  • let's see you actually improvise on that

  • whatttttt

  • Since this player was only seventeen years old, I think it is important that the age was shown. It demonstrates that not ALL YOUNG people have gone over to the much less demanding way of playing. Someone is carrying on this great artistic form. Great going, young man. Keep it up!!!

  • Not true, PHS MustangSax Player. It is VERY SIGNIFICANT for the age--in this case--to have been provided. It gives hope to us way older jazz musicians to see that there are some young people picking up the banner and marching forward. Not all have given way to the "easy" way of some contemporary "musicians". ( Quotation marks intended!)

  • Geez Dad, thanks...

  • Freaking amazing. I'm a guitar player and I know nothing about the sax, but I love Coltrane and you nailed this! Keep it up!

  • wow! how did you get the notes?

    I want them to!!

  • That was very good just remember getting the right notes is just step 1. Keep playing it over and over again until you get all of his articulations and inflections.

  • im impressed you went all the way to transcribe it, and for alto instead of tenor. but on a long enough timeline, anyone could play this piece if they spent enough time working on it. how about you compose something yourself instead of playing someone else's music? that's the trouble with jazz musicians these days, they're too used to playing someone else's music and not enough with making their own. same goes for classical players as well.

  • I transcribed part of the solo once (6 choruses). I gave up when trane started playing 16th notes. =p

  • Very nice u young rascal

  • @sirrich0608

    :-)~

  • memorizing solos is fun and really educational, but don't forget to explore your own voice - slow that track wayyyyyy down and try soloing over the changes yourself. Experiment with different combinations of Coltrane's licks and try to come up with your own

  • sounds better on tenor lol but yea man u ripped it

  • Awesome, a memorized transcription. That's so awesome, nobody has ever done that before.

  • Mann..

You're good......I'm just 37 and I might be able to play may be....3 bars out of it..lol...

    Keep it up

  • I hate when people put their age on an instrumental video like it matters. if your good your good no matter what the age and the same rule applies if you suck

  • @PHSMustangSAXPlayer

I think in my case it is not for good or suck, it is for my own growth timeline, if you looked at my whole list of videos, it shows my growth from when I was 13 till now as a 17 yr old. So relax, it is not meant for anything else.

  • @zoftig sorry for defending young musicians like myself. ill make sure not to do it next time

  • thats nice man... pretty good..

  • Very good youngin...keep it up.

  • what a beast!

  • That young fellow is FANTASTIC. I hope he goes on to greater musical things.

  • this trane piece is a measuring piece for all sax players , including me , i couldnt do this until i was 24....great work , keep jammin

  • Hi, I was impressed by your ability to perform songs of this style.

I too am a saxophonist and I have 20 years I am from Peru.

and I would like to know if you have to score "licks" of these ancient and saxophonists Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, but also or can you tell me what kind of daily practice scales.

Thanks to all for the help.

    greetings.

  • Sounding good, all of your hard work will definitely pay off!

  • Nice!

  • Great playing! That is an incredibly difficult song to play. The only thing I would like to hear is improvisation in the solo. It is obviously a transcribed solo from the record - I would like to hear what you sound like.

  • you awesome freak

  • "That's it?"

  • ive watch this like 100 times

  • Lol, holy crap that's Trane's solo! My next tune muahaha.

  • Great job!

  • You've probably gotten this a lot, but nice job.

I've watched your videos since you've started posting and it has been interesting watching you grow.

It has been especially interesting because I am almost exactly your age, have pretty much the exact same setup, and have made those same recordings myself.

You should post some improv. at that tempo, it would really cook.

  • Very nice. You have that feeling. Keep it up!

  • bravo...even ur articulation is sounding like Trane himself, keep it up man!

  • Impressive!

  • amazing, thats a standard to learn , you re in man

  • This guy is a beast!

  • daannnggg!!! holy crap tht must have taken forever to learn

  • daannnggg!!! holy crap tht must have taken forever to play!!!!

  • Aw man, I was hoping for the whole thing!

  • I have that same Smithsonian poster!!

  • I have this transcription It's a great exercise to really get the feel for the tune down. But the tempo you are playing at is very impressive. Can't wait to hear more!
