not terrible but you're not on broadway yet. the theatrics took away from the voice. I'm all about changing the song to make it sound best for your voice and adding riffs as well, but playing with the notes too much takes away from the words and song. if you calm down the hand gestures and odd facial expressions, it could be really great.

Your voice is fine, which is obvious. However, if you want to be taken seriously in a professional sense, then remember what style of music you're performing. Because while your voice is pretty, this is NOT a pop song.

All the riffs you chose were just too much, and you were creating emphasis on words that need not be emphasized.

Also, you need to remember that while belting is very impressive, it's only impressive if you aren't shouting. Which at brief moments, was what you were doing.

@katherinebarkeley I think with a little coaching, she would be just fine. Professionally, I think they would love her take on this song. Almost every Elphaba out there sings this song in her own way and may of them incorporate more riffs than she did. I think this song has plenty of room for stylization as it is not your typical showtune and especially at this part of the song is, in fact, very pop/rock. Her only real issue is falling flat at the end of some of her phrases.

@LMBSSB an octave down from what, exactly? unless I'm mistaken, this is the same key as all the other versions/original version I've heard. If it was an octave higher or lower, it would sound rediculous either way. This is a very good performance of a hard vocal part.. not sure what your problem with it is?

I love how you get into your music! I can tell how much you love to sing and act and I believe you really will go far. As someone who is classically trained, try working on your breathing a little (it's a little high chested) a good trick is to pretend you're breathing through noses in your stomach... a little weird but it really works. Also on the higher parts try not to sing in belt it's more impressive in full voice and less damaging on the vocal chords (you'll last longer as a singer) :)
