  • This is a super human being , achievement above any 2 and 1 sector is able to accomplish , your video is the most significant event in planetary human health made since ever recorded.

My understanding is that this is meaning full.

  • Is it just me or did Vernor Vinge not illustrate this idea perfectly in the opening chapter of "Rainbows End"?

  • This is not a very good lecture to eat cereals on :S

  • poor man donot know what exactly is going on in human body. when small pox disappers another bigger ones outbreaks. smallpox stages of infecion is actually defence mechanism to expel the toxin or virus in the body. and this poor man eradicated it by suppressing the smallpox. do u know what u did? u suppresed the small illness to an outbreak of a bigger epidemic.

  • jomymathew99, I have a question for you. When and where did you obtain this theory that you mentioned? Do you have scientific proof? Documents? May I ask what qualification and background you have? I have medical background and I never ever heard anything close to what you have said

  • 4:10 The most inappropriate laugh ever!!!!!!

  • makes a change doesnt it lol. i normally feel ashamed of it

  • Excellent!

    I love their work!

  • oh yes. i love TED. i had not seen it for a while. brilliant people! thanks for sharing it.

  • Why does every interesting thing have to be hijacked by conspiracy theorist nutjobs?

  • Lol, Aids was a deasise from monkeys transferred to humans.

  • transfered by US military fucking apes

  • I think I have the copy right on the above quote: "conspiracy theorist nutjobs," but I agree wholeheartedly! -:)

  • Larry is Brilliant!!!

If you have money to donate projects like these might be more worthwhile than art galleries or ballet performance. (Considering the proportions of where donations go. A ballet performance might still be better than another yacht...)

  • Tremendous achievement

  • innovative & inspirational~

  • Aloha, This is so good..Thanks to you all esp. the ELHS owner. Kate

  • i think he should go for india's PM. :-) they will be happy to elect him, instead of italian Sonia.

  • at 4:16- does someone laugh??? :s wow

  • Yeh don't think the guy laughing didn't realise it wasn't a joke!

  • realizing something like that doesn't happen, before you laugh.

as Larry Brilliant guessed, that there was someone who read really fast in the crowd, namely the person who laughed.

that person may have misread, may have had a personal experience that made him find something funny on the slide shown.

and when that happens, you dont stop, have a conversation with yourself and then decide it's ok to find it funny and laugh out loud.

laughter just bursts out, and that's a good thing :)

  • Seriously. I breathed a deep sigh of relief when I realized what that was about. If Brilliant hadn't intuited why that guy was laughing, everyone would have thought was the biggest asshole on Earth, forever.

  • I agree wholeheartedly. The guy laughing wasn't trying to make fun of unfortunate people.

  • in other words, it could have simple boxes to click and pictures to guide, as well as uploading capabilities to send in media. this would let GPHIN instantly analyze trends without trenching through unspecified ammature reports.

  • dandvd, i had the same initial thought upon hearing this proposal. perhaps, instead of allowing anyone from the internet community to 'freely' report any phenomena that appeared odd and dangerous, GPHIN could design a universally accessable and multi-lingual interface that allows anyone from the internet community to easily specifiy and characterize their specific reports.

  • GPHIN is a good idea, but how about leveraging the community of Internet user by simply letting them enter reports about disease outbreaks, on a central GPHIN site?

Right now, if I spot a weird case of an apparently unknown disease, I'll report it to a local hospital, then wait... until the hospital goes public with the story (IF they do), and until GPHIN picks up the story from the local newspaper... all this while I have photos of the subject, and could post everything online.

  • oh yes. i love TED. i had not seen it for a while. brilliant people! thanks for sharing it.

  • nooooooooo what was he actualy going to call it ?
