Amazing tone and playing! The only thing i don't like about firebirds, are the tuners. They are always so heavy, making the guitar go out of balance. But the one in the video looks well balanced. I would love to own one of those. Keep up the great job Mr. Hilden.
It's interesting how much like a normal firebird (one with Firebird pickups) this guitar sounds. They must have a special version of the hum bucker they designed to somewhat emulate it.
I have question about the firebird though. I'm thinking about ordering and I have no chance of trying one before doing so. I've heard that the head is really heavy which makes a bit hard to stand up and play since it just wants to fall over the whole time. Is this true or is this exaggerated?
@ssstoffe it is true for the standard firebirds since they have the "banjo tuners" witch are extremely heavy compared to the mini grovers on the studio
@Bruceholvenstot sorry if I may be wrong, but don't you need to crank the amp to get the tube distortion? And I have seen Greg comenting that he can only play at a low volume because he he has neighbours.
@MrBadAssBoy123 pedals are ment to emulate the tube distortion and speaker break up of tube amps with low headroom a la neal young's deluxe. he 's uses pretty low wattage amps generally so with a baffle or something we could hear how how it sounds cranked up. if you're selling guitars that expensive you want to hear how they sound in an authentic context. maybe i'm wong but it isnt very authentic to put a brand new 100 $ pedal between a 6000$ gtr and a 3000$ amp from 1959.
@skulchin I mean mean Ray Manzerek. Like Ray Manzerek playing guitar - I know Robbie is the guitarist, but they style feels more Manzerekish.. if that makes any sense at all ;)
@skulchin Nope, I mean Ray Manzerek. I know Robbie is the Guitarist, but this sounds like Ray Manzerek picked up a guitar and did his thing.. if that makes any sense ;)
I will NEVER understand why Gibson did everything they could to ugly those guitars up by putting the dorkiest headstock on them they could come up with. The bodies are sure cool though.
Pray friend, why is this the only video of yours with a Firebird? Do you not like to sell them? I would LOVE to see you play some more firebirds (preferably with minihumbuckers and neck-through design).
Wow , that's a great sound. You have beautiful feel and imagination! Yes you have fine equipment but it's the player that plays! Nice job! Loved it!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"
On the high end one It feels like the head stock and body are just unbalanced is the studio a little more stable? I cant stop watching and listening to this video. It sounds so so good.
So any videos going up of normal sounds without the trem? So It seems the Studio would be more for me. I don't really like the binding and tuning machines. So you like you're studio?
How are the pick ups different in this one or the standard one. I'm looking at used studios but they are only a few 100 dollars more. I'm not really big on binding and all that or gibsons for that matter. Just really love the shape and thick neck of these guitars. So can you do more demos? ha
Why in the name of GOD does Gibson put the pup selector switches of their guitars all over the place? The one on a Firebird is so far out of the way I can't stand it. A Les Paul is situated perfectly as is Fender's Strat.. I like the 335, 345, and 355 setups as well as most of the others but I don't know if the engineers were awake when they let some of their guitars go through the manufacturing process.
Oh, mal ganz was anderes :-) Ok, auf ner Firebird möchte ich auch gern die kleinen Firebird-PUs sehen/hören, aber der alte Tweed Vibrolux klingt echt Hammer!
Cool as usual, the old things has a marvellous sound but please test it on a shuffle kind of groove with the okko. on that clip it sounds a bit like "rider on the storm" and here you can' hear the raindrops fallings ... great.
wow!!!!! that was so fk nice!!

@ssstoffe I've had more than one Firebird. I think it has the best balance of anything... very comfortable guitar to play. Best neck ever.

@Bruceholvenstot that was kinda the way I ment ;) but I see you already knew that...
Maybe he loves his home plenty enough to not want to risk losing it by annoying the neighbours, i don't know.
But I'm sure that Greg chooses pedals with care ;)

@RyanWekwert it is different because these are full size humbuckers, They have a bigger, warmer Sound

Sounds good Greg. I like gibsons too.
I just bought a '76 Reissue Gibson Explorer.
Everybody seems to play 'metal' on these things, but they are so much more. Comfortable to play too! For a pointy guitar. Cool jazz tones.
I'd love to hear you take one for a test drive.
Hot pickups. (My only complaint is, even new, it needed a set up and fret dress. Now it's great. No big deal)

He gets rid of a tone control as well.
That position is on most of Gibson's guitars.
Look at the SG, 335,345,355, Byrdland and others.
My PRS SAS switch is below the vol knob.
