@Lizabanana85 I 'm from Scotland and I was there at that time watching the whole thing unfold from the roof top of the hotel do carmo.I have to say the staff from the hotel were amazing.We had no power or water for the duration of the flooding,and the staff evacuated the guests in sixes in their own cars to their sister hotel the Girassol which was situated further west.Did not spoil my holiday in any way......I'm going back to madeira on the 14th feb 2011 for another holiday...I cant wait

i'm from madeira but i'm not living there... next mounth i'm going on holiday and it will be very dificult to see...

fortunally my family is all ok, but i couln't talk with them yet... but i know faja da ovelha is ok. thanks god

I am shocked by the devastation this flood is causing to such a beautiful island. I have family in Funchal, and I am thankful they are all okay. My heart and prayers go out them and all the residents and tourists in Funchal and the surround ing mmoutains. We must all do our bit to help...I have emailed the Red Cross, Oxfam and the DEC about what help they can offer and how I can help. So join me in trying to bring about a world full of caring people.
