Bless this girl only nine years old and she knows she dyspraxia can make you creative and she shows this through poetry i have dyspraxia i remember these feelings at school and never knew how to express myself correctly i would always be aggresive to people. she probally can teach people stuff about themselves that they never knew
im having a test next week to see whether im dyspraxic or not. i think i do though, because all the things in this poem applied to me when i was young, and some of the things still do. i hate being different :(
@evietheboydxx I know it's hard when you're first getting diagnosed but I promise it gets easier. It's all about finding a way to cope and having a method to do things and well embracing your differentness. If you wan't to talk I want to listen.
I am 38 years old, and have several disabilities, dysphasia (speech and language), dyspraxia, dyscalculia (maths), deafness and Irlen Syndrome, aka Scotopic sensitivity syndrome. Before coming to University, I wasn't very liked by the mainstream world as no-one understood my disabilities and they called me a freak. But I am showing them, as most of them aren't at uni and they aren't living the life that I have. I am a Vice President of a national charity and am popular at uni and doing well.
I show this to my 7yrs olds teachers so they can have a point of view from him. So they know we're not treating him like he's better..but adjusting to his needs because it is a disability. He's not lazy or an angry child...he's frustrated and learns differently. He just needs a little extra time to get things done
as the mother of a dyspraxic child i relate to every word you said hun, my daughter is now 21 and is immature for her age, but you have been given the gift of words and poetry which were displayed beautifully...what a beautiful soul you are and never let anyone tell you different.....
I can still do all of these things, but it is certainly a challenge. You can live a happy life with dyspraxia, and I've learned how to have neater writing, I've even written songs. I can read well now, but I still get bad marks in school. The U.S doesn't do much for dyspraxics but I've learned to manage, and I feel like my future is bright
@Tacoflavoredkiss1 US doesn't but I'm hoping to raise more awareness. What helped you to read, write, speak & do math? My sister & I so do wish for my nephew to get caught up, feel better about his condition-we want to see him get to where you are. We do everything possible to help OT, Speech Therapy, etc. What has helped you? In general? Thank you! :)
@WhateverNWhatNot I just got a lot of extra help in school from teachers so I was pretty lucky, math is still really hard for me, but generally things have gotten a lot better from all the help i recieved :D
I have recently started thinking that my daughter has Dyspraxia. She never crawled as a baby and didn't walk until she was 1.5. She is now five and still falls all the time, can't climb stairs very well, can't ride a bike, and runs very differently from her twin brother and class mates. I cried after I heard this poem, because so much of it reminded me of her. She says she doesn't like school, because it is hard and the other children don't like her. She is all ways in trouble with the teacher.
There is a lot of truth in this poem. I find it really frustrating that there is a lack of awareness of dyspraxia and I feel a lot more could be done to improve this. Too many people make negative assumptions about people with dyspraxia due to their ignorance of the condition. In adulthood, a lot of people with dyspraxia end up unemployed or underemployed, which is a massive waste of potential.
@Joolz211 it's a difficult one because so many people assume it seems to be a physical thing when in reality dyspraxia effects much more mentally than people realise. It's so hard to make people understand! Also it's not unlike OCD in the way that a lot of people assume it's just a normal thing that anybody could self-diagnose and deal with... and being dyspraxic and trying to express all of this to anybody who will listen is even worse, I can never find my words!
So. Im 20 years old. and I just found out I have Dyspraxia. I wasnt told, i stumbled onto a article tonight and pieced it together. I hate it. It's disabling. I turn my feet in and because of that I have problems with my legs and back and I can't ride horses anymore or walk in a straight line. Dyspraxia isn't bad on its own, but when you have other things wrong then it becomes a problem. I also still have no idea what 6+7 is, or anything else 'simple' like that, after 11 years of being taught to do it.
im 12 and i have severe verbal and motor dyspraxia. i started dancing when i was three and as im still really clumsy i dread to think what i would be like if i didnt go dancing. i just want to say that if you try you can do anything. the doctors said that i was one of the most severe cases theyd ever seen. i went to a mainstreem school that could help me and i was only the second person to stop going there and go to a closer school. if your dyspracic just remember you can do anything you want :)
My 4 year old son has this this and its hard for him! Just this week he fell in the toilet and split his head open! They say as he gets older the more clumsier he will get! So to all of you people with it i feel for u i really do its not called the hidden handicap for nothing! Just remember to be strong and dont let the bullies/doubters get u down! Ill always be there for my son and i hope u all have someone there for you! Best of luck!
