Michael Jackson was great, no doubt, a great performer, but he is not in the same charismatic and iconic class as Elvis and Ali, IMO. I believe Ali stated that he was the 'Elvis of boxing', he could have said the 'Jackie Wilson'!
Also, didn't Ali cease to wear the robe Elvis gave him after he lost the fight to Ken Norton?
True icons are surely born pretty for a reason, MJ was rather ugly. Ali and Elvis were superbly handsome men. Imagine if Elvis had ears like BJ Thomas or if Ali had typical
negro features, acknowledging that he had Irish heritage, but! Why were these two greats so damn physically perfect, to perpetuate their iconic status?
@cardigan3000 Elvis was Never a racist man one day e was i a car showroom looking at some caddilacs he saw a black lady looking in he went out asked her if she likes one n the lady said oh yes if the good Lord wants mwe to have one n He bought her two he wqas supportig many underprivillaged ppl in his life both black n white that is what hmanity should be
@cardigan3000 Ali loved Elvis. After Ali was reinstated into boxing after being banned for dodging the draft, Elvis had a special Robe made for him. On the back it said: The peoples Champ. Ali wore it with pride to his fights. Ali spoke about his friendship with Elvis many times. Here is one of his comments: "Elvis had a robe made for me. Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you'd want to know." Nice words for Ali, the peoples champ.
They were friends and when Elvis died Ali said he was the most sincere and humblest man he ever met.Politically, they were polar opposites, Ali a radical Muslim that avoided military service, and Presley who voluntered to serve and was more of a southern conservative. But they had many similarities, very poor childhoods, self made men of undeniable talents and both admired by men and women around the globe. Two originals and never to be repeated.
@Patriot751 Maybe they were both poor but Elvis didn't have a bunch of Rich White business men grooming him to be the Champion of the world. Elvis was driving trucks and suffering rejection at every turn until his manager finally got his music played on the radio.
This is the only time I've ever seen Ali acting normal. All the other times he was putting on the act that he'd do for the press. It's nice to see this.
Talking about Elvis? He didn't say a word about him, just acknowledged that he knew him. Didn't sound too excited about it either. Elvis was probably more excited about knowing him.
@IStennaI Everybody knows who Elvis is. Even now, 35 years after he died, he`s still selling millions each year, and is probably the most famous rock star ever.
@Yellyist Elvis will Never be forgoten so long as there is life on this earth Ali will not be forgoten either for a long time But Elvis Is the man the world loved the most
@Yellyist No, according to all of the journalists and sports figures and even music figures, Ali was known by name and sight all over the World. Elvis does and did have a huge following, but Ali is "the Greatest" . Even Waylon Jennings said Ali was the man he admired the most. Can't beat old Waylon either when it comes to real country. Everyone should read Waylon's autobiography, it has all kinds of insights into people's lives, people we will never really know. saj
@shutthefuckuploser ur wrong. but all three are very well recognised all over the world, for Ali and Michael Jackson had reall talent, ass far as talent goes, unique.
@21farenheit you obviously do not know much about the depth of their relationship. Elvis and Ali were very close during the 1972-1975 period when Ali used to be more present in Vegas. Ali was simply protecting the privacy of his friend and did not want to publicly speak about their association. He did the same exact thing when asked before about some powerful politician and claimed that it was someone else.
In a later interview (can't seem to find it on here... it was here at one stage because I've seen it), Ali proudly tells of how Elvis was staying with him at the camp and the press were there interviewing him and had no idea that Elvis was asleep in one of the cabins behind them... I wonder what this interviewer thought when he found that out!
@jennytmaher ..Yes , I've read about that story so many times from different sources. I would luv to find that footage (if there is any ) or Ali telling the story Himself , about Elvis at the camp^^
@Sandu1982 because the woman who screamed is a MK Slave, consider for a moment the odd thing the other woman said about having a 6 foot, oil, canvas painting and you suddenly start to understand.
@nitramgnal I met Ali in the stairway of a lobby in a hotel in St. Louis in 1989. He was HUGE and just wonderful. What a fabulous smile and he said, "you are very pretty." I dearly love Ali.
A photo tells alot, the photo of Ali and Elvis for instance. Elvis clearly drugged up and the great Ali seems somewhat humbled by the King.
The photo I refer to is the shadow boxing one, btw.
