  • I love this tune. It brings back a memory of when I was 18 and an old guy of 90 years old gave me a lesson on the practice chanter in his little cottage and it was this tune.I remember him showing me a box containing pipe reeds and he said to me "some of these reeds are twice as old as you, son".

  • is it possible to play guitar solos on the bagpipes because im always saying if i learn teh bagpipes im going to play six by all that remains

  • hey, you play it really well. could you please send me the sheet music if you got it? i would really like to learn it and i like your version most.

  • You should consider to take up circular breathing,- it is great for the practice chanter.

  • Do you play this tune in a band or solo?

  • You play that so well! Better than I can play that tune that's for sure. You should learn to circular breathe. It makes playing easier because you don't have to stop. It really helps me to stay more focused on the tune and I highly recommend it to anyone.

  • straight into my favs

  • very well played laddie

  • nice birls

  • Excellent!!, can you record slowly for the dummies like me plese?

  • Shepherds Are Great!!!

Looks just like the Gibson R101B im getting!

what do you think of the R101B?

  • I have had a look at Gibson R101B, all plastic chanters are pretty much the same, mine is african blackwood so you get a more mellow sound, the only tip I can give is use the reed manufacture that Gibson recommend because practice chanter reeds do vary from manufacture to manufacture and some do not suit some practice chanters

  • r u grade one????

  • I do not play for a grade 1 band but I play Grade 1 stuff like Highland Wedding, Donald Cameron etc working on the Cameronian Rant and Pretty Marion

  • u r really good, like one of my new pipe inspirations lol

  • P&D 4 LIFE! Sick stuff dude. Im a drummer and i love this tune, cant play it on the snare though :(, well yet. Anyways keep it up.

  • do you have the music for this?

  • I do, do you want me to email this to you or what would you like me to do?

  • I have the music aswell

  • Could you send me it thanks.

  • It is played very well,Well done keep up the good work

  • What make or brand of chanter are you playing? I really like the tone.

  • The practice Chanter is an RT Shepherds, just google the name, it also has a shepherds Practice Chanter Reed, I have had it for about 6 years.

  • love that tune. Played very well i must say

  • wow Heey Nice Song Im Dave 14 Years And Im Just Playing 7 months i think And They Need To Do 1 Test On me Then I Have My Bagpipe Is That Good For 7 Months? Greating Dave

  • Everyone learns at different rates, some of the best pipers in the world took longer on the practice chanter some took less time but what should happen is you should be comfortable playing all of the scales/tunes you know on the practice chanter before progressing to the pipes this will allow you to concentrate on the blowing/squeezing and control of the full bagpipes so you can work on getting a good solid tone. Start slow you have the rest of your life to play fast!!

  • This is just great great playing.... no doubt. This tune is just so beautyfull with great grace notes,- specially the birls... And you play it with joy and momentum..... I am going to Edinburgh for the gadthering,- see me in the Clan Donald Europe tent in Hollyrood park..... I am the Deputy Commissioner for Clan Donald North..... piper and all......

  • Very nice hey great on the birl

  • as ive said before your amazingg :) great finger work & tempo . how long you played for?

    x

  • I have been playing since I was 8, so 14 years as I am 22 now, I work as an ad hoc piping instructor in Edinburgh whilst I was at University.

  • Thank you for posting this. Your playing is amazing. This is the first time I have ever heard this tune. It was the tune the pipers played on the dock the day my mother and her family left the Hebrides in 1923. You've given me a look into the past. Thank you.

  • Thanks for posting this as it is hard to find some of the common tunes demonstrated on practice chanter. I have it in the Gordon Highlanders Collection Vol.1 and am going to start learning it now.

I would be interested if you would post on the practice chanter, three great tunes:

    John MacMillan of Barra

    Susan MacLeod

    Mrs MacPhersn of Inveran

  • 5*****
