Brian wrote this song so it isn't Freddie singing about his illness. Brian wrote it while in the midst of a divorce and the pain of choosing between two women, but yes, it does make you think of Freddie and being sick with aids and the choices he made in life. Regardless of his choices I am so thankful to have all of his music to remember him by, he had a voice and presence like no other,not to mention more talent than anyone before or after him!

The lyrics, like most of Queens songs in the late 80's early 90's sum up the situation Freddie was in, like the words 'Torn between your lover, and the love you leave behind' to me is when he was with his girlfriend but came out as being gay. Also the lyrics ' I'm just the shadow of the man I used to be, and it seems like theres no way out of this for me' is about the terrible disease that killed our friend. So sad :-(
