I ask Microsoft, who do you think is going to buy Microsoft Flight? The general gaming community won't be interested because Flight will be (incorrectly) seen as a flight simulator and dedicated Flight Simulator fans will ignore Flight thanks to its unfaithful game-like discourse. Microsoft are blatantly trying to appeal to the mass market and break away from their niche - this will prove to be a huge mistake. Flight will be an unsuccessful sell-out venture.
If you can allow world-wide flight, even if it's not as detailed as Hawaii, I won't mind paying up a "DLC" for that feature. I know the game itself will be free, so a DLC to allow that would be ok for me. Other DLCs to provide detailed locations (such as Hawaii) would be great for those who wants that, but most of us coming from FSX would really appreciate world-wide flights, no matter they aren't as detailed

@Scuzza344 with a PC you can upgrade it to meet demands and add more components to it. Xbox is an xbox. PC's have keyboards and you can add much more flight sim related controllers such as joysticks, throttle quadrants, rudder pedals, multiple screens. An Xbox has a controller.
@HelluvaBadShot Good point, they could always make the flight sim related stuff compatible with xbox, keyboards are already compatible with xbox. I just thought the graphics would be miles better on xbox than pc, unless you have an extremely expensive graphics card, with a ton of Ram.
Guys u should wait untill release date. As a Beta participant I can really say, this game is very good for a F2P. The graphics look much better than in this video and it makes a lot of fun flying the Icon A5. I guess you won't be disappointed. Wait and see!

I am actually a member of the Microsoft Flight Beta and I can tell you that the graphics on the game are far better than FSX, Microsoft Flight uses better Anti Aliasing and runs lag free on my rig unlike FSX which needed tweaking. Games for windows live is far better than Gamespy. I had FS2004, FSX and now a tester of Flight and I can tell you once more content is released this game will be very good :)
@MotoHarmer I think for the time period we are in now, these graphics are horrible. Much worse than FSX with programs like REX and some terrain/scenery updates. And as far as I know, the content they will be releasing for this game are only location additions. Not scenery updates so right now, the scenery what you get, is what you are stuck with.
@3snowyman Absolutely correct, I have FSX with REX HD Overdrive and it blows Flight out of the water! The only improvement I saw was that the angle of precipitation has been corrected. It follows the wind now or at least it appeared to. And your right, there will be NO addons from freeware developers for this, no SDK, no addons. LM has ownership of that now along with MS ESP 1.0 which is FSX renamed for licensing. Bottom line is they fucked us for the money, BF3 is better as a game!
@SimXLive I was not familiar with REX and am wondering is it worth the cost of admission? I just went to their site, and it is $37. U.S. I think--that is more than i paid for FSX Deluxe . I have a good setup for flight sims---Hotas Cougar, and TrackIR Pro 4. My comp specs in brief--GTX 580 ((1536 GB) x2 SLI and i7950 cpu. I have all that running through a 50" 1080P Plasma TV. For that price I would want to see a big jump in graphical quality. One other sim I like is 'Lock on' platinum.

All the other missing functionality? This isn't a simulator. It's a dumb-downed flying game, design to a cross platform (hence minimal keyboard commands and absence of Windows interface).
@JasonJason210 There is actually rudder trim and Aileron trim as I used it on my Joystick, I am sure the Advanced weather feature will be in the official release of the game, I can admit that it is not a simulator game anymore, its just a simple flying game. One positive is that the game now features multiplayer on Games for windows live which means we will have far less connection issues like gamespy did.
@MotoHarmer I also have the beta and you are so wrong it's not even funny. I design scenery and program SimConnect so I am in a much better position to judge. The reason the FPS are so high is that there is nothing to load, the scenery is devoid of everything FSX, just taking out the AI speeds it up and there is NO AI at all. The jetways are the exact same ones from FSX, I found trees in the roads, you can ONLY start in the air, the list of fuck ups in this is endless, it's a TOY!!!
Prepar3D is the one remaining possibility for continuing the experience of flight simulation at the level FSX users are used to. I am an FSX user, and have purchased all the best add-ons for it, with regard both to scenery and aircraft. FSX development has stopped dead as far as Microsoft are concerned.