I'm also 21 and have dyspraxia. School is not a good memorey for me I could never do P.E or walk in a streight line my work always got rejected. People rejected me and actually still do. I let people down I hate going out I cant dress properly life feels a mess.:(
I'm also 21 and have dyspraxia. I always felt I was no good and school times were terrible for me. I couldnt kick a ball or do a forward roll at P.E. I couldn't cut of with scissors and always had my work rejected. Adult life so far Im very clumsy I stuggle to dress properly or walk in a streight line. Unfortunatly I never got any help until a year ago as far as others were concered I was just clumsy and just needed extra lessons.

I'm a 21 year old with Dyspraxia, I can identify with a lot of this poem. Describing things is hellish, no one understands me, I must slur my words or talk too quietly. Having multiple projects on the go is annoying, can't organize my time.
Dyspraxia kinda sucks sometimes, but I also credit with my creativity and intelligence in certain areas (unlike many dyspraxics, i'm not only good at english - but am nearly a savant when it comes to it.)
dyspraxia does hurt, when you do stuff like fall in a dicth as you cant walk sraight, when you have to take your hat off in the light. it does hurt to be punished for dawdling when you are going as fast as you can. it does hurt to push away evryone you want to be friends with. it does hurt to be told off by a teacher for havig a computer in lessons, and have to shout across the cass that you cant write. but however much it hurts, you do get to enjoy neurodiversity sometimes.
I have this. No one's ever use this term however. I've just always been known as a klutz. I can remember having my bike taken away from me when I was young because doctors thought I was being abused. I can remember always being the weak one (I also have hypotonia), but I never gave up. I've always pushed myself. I think not knowing the term meant I could never use it as an excuse. Now that I'm beyond the point where I'd ever give up, I'm cool with knowing what it all means.
I am 18 with dyspraxia, i only recently discovered the diagnosis, i never had any help with anything and people just assumed i was stupid, that just made me try so much harder but i could only ever achive Cs which isnt bad but i know i am smarter than that.
I am 20 and have dyspraxia. I suffered a lot of bullying when I was younger, especially becuase most of the kids saw me when I didn't have as good a grasp on my dyspraxia and there were clear differences between me and them. When I was 10 I moved to Australia from New Zealand and I found it a lot easier to fit in and make friends without the preconceptions. Most of my friends now don't even know I have it. I was thrilled when Daniel Radcliffe said that he has it.
im dyspraxic aswell it is a pain but it doesnt hurt i get bullied allot 4 not writeing right propery i hate the girls in my schol and my teachers for doing that 2 me its allready bad enough i get bullied but when the teachers do it aswell i feel like slappin them for not understanding
Great video! My 3 year old son has suspected dyspraxia and it really struck a chord! For a 9 year old girl 2 write a poem as beautiful as that is some going very very well done!
Brilliant , but One thing to remember (and being 35 and having Dyspraxia and Dyslexia myself). We don;t want to be "normal" we want to be our self's . No such thing as normal , even normal people know that ;)
I'm quite severly Dyspraxic, and I think the most important thing to remember is to keep trying and to realise that you can still achieve whatever you want to do.
@Nickster316 Definatly, I'm 12 with dyspraxia only today I got stressed like 12 times and I find it realy hard to consentrait and my balance is just unexistent :(
this is a very good, and true feeling of Dyspraxia, I lived with it all of my childhood without knowing the reasons why. it wasn't until I was 30 that I finally found out about being diagnosed when I was 10. and that did screw up my life. if I knew then what I know now, then school might not have been quite so bad, but to not be able to put your fingure on the problem then teachers never did care. they were worse than the kids for picking on me. and made it obvious to the rest of the class.
i cried when i saw this. a hidden problem it is and people judge, people want everyone to be normal but some of us arnt normal and never will be we cant do anything about it. my girl friend broke up with me because of my smarts and kids call me names kids judge me as they do with everyone who cant do somthing normaly, they mock me in football because im un balenced and they mock me for not remembering the plays because short term memry is part of this hidden desize.
