I love DEVO's creative fluidity, as ironic as that may sound....also, to throw in my shallow 2 cents worth..Jerry looks great in a ponytail. He should grow it back. :)
This is definitely the oddest Devo single by far. Apparently, this only got played once on MTV on a segment they had at the time called Trash Or Smash? in which viewers could call in and pick which new videos to add to the rotation. Sadly enough, as much as I personally love this song and video, this seemed the perfect video for MTV to "trash". A rather ironic slap in the face to Devo after the early years of the band having brought MTV much of their early success.
This is easily the worst DEVO video ever, and after reading the commentary I know why. I'm surprised how Kraftwerk-esque the beat sounds. It makes me wonder what would have happened if Alan Myers was replaced with Wolfgang Flur.
devo is a great band they can really show us even after there collapse in 1984 they can comew back with something great and this is one of the best on this album devo really makes the music and the changes the world
I do really love this song. I actually found out about it at a record swap. I now own it on vinyl. Its fun to mix with Meat Beat Manifesto. :) It bumps on a system too.
I think I like Devo so much because they span my own wide taste in music - I love Uncontrollable Urge, Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA...and I love this. Good artists keep trying new things. Just look at all the film and TV scoring they are doing now (under the name Mutato Muzika).
good review. DEVO was the first band to make music for the film media, sure others had clips to promote their songs, but it is a fact that DEVO always had films to display their songs, long before Mtv.
Im glad they admitted in the commentary that they copied their track from the 82 bollywood hit disco dancer!! Bollywood finally getting credit they deserve!
definitely a different style! an extreme exit stage left. yet it's catchy and grows on you. makes me dance and cook. i'm off to create me a spud dish.
Holy crap, why can't it still be the 80's?

many devo-ties out there. They are the BOMB!

Not sure if you had to have lived thru the
70's and 80's to get how this is railing
on disco and 'new wave' at the same time.
Priceless!

Don't get me wrong, I love Devo, bet this song was definitely ironic in a completely unintended way!

DEVO is so underrated, it should have gotten more fame, apart from their few but fanatic followers, myself included.

I can respect DEVO for making this song. its just like any other band that progressed and "matured" ie. Kiss, Iron Maiden.

That Devo girl dancer in the background on the left with the Flapper haircut is hot!
And she knows it too!

How dare you to call it ordinary! I´ve seen it in 1988 and by that time, it was necessary. Duty now for the future!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I was just talkng to a workmate about Devo and he'd never heard of this, despite being a bit of a fan. Then I realised why - it's pretty ordinary!

Disco Dancer is an awesome Devo song.
Devo are beyond staying in a limited range of music, which is why i love them. they express themselves freely, as all should.

This song is great, but not sure about that video! It's ok though I can listen w/o watching.

this sounds very new order influenced. I like new order, but devo should have never done this style... it's just wrong for them.

No idea who they were - probably hired on extras. But oddly enough, when this video came out my then-GF looked like one of the devo dancers.