@JasonJason210 But P3D will never be for sale for entertainment purposes, it's stated right on their site, which means it will NEVER be sold to the general public. Besides $500 for a sim you already have. P3D IS FSX with only minor changes mostly to the MP issues(check the videos at LM). But you'll never get yours hands on that unless you work in the industry. So stick with FSX and addons or go to XP10, these are really the only options available to all true flight simmers.
@SimXLive You're probably right. The best thing to do is stick with what you've got for now, and see how things develop over the next couple of years. However, you're wrong about Prepar3d. They'll sell it to anyone. You can buy a developers license and pay $10 a month. That's what most people are doing. But at the moment there is absolutely no reason to do so.

Looking at the screenshots they posted over the last year, it looked like it was a totally redone FSX, but it looks like an arcade game. I dont knwo whats your problem with that... cause you just have to sign up for it (allready needed for FSX) and after that you can play off or online.. just as you used to be. Its just a way to register the bought games. So the only downside: you cant resell your game... not needed with a F2P titel ;)

For example, there are only 33 keyboard commands, compared to the hundreds FSX had, and those 33 includes 3 commands for the doors! No advanced weather, no failures, no realism sliders, only five or so camera views. It's a boring, gamey interface, aimed at the console gamer. In three words: Severely Dumbed Down.
@bushpilot223 The difference is that in Flight if there are no windmills there probably never will be, in FSX if there are no windmills you just start up GMAX (free) and make one, read the SDK, set a few parameters and you have windmills in your scenery along with the pride of having built something cool that other simmers might like (btw AVSIM has windmills) . You will never get this from Flight, it's a kiddy game with kiddy map and kiddy treasure, it's total trash!
Nope, it's not the whole state. It will come with Oahu and that's it. If you want the rest of the state, guess what? You have to buy it, microtransaction-style. I'm not making this up.
This is going to FAIL bigtime. You get the big island of Oahu for free with 2 or 3 flyable aircraft. Everything else must be purchased through Microsoft via microtransactions. There will be no SDK and any 3rd party content must go through Microsoft and they will take a portion of your profits like iTunes. This is more like a game for consoles.

The problme with the Xbox 360 is that it reads data off a dvd. Running something like FSX would require a blue ray disk and a faster CPU/GPU.
FSX was deisgned to be read off a hardrive.

Looking at the screenshots they posted over the last year, it looked like it was a totally redone FSX, but it looks like an arcade game. They said in a press statement that this would still be a simulator but without "sim" in the name. If this is still true, it must be a very dumbed down sim.

I dont knwo whats your problem with that... cause you just have to sign up for it (allready needed for FSX) and after that you can play off or online.. just as you used to be. Its just a way to register the bought games. So the only downside: you cant resell your game... not needed with a F2P titel ;)

I wish they would make another good WW2 flight sim like IL-2 but with better graphics and improved gameplay. i will still probably play this cause I do like just flying around and takeoff and landing stuff, but come on, I want to shoot down a MIG circa 1945 with a BF109!!!

Cant wait for this game--though I'm a bit disappointed.. looks 90% the same as FSX.. actually to tell you the truth the only DIFFERENCE I saw was the moving windmills... lol... but I guess it's okay, I mean, the game is free. For example, there are only 33 keyboard commands, compared to the hundreds FSX had, and those 33 includes 3 commands for the doors! No advanced weather, no failures, no realism sliders, only five or so camera views. It's a boring, gamey interface, aimed at the console gamer. In three words: Severely Dumbed Down.

@bushpilot223 The difference is that in Flight if there are no windmills there probably never will be, in FSX if there are no windmills you just start up GMAX (free) and make one, read the SDK, set a few parameters and you have windmills in your scenery along with the pride of having built something cool that other simmers might like (btw AVSIM has windmills) . You will never get this from Flight, it's a kiddy game with kiddy map and kiddy treasure, it's total trash!

This is going to FAIL bigtime. You get the big island of Oahu for free with 2 or 3 flyable aircraft. Everything else must be purchased through Microsoft via microtransactions. There will be no SDK and any 3rd party content must go through Microsoft and they will take a portion of your profits like iTunes. This is more like a game for consoles.
