  • I remember driving a friend's miata in college. I'm 6'3 and my head peeked just above the top of the windshield but I remember having nothing but fun driving that car. I need to find one again. They are just a blast to drive.

  • Yes, I've owned two Miatas. One for the street, and one for just road-racing. Both Miatas were quite well built, and the engines and transmissions are bullet proof. Not many sports cars can handle as well as the little Mazda. My brother owns a Z06 Corabeth, and even his car is a few seconds slower than my 2nd generation Miata. Its not about horsepower, its all about a perfectly executed engineering design for a performance sports car. America just can't come close. Miata/MX-5!

  • An S2000 was meant to be a raunchier alternative to a quintessential British Miata

    If you had a say, Lotus and you were being laughed at for your modified Toyota, you'd obviously get...wait, there's an Exige, dammit .

    But point still stands, as the two were meant for different people, the S2000 is great, but it isn't that simple fun driving car the Miata is.

  • @ mucura1 up until today, I had never heard of an s2000. I had heard of miatas, and seen them too. Stop thinking with your butt. They quit making s2000's because they couldn't handle the competition.

  • Why are there so many 'S2000 would own a Miata!' comments? So what! A Porsche 911 would own an S2000, and a Veyron would own a 911; it's a stupid argument!

    I used to own an MX-5, now I own an S2000, and although I'm not an experienced driver as I'm only 23, in my eyes they are both great cars. And the MX-5 is quicker on some roads. And no that's not BS!

  • @MiamiMiataGroupInc 1990 Ford Probe had a Mazda 3.0 V6. Mazda Navaho and Explorer, are the same car. So yea in the day they owned the company. Probably not to day, but what ever you did say Mazda had less than 50% share in the company.

  • Well first off, I dont know why you keep yapping about torque....torque is only has good as its gears, which the stock mazda severely lacks. Secondly the honda, is just as upgradeable as the mazda, and last time I checked its not that hard to add torque to a honda with aftermarket parts. Have you ever driven an s2000. I bet 1000 dollars you would not even know how to use the vtec or even what it does for the car let alone that honda spent 7 years perfecting a 9000 rpm perf tuned car.

  • Yes I had the chance to drive both back to back enjoyed an S2K for two years and there is a reason why the S2K went LOL. No matter how much time honda spends building a sports car it always been about the same results. They never make it right no Honda sports car ever makes it past 10 years they always die before LOL. Perhaps they should quit trying and failing so much. Honda had always been about building grocery getters like civics and accords, they are not sports car or even resemble one.

  • @MiamiMiataGroupInc the reason honda sports cars only have 10 year runs is because they dont bother upgrading them. The NSX sent ferrari and lamborghini back to the drawing board. The S2000 sent Porsche and BMW to redesign their cars from all show to actual track preformers. Granted they dont stay competitive but for a 20 year old car the NSX still beats out alot of other modern day sports cars around the track. The s2000 still holds its own despite being a 10 year old design.

Honda has yet to build an identity at the track, road course that is, I have yet to see a video of an S2K beating car costing twice as much money, where those kinds of Miata videos are quite abundant, I have seen videos of Miatas burring alive an S2k at the track and in the turns but yet to see it the other way around, go do some research fun boy.

Last time i checked the Supra wasnt in production anymore yet can probably outhandle both our cars and leave us in the dust at the strip. RX7, 300ZX, etc. All awesome cars that are no longer in production. Second in which automagazine have you ever seen them state that a s2000 is inferior to a miata stock for stock performance wise?

  • @mucura1 I wasn't talking about who was inferior or who was superior jackass, when a car is good to the point it makes magazines and people talk, that's what the Miata has been doing for years, media wise the S2K have been dead for years because it failed to impress automotive journalists around the world the way a Miata did. Sorry dude but those a real world facts that you or not one can deny. The Miata has more recognitions and awards around the world and S2K can only dream of having.

  • @MiamiMiataGroupInc Last time i checked the s2000 has had alot of awards worldwide. It sent bwm and porsche back to the drawing board and it took them 10 years to slightly edge out the s2000 on a track perfomance level with their roadsters. No miata has done that. The miata is a cheap convertible, that is light and handles good. Anyone under the sun could own one hence why its still so popular. S2000 is more pricey and not for everyone. But performance wise? S2k>miata. Just accept that fact.

