Detroit paved teh way for dance music, based on the sound sof the early Euro/UK pioneers like Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Human League, Fad Gadget, etc. Those artists all influenced the Detroit artists like Juan Atkins (aka Cybotron) released the first breakbeats in the very early 80's. Shortly after New Order latched onto their sound and made it mainstream with cuts like Confusion and Blue Monday. Then the UK rave scene was born.
