  • i only like it cause brian and rogger hehehehe

  • From 0:45 I thought I am listening to Brighton Rock :). And yes from this I guess the Brighton Rock solo was born.

  • Blag! A pearl :)

  • Quite the Cream influence but Queen is all over this too.

  • Sounds a little bit like Brighton Rock!!!!!

  • Of course, they formed a power trio in the style of Cream, and the son is clearly similar to "I Feel Free" . The singing style also resembles Cream. I consider this a very good thing, they later formed a band that will be remembered decades after Cream is forgotten.

  • after a smile it comes a queen, this is not

    rock,this is ROCK!!!!!

  • The singer kinda sounds like Jeff Buckley.

  • so, here the brighton rock solo started to take shape???

  • Se nota que hay guitarra de Bryan May en esta canción!

  • A pretty disjointed song at the time...

  • Tim Staffel has a fantastic voice! No wonder it took Freddie Mercury to shadow him! He's great. Did he ever go on to form any other bands?

  • @bartlettandbosc I've heard he left to go join a band called Humpy Bong. Not kidding about the name.

  • Tim looks like O. Wilde!

  • wow, this is a great song!!!!!!!!

  • Smile was great band, and I was want say: ,,They had a good future" but It's bullshit! A future of Smile was Queen, if Mercury was not join to Smile, Queen can be never start... Yes - Smile was good but Queen was much beter !

  • This is a hell of a song!

  • In terms of May/Taylor writing efforts, I think this is a much better song than "Machines (Back to Humans)." Makes me wish there was more Smile stuff out there...

  • Proto-Queen! I love Smile.

  • sounds kinda of like the first 5 seconds of the night comes down

  • and from this band came the 4 kings of rock, also known as the one and only QUEEN

  • I love this song, Smile is great.

The solo sounds pretty much like Brighton Rock´s solo.

  • That's where it came from

  • @Paiola You're right! They also use this in Langham studio version of Son & Daughter

  • And wasn't Earth the inspiration for 39!

  • There's tonnes of stuff appearing on Utube with Tim Staffell's voice! I think he was an undescovered Gem of a singer! There are a few versions of Earth, but check out the version on the end of one of the Nova Solis songs under the band name Morgan, that was downloaded recently. His voice on this is just breathtaking!

  • And thus, Brighton Rock came to be!

  • Tim Staffell doesn't compare to Freddie Mercury.

  • No he's a better bass player!!!

  • They must have been big fans of Cream

  • I know Roger was. Ginger Baker was one of his main drumming influences. That's one of the reasons he replied to Brian's advert when they were at college and hence they met.

  • The sound was already there before Freddie added the rest!

  • The sound was there but the amazing-er bass and beautiful voice weren't.

  • ahh, i love this song.

smile was such a great band, too bad they only released a few songs.

but brian looks so cute with his curly short hair.

& roger looks quite cute too. =P

  • The birth of the Brighton Rock solo! :)

  • @brightonrock74 some of the drumming parts remind me of Brighton Rock, too.

  • I like how the bass comes back in 2:39 - 2:42

  • Smile release any albums? If so, I want them! I know Brian May did a comp. in 1987...

  • And, "Ghost of a Smile" was released in 1997 in Holland. It was remastered and featured some linear notes in the booklet by Tim Staffell.

  • I own Queen In Nuce which has all of the songs they recorded in the studio!

  • In Nuce is a rather poor issue. It's all scratchy and staticy, I fully recommend you seek out The Royal Unobtainable Collection which has the songs done in these studios which have a much better quality then the grainy In Nuce CD. It's not perfect, but it does have better sound. Trust me.

  • i love the drums to this song

  • good

  • Whoa...Brian's hair it's...short?

  • Well if it isn't long and it isn't halfway between long and short, then what else would it be? ;)

  • Did you imagine Brian was born wearing the fab curly locks of his?

  • (Plop!) It's a boy. But already with incredibly much and long curly hair?! ;o)

  • "Brighton Rock" was based on this song.

  • Yes, that's true you can see it better from minute 2:12 to 2:35

  • Love Smile!

As for the picture in the vid...it's very cute. Brian's hair somehow doesn't look at curly.

  • the guitar solo is like "brighton rock"

  • We david i'm michele (italian) it's awesome blag and brian (no comment)it's fantastic!

    I always vote your videos!

    W i Queen!

  • Bryan May was at lead guitar?

  • I believe so...

because Brian was the only man playing the guitar in Smile. ;P

  • tim was playing bass or something at step on me. look at the picture in the vid

  • ja ja the 60's ^^

  • i loved smile they had sme terrific songs!!

  • Yes no doubt. It IS the roots of Brighton Rock. Had this been released now this would have been titled BLOG instead hehehehe......

  • Nobody still talk bout the groove!!!!

    That's wonderfull!

  • ROGER IS A LITLE BOY!

  • Roger was the cutest little thing on earth!! He's still pretty awesome but I can't say he's cute now!

  • Great song! Very "CREAMESQUE", like "i'm so glad" from Cream. Brian has an hendrix haircut style!

  • lol
