i know nothing about raising wild animals in captivity, so i'm not comprehending why they immediately took it away from it's mother. What purpose does that serve? Can captive orangutans not take care of their own young?

@BleetRamsey if you listen at the 10 sec mark. they explain that Kelly, the mother, did not keep the baby. sometimes animals will reject their young and leave them to themselves. and of course since orangutans are scarce in numbers. the zoo wants to help the young so they have to raise the baby and soon introduce it to a surrogate mother.
