Julian, if you ever read this, I love you dearly, and this is a beautiful track, from a seminal album. There is no way to improve on the package.
But Geezer, the video! The Turtle shell? What the fuck? I realize and fully accept there was a modicum of acid in the making of this, I've got a similar pair of huge balls myself when it comes to tripping, so I totally get where you were coming from. But still, what the buggery fuck were you thinking? Fuck you You Magnificent Bastard!
'Fried' has always been in my top ten albums, but it's an album you can only ever get away with recording once. Had the next album been like this it would have tainted 'Fried' as it is not what you could call original. Never would get released now, so thank the 1980's!!!
Nah mate, it was filmed on his home turf at the time, just outside Tamworth. It is on the site of the old Pooley Colliery, now a nature reserve with the pools you see created by subsidence and woods of silver birch trees have sprung up all around and now most of the way up the big mound since this was filmed. You can also see the M42 being built and the train in the vid is running north on the west coast main line towards Tamworth. Looks quite different these days! :o)
this must be one of julians best albums .how can you not like fried it could have been over after sunspots!!!!. but the bloody assizes kicked in round two ...... and what a round 10/10 for fried..
What can u say about this song and the album? Listening to my big brothers Fried LP one summer and gazing at the back cover with the smoke rising from the horizon was a strange awakening for me. Remember seeing Julian on newsnight or culture show circa Peggy Suicide saying there is no bass on this track because they forgot to do bass for it. :)
@makeminea99 I am so glad they forgot bass because this has to be my favorite track ever. Sounds like a sunset over the sea. No aggression. Just thought and reflection: ) I got no place to go.
Fried is a masterpiece!and the Drude is a living legend!thanks so much to darthnutmeg for posting this I had no idea such a thing even existed, this is absolutely brilliant!
It must be a flashback of yours - his book covers his life and career until the end of the Teardrop Explodes. A lot of funny scenes inside the goldmine of Cope´s world.
from stop to start FRIED is a fantastic album. and will allways be one if not the best albums jules has done, and hes done some fantastic stuff.i cant wait till someone downloads suffocate on 12 inch the string arrangement is just tops, aint heard it for ages.
thats great i really like fried its my favourite julian album well one of my favourite albums full stop laughing boy and me singing are two eeriely beautiful songs

Laughing Boy has no bass! The gypsies had no homes! Don't let that scare you - let it *free* you.
keinsignal 1 year ago
He also said in an interview in about 86/7 that there was no bass on because it didn't need any!

Essence of Syd Barrett here I think...but JC is a quality writer and performer anyway.

@copeyattamsworth Oh, in Wales, oh, I see, thank you. I assumed that it was filmed in Wiltshire. Umm, but yeah, Wales, that's lovely.
