Yes, possibly, if I were only interested in sending MIDI clock from one device to another -- presumably as conveniently controlling and indicating the tempo on the sending device. What this device does is synchronize it's MIDI clock messages with +5 volt pulses that we send to analog modular gear. The Big Knob keeps everything together and looks cool too. Look at my other videos and you'll see some examples of this.
Cool ideas. The LED it has is actually quite bright and is currently attenuated to keep me from going blind. The green is noticeably brighter than the other colors though because it's used for the "1"... I hadn't considered adding a BPM readout, though this would have added significant complexity to the circuit and software design. The software is currently implemented in about 4K of flash RAM. Next up for this prototype is tap tempo (internal and external) and external MIDI synchronization.
Very good. I would add a super bright LED flashing on to the ceiling/wall to help my crappy timing while playing :) and maybe a 7 segment LED readout showing the actual tempo. keep up the good work!

Couldn't you just make one synth the master midi device and link them together with a midi cord?
