as you know, over time, water begins to eat away at rock, forming voids under ground.

and again, as time goes on, the void gets bigger and bigger.

sink holes like this one have to be instigated in order for it to collapse. constant vibrations from the surface above (construction zones, constant traffic, yadda yadda), or even a heavy ass building sitting on top of it, could compromise the structural integrity.

Thanks, I thought he was describing a rise then slump. A vacume may have formed and sucked down the area. The sides do not look wet though or rough like a cave in. Hope they don't start dumping trash in it.
