  • SEE!?! Nuclear poison was a warning even back THEN!!!!

  • the movie barely covers anything, but i must it admit, even though it only covers the first book. it displayed it well

  • I know that this came first, but I think that the small furry creature from Alpha Centauri looks sort of like a Nugget from Breath of Fire V.

  • Is anyone watching this because they were reminded of the coast of Norway which Zlartty bartfast created by the shooting recently?

  • Time for a nice cup of tea.

  • Really good to see this on here. Thanks Lainiesl for putting it on here. I'm surprised to hear it is in stereo, as in i didn't think they would have made it in stereo. I remember watching this with my Dad when it was first aired on BBC when i was 8 years old, He loved it ,and he had the the book, god bless his soul. Once again thanks a million. :)

  • The TV version will always be superior to the film, IMO...Zaphod is PERFECT (who cares if the second head looks cheesy? At least he HAD TWO HEADS), Marvin's voice is the original one, Ford/Arthur are PERFECT...and the TV version contains so much MORE from the radio/books than the film did...plus, the film ending SUCKED.

  • @drstew42 That was because it was made after Douglas died, if he had been alive they probably would have made the entire series.

  • @drstew42 Do you know who wrote the screenplay for the movie?

  • There's one person who doesn't like this video... i think it's Marvin...

  • @YouNisseH like....don't talk to ME about like...

  • I LOVE THE COMPUTER, HES SO KIND

  • @feartheworm hence arthur's next line. "that would explain the accent"

  • Lol look at 1:20 it's deku link XD

  • 1:40 ok and this show is G???

  • dang...20yrs of taking in all things D Adams and today is the first time im getting to see the tv series...much love to the interwebs and all the people who put together hitchhiker stuff on youtube! hey is 6 episodes all they made?

  • watched the show in the '80's, and have raised my children with it

  • The story of the creation of the Earth in this story actually makes more sense than does scientology.

  • Is it wrong that I thought the film was pretty good? It's not exactly true to the books or programmes, but it was interesting, and I liked how Marvin looked there way better than in the show.

  • is that john cleese as magrathea's answering machine?

  • @ashoftomorrow I was asking myself the same question, is that John Cleese?? Quite a funny series. My first view of this series thanks to a dear friends sharing. I love reading your comments on this vid. : -)) Needed a smile. Peace and Love to ALL!!!

  • NorthWriter - thanks for the history lesson - i would imagine we already knew it

  • excellent

  • I absolutely hated the film and much prefer the radio show or book and then this adaptation. In the movie every character was systemically ruined and the best bits from the book taken out for newer, poorer gags.

I almost walked out of the theater when Slartibartfast was so poorly done. Bill Nighy is a good actor but was given terrible direction. One long downhill ride.

  • ha The guy that plays Arthur in this show plays the Magrathean message in the 2005 film. He was a good friend of Douglas and the role of Arthur was written for him.

  • the new film was heaps better than this, nothing beats rickmans voice as the robot..

  • @mynameisnotkenneth

I would say it was better as a standalone movie but this TV show is more true to the book.

  • ... this kind of reminds me of Star Trek :)

  • for some reason i don't think would allow to broadcast that first scene (the fat man and the girls) these days =/

  • lol "to boldly split infinitives that nobody split before" ROFL. Magrathea heheh. Slarbibartfast haha. sleeping like Rip Van Winkle til the galactic economy got better lol. Arthur: "Is there any tea on this spaceship?" - I'm with him!!! 3 coffee cups? and no tea? bad spaceship! BAAAD ship! ROFL. heehee.

  • you're about to land on a planet no one else believes in, this planet is only known of because of children's stories told around the galaxy, what do you ask?

    got any tea?

  • To paraphrase Marvin 'the movie was ghastly!'

  • :D 42 likes!

  • characters changed??

  • 2:14 LMAO!!!!

  • Love the montage of soothing images.:P

  • is it only me, or is some part of the sound missing or just extra quiet?

  • lol. gotta love it

  • lol. hitchhiker tv show

  • Seriously; what is with the paper coming out of "Eddie?" I mean... just saying, that's a _lot_ of paper...

  • It's just the writtten output of what he's saying.

  • (ALARMING ALARMS!!!!)

Eddie: Sorry guys...i didn't mean to do that.

  • 4: 49 is there any tea on this spaceship!! Great line!!

  • heaalo!

  • Yes it was quiet funny...:)

  • Hooooooooooooooo!

quite faithful to the book, but nice anyway!

The movie was very good, different from the book, than good anyway!

Did you see Douglas naked "going back to its origins"????

  • @dbuezas - Actually, the book is quite faithful to this. This TV series came before the books, and the radio series came before the TV series

  • @jamesbooty

Actually the radio series came first, then the books, then the TV series. The first book was published in 1979, and the TV series came two years later. So not to split hairs, but the TV series is quite faithful to the book.

  • I stand corrected, thank you!

  • @NorthWriter the TV series is faithful to the radio series, not the book.

In fact, it's lip-synced. They had a hell of a time getting it done. If I remember right, deadlines, or a labor dispute, or something.

Try listening to these episodes without actually watching them, and you'll be listening to the original radio series with a few extra sound effects.

  • @kozmon0t It's a different performance.

  • @flaggerify It is not possible to perform a book.

  • @kozmon0t It's not a book here - it's a script.

  • @flaggerify that's pretty much what I was saying. Radio series not book.

  • @kozmon0t Yeah, except this a different performance than the radio series. I have it. Ford and Trillian are played by a different actors for one thing.

  • @flaggerify This debate is about too trivial a subject to ruin it with facts.

  • @NorthWriter i thought the books came first.

Trillian's voice sounds familiar.... where have i heard it?

  • @NorthWriter I read the book after the TV series and quite a lot of it was word for word. It was extremely faithful, whoever suggested otherwise is pretty silly :P

  • No ! the film was shocking , this is amazing tv show , i loved it as a teen

  • @clemzzz the film was based on the last movie script written by douglas adams. plus, with the possible exeption of Zaphod, it was perfectly cast. I'm not sure about you but i quite liked it. althogh the "tie-in" novel is a shameless cash in.

  • @electricrevelations I'll have to disagree there. I didn't like the way the film handled the second head, but I love Sam Rockwell's Zaphod. If anything, I think Ford was badly cast... I always get a kick when the guy with the thick American accent says "What if I were to tell you that I'm not really from Guildford?"
