  • I bought a brand new 1980 RX7 and I was only 20 years old! I was working for an aerospace company at the time. I finance the car thru the company. I loved that car!! My car was stolen in 1986 with only 40,000 miles on it.

  • The funny thing - but also not so nice thing - about this car was driving it first thing in the morning. Engine would be cold. Had to use choke and let it run for a couple of minutes to warm up first. Neighbors may or may not be understanding of this higher rpm run. If you live in the country, no big deal, but I lived in the 'burbs and had to get to work early in the a.m. Also, car would backfire loudly when cold. Sounded cool. Peeved the neighbors though. A funny memory now. Fun car.

  • Re: Backfiring....Try changing the air control valve if you can find one. Right hand side of the carb. I've never had a backfire since I changed mine on the same car.

  • That's a tidy one!

  • yes the back fire is completely normal..theres not an rx7 that doest back fire

  • bolt pattern 4 100?

  • @JDML0v3r 4x110 i think

  • Back in the late 70's my aunt's best friend, who was also like a quasi-aunt to me, used to have a blue 1 of these cars. It's a 2 seat hatch back & loved riding in the back. I remember she took me to Goat Island @ the Niagara Falls. I forget the exact date/my age (like 6-8yo maybe), but she took a picture of me & I had on a Tee Shirt that read "May the Force be With You" (Star Wars). I used to LOVE riding in her car! Great memories.

  • @gjc82071 cant ride in the back if theirs no seats in the back?

  • That's like saying you can't ride in the back of a pickup truck (no seats) or even in the trunk of a car. Technically you can. (Mafia/mobsters efficiently utilized trunks, LOL) Although a Mazda has considerably less rear space than a truck, it does have some. The RX-7 was a hatch-back. You could put groceries, luggage & "stuff" in the back/quasi-trunk (or whatever the official name is). Even a 6 or 7yo little kid, which is what I was @ the time. I rode in the "back" numerous times. :-)

  • @gjc82071 Obviously at the time I posted the comment i must of been putting some serious thought to it because fucking a, any one can just lay back their if they can fit lmao..

  • did u selll it?

  • @shreditup263 Sorry for delay in response. Yes I sold it already. I really miss that car.

  • @shreditup263 Yes, I sold it. I had a lot of fun driving that car.

  • @markusrx7 ... I'm thinking of buying one here in Orange County, CA... What was the fuel economy on yours? I'm a college student and I'm thinking about paying about $2700 for a nice one with under 50,000 miles on it.. What do you think?

  • This was my first car when i was 16 in 1987. Mine was Yellow w/ tan interior. When you got in the cockpit and i saw the view with the old gauges and manual choke i welled up a little. I wish I had more $. Thanks for posting this. A wonderful flashback. I hope it finds a good home.

  • a i got one nd i lov my car

  • The very first year.

Had a 1984 GS, loved that car.

Guy bought it from me and nearly killed himself in it, lucky he lived.
