  • What lineage, people? Kids that train kung fu in normal schools can be picked to go to the temple and to train, later they are given the opportunity either to stay and teach or gtfo. About this show: those people are chosen by: their master because of their skills and second, by the director if they combine a little acting. This show is not just kung fu, its acting also, but its still impressive. These athletes and showmen you call them, they learn shaolin kung fu, these are just demonstrations.

  • whats all this word salad everyone is a know it all STFU. It didnt faze that fool hes a monk.

  • i actually met a lineage from shaolin in vietnam..he's 70 years old and his grandpa use to be in shaolin..becuz of the revolution his grandpa got away from shaolin and later taught his son shaolin martial arts...but his son end up killing a goverment official's son..so he had to move to vietnam while the grandpa from shaolin stayed..so then the son past down the shaolin martial art to the now 70 years old master...his name is Fei Long

  • Fantastic showman and athletes, but don't be fooled. Shaolin Gong Fu is not pretty and it is not a circus...The real Shaolin Gong Fu is violent, Erratic and very ugly but is is very, very effective.

  • Sure, some of the art survived. A few of those who fled to Taiwan, Hong-Kong, Macau, and other places away from the Mainland did teach their art as it was meant to be taught (and learned for that matter). But the acts you are seeing in these videos are not of such an art. These folks are not of a direct Shaolin Gong Fu lineage. Sure it's impressive wushu and feats of the human body/mind, but this masquerade as some kind of unbroken lineage in Shaolin gong fu is a big lie. And so many buy it

  • What I meant is, what you see today is an attempt at re-creating that which was lost and this types of Wushu really started in the early 80s. Don't believe me, well go read up on the subject from sources that are not connected with martial arts schools, so-called masters, etc. You will see that the temple was empty for a good 30 years (at least). 90% of actually burned down in 1928. During the Revolution, masters were hunted down and executed. Others fled and never taught again.

  • This isn't Shaolin! Know your history. If you know the history of Shaolin within the last 100 years or so, you will know that the true was destroyed by the many factions/dynasties/coups within the last century or so. It's a shame, but the real art was lost forever. Very few original writings remain (burned, taken) and most of the masters were hunted down and killed by government officials. Very few lived and even fewer taught after this. The Shaolin of the early 80s. History folks.

  • MMA is a type of training, so are all types of traditional martial arts. One is a sport that conditions its people/fighters whatnot, for Sport combat. I know there are MMA fighters of a high caliber that can fight in the street etc, but guess what? They dont fight in the street as they would in the ring. Traditional martial arts still exist for a reason. They work if taught right and absorbed right. Period, Its not the art itself but the person teaching and the student learning. Adapt, overcome

  • @Bastion83 this basic principle is something all real martial arts, regardless of where they come from or how old they are teach. The human body hasn't changed in many millenia, and there are only so many ways to move. For the record, anyone saying you cant use practiced moves under duress of combat has never been in combat. Part of why you drill movements is to make them muscle memory. They wont be perfect because real life isnt ever ideal but I'm sorry I'm tired of idiots slamming TMA.

  • wish i grew up in a shaolin temple lol the life style seems a lil hard but its definatly well worth it

  • I am not a waster. All I think is that hurting yourself on purpose, it is rather silly. I am not planning to force them to stop doing it if they want to it, then they can/

  • @SabretoothSnowMan thy dont hurt themself they perform this wend they are ready and already master it

  • I would love to think that they could do something more useful with thier lives that this.

  • @SabretoothSnowMan kk well what do u do thts useful in ur live?

  • @MrGamerBazer - I have an medical condition that makes it very hard for me to do very much with my life, so I cannot help what I cannot do/ I have a problem with my heart/

I have however lieved to the best of my ability, and am not selfish or abusive to other people.

I have tried to get into the medical profession, but could not due to my health issues. I wanted to be a doctor.

  • @MrGamerBazer I am seriously ill, and am probably going to die; but I have in my time trie dto help a lot of people and have saved some peoples lives.