Brilliant poem well done Kathriene. Im 29 now and was diagnosed around 7 or 8 and this video rings so true. I still have many problems today on a daily basis but it does get better as you learn a way around things.
True that brother. Don't sweat the PE aspect of school as GCSE PE was/is optional. My only advice as an adult looking back at a younger child is to become a strong typist. It's a great motor skill which will pay dividends when you're out in the working world. It takes me about 10 minutes to legibly address an envelope using a pen, but I could print off an address label in a few seconds as I regularly type at 140+ WPM. Plus I don't have to worry about off centre writing, slants etc. Happy XMas.
Fantastic! Brilliant! My son has Dyspraxia and this video is so accurate. Thank you for capturing the essence of what it is like for a dyspraxic child and doing it so eloquently.
dyspraxia is a pain. i learned my shoe laces at 16. I can read and write decently... But what truly hurts is the confusion, it makes me want to cry and scream. Because i cant describe whats wrong.. and i cant focus. :(
im dyspraxic, and it is a pain, i feel for the girl who wrote this poem and her experiences. Im 13 and In my life iv'e had no support, teachers are ignorant and neglectful, one thing that gets me down is reading comments in my book saying "improve presentation" and when I compare my art work with others, I view dyspraxia as a gift though, us dyspraxics are unique in our own way
Find out what your good at. I found recently what I want to do and my life is better. I wasn't that good at art but I'm good at photography. Your 13 so you have ages to figure this out :)
I agree. i failed all gcses. except for one. as that teacher helped. im 22. and it is difficult. but one thing for sure. is to keep your head up. and through it all. fight to focus on what you want to do in life. Have you had an ocupational therepist to take some time with you?
yeah iv''e had the full works, but tbh i feel its near useless, what they do i feel doesnt help me, liike the handwriting, they make me practice and practive everyday, and ivé been doing it for non stop a year, and its still not improving much.
yeah I had the same problem, to write neat by hand then it really slowed down my handwriting speed as it meant I had to think of the letter several time that I was writing, and then the next letter.
Im doing my GCSE's at the moment and I have dyspraxia. I hate my life as I constantly get bullyed at school and at home. I have no self confodance and I bacily at fail everything I do. I think I am a failure in life. As I look at what I have acheved I think it means nothing. I am a waste of sperm. I even failed a simple CBT moped test. I am worth nothing, why did I have to be demmed with this problem. I just want to be normal and smart like the rest. :' (
I know the feeling, as failed my catagory c licence twice.
but as for car then I passed that first time, but that was because I had put in loads of effort. I mean like 90 hours if not more with my parents, and 26 hours with the driving instructor.
@Utuber452 I feel sorry for you. Everyone has a purpose in life and so do you. Don't let this condition ruin your life. Have fun and enjoy life as it is very short. The very best of luck to you!!!!
Bless this girl only nine years old and she knows she dyspraxia can make you creative and she shows this through poetry i have dyspraxia i remember these feelings at school and never knew how to express myself correctly i would always be aggresive to people. she probally can teach people stuff about themselves that they never knew

this is a very good, and true feeling of Dyspraxia, I lived with it all of my childhood without knowing the reasons why. it wasn't until I was 30 that I finally found out about being diagnosed when I was 10. and that did screw up my life. if I knew then what I know now, then school might not have been quite so bad, but to not be able to put your fingure on the problem then teachers never did care. they were worse than the kids for picking on me. and made it obvious to the rest of the class.

i cried when i saw this. a hidden problem it is and people judge, people want everyone to be normal but some of us arnt normal and never will be we cant do anything about it. my girl friend broke up with me because of my smarts and kids call me names kids judge me as they do with everyone who cant do somthing normaly, they mock me in football because im un balenced and they mock me for not remembering the plays because short term memry is part of this hidden desize.

WelshyMiikeyy 2 years ago
yeah I had the same problem, to write neat by hand then it really slowed down my handwriting speed as it meant I had to think of the letter several time that I was writing, and then the next letter.
I prefere computers as it is a lot quicker.
