looks like mine. i thought mine sounded better with the pipes on. i have 2 glass packs and i ran a crossover between the 2. runs out right behind the passenger side door. what a strong engine when you add a cam 4barrel and some headers. seems to get better fuel milage than the one with the single barrel did however the old one did have 350 k. extremely reliable in any kind of weather.
It has duals with glasspacks now that run back to the bumper, and it's much better to not have all that noise in the cab. I didnt add a cam, but used the GM 292 rockers, which helps mid range by about 5hp.
If I put say, MSD ignition parts on my 300, would I get crappy milage too??? and you're gonna drop a cummins in an f100? that would be sweet!!!! it's cool to see some guys who are not always like "Oh yeah, put a 350 in it, that'll make it cool..." It's awesome you have a lot more of an imagination than that...
The better ign will raise mpg a smidge, plus make it run and start better. You get a more useable timing curve with the points distributor also. Unless you know how to limit the centrifugal advance inside the Duraspark dist.
You'll hear a lot of guys mention, "just put a 390 or 460 in it". I still like the 300, it's an ideal daily driver. The one warning I have with it, the intake needs heat if you live in a cold climate, if you go with a 4bbl one.
@nevrenufhp i want to put a 300 in my 58 edsel wagon.but i cant find any info on what its gonna take to do swap.i heard a 302 will bolt up the easiest.but i really want a 300 but seems a bit to long for my bay.if it is i would probably have to remove fan and clutch and put in an electric fan.what do you think?
Likely it's never been done, so you wont find much info. I would think no fan or clutch would make a lot of room. A 300 can fit in a 60s Mustang, so the Edsel shouldnt be much different. It would be a better choice than a 302, for sure. Check the fordsix site, under the "Fitting a 300 in a Mustang" thread.
@nevrenufhp if its 36"from the waterpump to the firewall than it wont fit cause i still need to put the fan blade unless i find a water pump the bolts up with a shorter snout or eliminate the fan and put in a electric fan on the front of the radiator.thanx for all ur help!!
@nevrenufhp thanx i think so too if anything i could put an electric fan..now to find an engine to buy haha!! im debating if i should get one from the junk yard.they seem good.
I tried an MSD Blaster SS coil on my 300-6 motor. The stock coil has too much resistance in colder weather. Stronger, faster spark with the MSD. I mounted mine on the valve cover. Waiting to get 6AL setup. I get great mileage with the 1bbl. I rarely put more than $10.00 at fillup. Of course, my vehicle weighs 5100 lbs. The engine is a masterpiece of simple engineering. But those valve lash adjustments are critical. Most important accessory should be a pre-luber.
Getting power is more of a wallet factor than anything.
Go check fordsix d o t c o m and see what all has been done with em. It aint no 460, but they run velvetty smooth, and provide good power for city driving.
@brotz3 It's all a matter of money. A K&N air intake, and MSD ignition system are both cheap and easy installs. Removing the AC compressor is easy and almost free, just need to buy a non-AC serpentine belt. If you have the money to spend, cam, turbo (I've heard the duramax ones work well) and you'll blow the doors off all those big block boat anchors.
For what it is, it's not too bad. Compared to a new car, it's not so fast. It does make it a lot more fun, and mpg is the same as stock(12-14). See my other videos for my nephew's 72 F100, it's got a lot more power than mine.

how come only 12-14 mpg with all them fancy parts?
jp23jd 2 years ago
It's a combo of a lot of things, like timing, gearing, driving style, and it hardly sees over 50mph. I have a 4 cyl Cummins to replace it though.

@nevrenufhp MY ENGINE BAY MEASURES 36 INCHES .NOW IF I COULD MEASURE THE ENGINE BAY OF A MUSTANG OR FORD TRUCK.
JohnnyDesaint 5 months ago
@JohnnyDesaint
I measured, and 33.5 is the minimal needed to clear the water pump. It's 36" from the water pump snout to the firewall, with a big gap at the back.

That's 36 to the firewall with 2.5" of space to work with. I think it'll fit.