  • @SabretoothSnowMan if u have a medical condition then idk why your talking about anyone in ur state....

  • @SabretoothSnowMan what is useful in life that is what you should ask yourself my friend. not to offend you in anyway but you should try mastering shaolin it mite surprise you.

    kind regards

  • Why do they need to use this self injurious behaviour?

  • Have to say... well I don't actually... but, anyway, love martial arts, boxing, MMA, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan films, whatever. BUT never really enjoyed watching these Shaolin displays, quite apart from any real/not real arguments I just find it a bit boring to watch, which is a shame. I think these guys could do with some help from a decent choreographer for their theatrical shows 'cos they just look a bit shit. Flash; but staging wise, routines... most are at one frantic pace, looks bland.

  • he can break every bone of u body and he dont get hurt

  • Why can't we all just respect all the arts? Not everyone wants to join the UFC.And not everyone wants does MMA.

  • Hit him hard between the ears and run away !

  • Give me the stik i will hit them and see what happens. I will knock the shit out of them. It is all how you hit.

  • its nice to see a shaolin angel on his art

  • Well, they still defend themselves on the streets pretty well. If you look at the reality of it, chances are if you come to a UFC fighter with a knife, they wouldn't be able to do anything due to lack of experience. If these monks break metal on their heads through intense meditation, when someone tries to smash a pipe over their head, they'll be able to keep their consciousness at least right? If you attack a Shaolin monk without killing him in, he'll rip out your throat and feed it to you.

  • very nice

  • because ordinary wood breaks if you hit too hard on the enemy.. thus a Chinese innovation...

a flexible one.... lots of dumb and ignorant comment below this...

  • I ordered this DVD from Amazon (US release). When I received it the video qualtiy wasn't that good and the audio was extremely low. Has anyone else received it like this ?

  • who cares if they are real monks or not, its still pretty awesome what they can do =P

  • o_O ROFLMAOFUNNY? DO YOU LAUGH AT ALL VIDEOS!? You're funny. These guys are nothing but poor magicians. Cheap ones too. Who uses plastic rods instead of real wood? Who uses softwood that's already been splinted? It's unseen to the naked eye but believe me, I've witness it. I took an example of the broken piece and examine it. Woods don't break like that the way it does.

  • you ask funny question LOL check out my name "roflmaofunny" of course i laugh at everything. but thank you for the reality check captain ;)

  • u're welcome captain ;)

  • FAGS!

  • jajja esos palos ya stan rotos

  • The above is just an endurence & (Gut) test - a prerequisite for every Shaolin disciples. Ofcourse real combat is different so don't twist it ok? Try to attack any of these guys with a spear then! You will be bitten. Smiles.

  • kool

  • They'll come in 10 days to perform in my city....Can't wait xD

  • They arent real monks they are fakes, believe me i know real monks when i see them

  • Ok dumbass.

  • I wasnt even talking to you fuck off you freak

  • I'm a freak because I spoke the truth? Face it, I called you out. These comments are in the public. You weren't speaking to me, but I am speaking to you. You are a dumb ass.

  • Ok im a dumb ass keep it to yourself! It takes a dumb ass to reply to my comment

  • That's one way of seeing it. But I'd rather not piss off one of the monks at night in a dark alley... some of his rehearsed movements may turn out to be very useful... and I'd be the victim.

  • @brianstreet54 I agree with you...rehearsed movements become reflexes after years of rehearsing. A boxer for example will throw a correct punch anytime because he rehearsed it thousands of times. Maybe a monk wouldn't be able do bend a spear with his neck on the street BUT his body will still be very resistant due to the fact he is used to being hit and his blows will be very strong.

  • Idiot. They are real fighters. It's not just show. Bruce Lee fought in real fights. He was challenged on the set. Most of the extras in Enter The Dragon were street thugs.

  • those spears r made of bamboo and bamboo is really flexible and those r real spear heads!

