrum need to be overworked and improved. redrum is so far behind battery. but you cant really complain since battery alone is 1/3 the price of reason ;)
ps: i wrote in my post that there were samples AND patches, not just samples.
I think it's unfair to compare Battery and Redrum. Battery can be better compared to the NN-XT The biggest weakness in Reason being loading individual sample sounds. You could create a combinator to emulate some other gear or software. But you are right there is need to look at some of these devices again.
If you already have Reason, then I'd get Record because they integrate seamlessly. Otherwise, I'd get Logic 9. As a stand alone program it offers more content out of the box (virtual instruments and effects) and you can expand it with third party plugins. It also comes pre installed with some audio and midi Apple Loops.

But someone explain to me how the audio engine itself sounds different? Can someone explain on 0's and 1's can sound different?
Ridiculous..

For the same price you can get Pro tools and an Mbox 2 - dedicated hardware and a far superior piece of software...
Obviously all DAWs are shite, Logic take a bow, but Pro Tools is the best of the bunch...

Reaper was designed by one person: Justin Frankel. He's a genius, not a dumbass, so obviously you didn't design Reaper.
Just be quiet unless you can scientifically explain to me how 0's and 1's can sound different.

@patrickisbusy because they control frequency levels so you can add an eq and slight distortion to sound. They do all sound different.