  • @mucura1 The Miata has been referred 2 as the most fun U can get 4 your money under 30 grands and is the one most manufacturers look at to build their competition, you know very well that the S2K was an imitation of the original roadster and sport car the Miata I can assure U Honda had 2 get a Miata and study its roots wonder about their success if there is a car that made quite a splash and made others pay close attention it was the Miata not the S2K a distant second 10 years later.   • @MiamiMiataGroupInc A stock s2k will run a similar track time to a base corvette stock for stock depending on the year. Last time i checked the corvette was about double the price to the s2k. Sure the s2k now isnt as performancely peaked as it was years ago with all the new offerings out. but it took other automakers 10 years to make vehicles that slightly outpreform the s2k in the same market of roadsters. Some dont even do that *coughs* miata *coughs*.

  • The Miata is what it is because Mazda want's it to be that way is not a performance car I agree and it doesn't need to be. This car have anything available to take it to that level and destroy your beloved S2K but that is up to individual Miata owners, the Miata is hundreds of pounds lighter and makes more torque than and S2K requiring less power to eat an s2k for lunch, Mazda has done the right thing keep it fun simple and affordable something Honda failed to do. Case closed.

If you bought one to drag. you bought the wrong car. You should have bought a muscle car. both of these cars excel in overall performance at the track however the s2000 destroys your lude at the track. So unless your playing the modding game STFU.

  • who started talking about SCCA spec racing? Where is mazdas f1 team? Miata is inferior to the s2000 stock for stock. If you like the miata fine thats cool. But a miata is not better than a s2000 in looks (which may be subjective, power (fact), track performance (fact), and resale value (fact).   • um whether or not it has been discontiued or not does not equate to the s2000 being inferior in performance to a miata. The supra, 300zx was discontinued but that hasnt made any of those two cars any less than the beasts they are. The s2000 is clearly more vehicle than a miata will ever hope to be. Its a baby f1 car. A street legal go cart. The miata is just a roadster with no balls. A cruiser car nothing more. Keep your anemic miata but do not speak out your ass about performance.

  • Here in Canada, Boxster goes from 60,000$ to 78,000$, while the MX5 is sold 40,000$ fully equiped (base price is 29,000$). Just to add up some infos for everybody: the profit margin of the dealer for an MX5, as of 2009, is 10,78% (WAY higher than most other dealers take from there cars). The car has been on the market for over 15 years, so there's no reason why it should be this high. As for the Boxter, Porshe is not giving numbers. I assure you that 10% is a VERY large profit margin for Mazda.

  • Mazda's roadster is an entry level car, while the Boxster is a luxury intermediate level roadster. It is like comparing a Ford Ranger to an F150, it can't be done. But there are no other entry level roadsters on the market. There once was the Solstice, the Sky (in america (which is a continent, not a country)) and the Opel GT. Well, it could be placed in the same category then a mini cooper cabrio or a VW new beetle cabrio, while the boxster is more in the league of the 370Z , the Z4 or the SLK

  • I don't believe the MX5 to be a direct competitor to any Porshe and I'm prety confident Mazda's making money with it. It isnt underprized. The Solstice was an all aluminum car with hydroformed parts and was around the same market price. In one of my new 2010 autoguides, it is written the percentage of money a company makes by selling a car and I don't remember seeing any mazda taking a final cut below 7% (I'll have to check it back.I left the book at my job). By the way, I love the new hard top*

  • The Miata has a pretty stiff base, it actually handles very well in twists and turns. It was actually surprising when I got to test drive one.

    Not the quickest car in the world, nor does anything actually stand out about the car but it does handle better than a lot of its competitors.

  • Miata is better in terms of everyday use and running cost. I know S2000 is a dream to drive, but it's in the same case as the Lotus Elise or the Renault F1, good on paper, great on tracks, yet totally unnecessary when you are stuck in the middle of traffic for two hours everyday.