  • BTW real spears arent made of bamboos. You're an idiot once again. Sorry you're twice the idiot that I've ever seen. Who would use bamboo for spears? Maybe your mom would when she whoop your ass cuz bamboos hurt like hell. OK you may be right, real spears aren't made of bamboos but these monk's spears do. Their staff are made of eastern white pine. Look at that idiot trying to look tough by waving his arms around.

  • I think that real monks do that exercise with bamboo spears. the fact that they are flexible makes of them a very powerful weapon. these are not real monks, even if their training is extremely hard. as you say, they probably use another kind of wood for the Qigong demonstrations (where they break it by hitting on the arms or heads, legs, back, ...) =)

  • I agree that bamboo are useful but only for training. In real battles you never ever ever want to use a bamboo spear vs a hardwood spear because bamboos can't stab through a person's body. I'd feel safer if I had a real spear and safest if I had a gun. One that can blow someone's head off :D. Real Monks probably don't exist anymore cuz we're too caught up with technologies to devote all of our time to train. No present day monk would sacrific their time like the ones 2000+ years ago.

  • LOL yes of course a gun is more powerful xD but I still prefer a fight with spears! martial monks still exist, there is not only the shaolin temple. I know 2 other temples where kung fu is practiced and they are not touristic places. :D at least not yet !!

  • you're wrong on every thing you just said. wow...

  • @siumingpakua The whole idea is to rehearse the moves so many times that in a fight they will become instinctive. Monks like these have been defending themselves for hundreds of years, and they are still around. So i suppose that means they know what they're doing.

  • @siumingpakua you are an idiot , they would kill any ufc guy within seconds . ufc has rules. ufc fighters train for years , the best for decades - shaolin monks train their whole life. Enough said.

  • @siumingpakua Thousands of years of knowledge, expertise and patience, and you call it useless? You, my friend, are the epiphany of modern mans inability to accept the greatness of others.

  • @siumingpakua You clearly have a limited knowledge of neurology and martial arts. The human mind can be trained to maintain focus while under attack. You will only lose access to fine motor skills if your brain is overcome with cortisol as a result of stress; if you have the mental fortitude to remain calm, cortisol is not released, and you can access the neurons in your neocortex just fine. FYI Shaolin Monks could give less of a shit about the damn UFC.

  • @siumingpakua Why? you ask... well lets see, oh that's right MONKS ARE PACIFICSTS DIPSHIT! Monk training, especially Shaolin Monk training is different than simple martial arts training, Everything they learn is usefull, and psycology? they train since they are 5 years old MENTALLY and physically so over 30+ years would stop you from shutting down in a fight, it works for Marines and other Millitary and in ALOOOT less time, and nice name drop "iron body technique" stop watching bad chinese films

  • @siumingpakua youre a complete idiot if you think all that shaolin monks do is rehearse for their shows. from strenghtening training where they literally strenghten their whole body (fist fighting the wall, standing on their head for an hour or more) and of course fighting tecniques and sparing.

  • @siumingpakua i dis agree my friend, if you practice something for a long amount of time it becomes normal to you but that is not the thing that will help you win in a fight on that part you are right,

it is practice and knowing that you will suicide that is what we are training for that the skill and the mind are one at all time even if someone attacked you it will not be any different to training because the 2 will effect you equally. in the end inner peace is the most important factor.

  • @siumingpakua lol that's funny seriously I'm rolling on the floor hahaha!! so many experts and yet none of you can do these things. I will make this as simple as possible for you. You don't see these things in MMA because people will die this is a demonstration of skill nothing more it is to show off the skill of the performer, but the skill of iron shirt and iron palm is very real. Kung fu was develop for war and to defend yourself against attackers trying to kill you, MMA is just a sport.

  • @siumingpakua it's not rehersed movements that you will need to use in a figh, your reflexes change once you learn different types of physical arts, get your head out of your ass and stop talking shit, UFC rely on muscles monks mental power destroyes them, good day.

  • @siumingpakua lol you have no idea :D:D
