as i spend my vaccacions at the beginning of august 2011, i saw this yacht with the helicopter int he harbour of zadar. amazing thing!! is it a privat yacht and helicopter and how does it work to rise the money so extremely high?! regards from an german engineer.
Was there anybody going to chain you down? I know the sea state wasn't scary but I figured you'd have some support crew getting some chains on you quickly.
I think the yacht is the Aurora A formerly owned by Andy McKelvey.. he's dead now, so I'm sure that's why this video has been posted. He was incredibly wealthy! The EC135 you see is now owned by the Broward County Sheriffs Office.
You must be an expert with that comment. The second boat (tender) is in tow over 100 feet behind the yacht and no it is easier to land under way. With over 1500 hundred landings on that boat I can assure you that it is the way it's done while at sea.
This is one of the most kickass videos I have ever seen. I love yachts, I love the sea, and most of all I love Helicopters, particulary EC's. I'd give my right nut to have this job.
@TheSovietSteel I feel almost the same - perhaps we can assist each other and share info on opportunities we find out about how to go about doing that, but only give up bad things like wasting time with retards or inferior activities. I wouldn't want to ride with a pussy pilot at the helm, so I suggest you do your best to keep your balls. :) Val

Actually that was our tender in tow but you can't see the spectra line in the video. Yes when we are not underway we do have a small rescue boat in the water for helicopter ops.
Awesome video. One of the only videos I've seen of a beautiful EC135 in HD!
I am very interested in turning my passion for aviation into a career. I'm 17 and a senior in high school, and I'm split down two paths to take to obtain my goal: military, and civilian. I've read that the military's flight programs are very misleading, and difficult to get into, and that civilian flight school is a better route. Do you have any words of advice regarding these options to becoming a paid pilot?
I purchased a "Helicopters for Dummies" book and read it a bunch of times until I just about figured it out.. LOL
I started training in 1989 and became an instructor to build up time etc. I also was crew on many yachts while also flying. Flew years of news and charters and just fell into this niche. It is great fun but can be very demanding at times.
Good luck if this is the path you choose as you will enjoy it!
thanks for the answer. Yes, thats the way I'm going to choose! For ten years it has been my aim to become a pilot. Now I have applied for a job at the federal police germany, because I have no money for doing the ppl or chpl.
Hey! I noticed it's been 5 months since you posted your comment. How is it going with your career? I'm 13 (almost 14) and been into aviation for 4 years.
@rotoryacht LMFAO!!!! LOL Yeah instead of the well know yellow color, the flying version comes in Blue color, ya know like the color of the sky! I just got a copy from walmart for $12. I can't wait to land on my first yacht! LOL
Nice landing by the way! I was curious, Have you flown a AS350 or 55 and if so how would U compare these two helis with this EC. Thanks in advance.
@rotoryacht sorry for a late reply but what do you mean by demanding? :) I would love to work as a helicopter pilot in my life but sadly I do not have the finance to pay for it at this time, hopefulle in 3-4 years I might.
