Got to love Harlan. He can't just say that some of his fans can be real idiots, he has to say he thinks their scum and he despises them. Cuz, you know, most writers will suck up by saying some of them can actually be nice and thoughtful, but not Harlan, no he's too gutsy and honest for that.
Agree completely. And it's funny how many people despise him for always opening his mouth, but frankly it tends to be the truth. I've never heard the guy lie or make anything up. Not that I absolutely agree with him on every single thing in the universe--though I usually do--I enjoy hearing him speak because it's an entirely honest voice. Plus, he's hilarious a lot of the time.
The juxtaposition of Ellison's and Gaiman's polar opposite attitudes to fans is particularly funny. I imagine if you brought them together at a fan convention they would explode like a meeting between matter and anti-matter.
Actually, I think I remember hearing (or at least getting the impression) that the two rather liked each other. Maybe if Harlan Ellison's fans gave him stuff he wouldn't be so grumpy
The way I heard it from an old Science Fiction club president and our college, Ellison really doesn't like his fans and abuses "the groupies" whenever he can. At conventions, back in the day, Ellison was much more interested in getting drunk and getting laid.
He also supposedly doesn't suffer the stupid gladly, so be forewarned.
Have you read "Sandman Vol. 4 - Seasons of the Mist?" Of course they're friends! As for Neil's easy nature, Neil himself has quoted him,"That's your problem, Gaiman! You like EVERYBODY!" I would pay top dollar to sit in at a Q&A with these two guys!
Wow, what is this show? Awesome stuff, love behind the comics kind of stuff. So many celebrities like Ennis and Gaiman. I might check out this BARRAYAR (strange name).
Wow! Two people whose work I admire, and yet I have never seen either of them talking. They make sense on screen as well as on the page. Thanks so much for posting
It is one thing to read a great book, it is another thing to be the one who writes that book.

Harlan doesn't drink at all. Never has. you're probably right about the getting laid part though.
