Another thing though, flow of oxygen to the brain probably has little to do with this. That would not really explain how he does not get deep cuts under his feet and starts bleeding (slow heartrate would slow down bleeding, but not stop it entirely) while walking on the glass. He emphasizes one part of the trick to take your mind off of any other aspect, brilliant.
if your heart beat is that slow, medics will reanimate you because you are crossing jordan. it's more likely that he raced it up to a good 180 in the start, increasing the blood pressure on the way up so that it can technically be felt ANYWHERE, and then whilst the pulse got slower, the blood pressure decreased remarkably, making it very hard even for trained doctors to keep feeling it. I've witnessed that effect as an intern at the medical department of the military, it seems most likely to me.

Anyone can do it, you can probably type glass walking on youtube and you'll learn how it's done. Penn and teller had a "Bullshit" show where this was shown.
It is sugar glass. The big pieces are real glass and inspected by the audience member. Derren avoids the big bits. The little bits are harder to inspect and so the audience member is duped.
A great showman sure enough. Once you consider though that it is indeed possible to walk on broken glass without cutting yourself (not saying you can't cut yourself, but it's possible not to) you start noticing little things. Like where at the end he "cringes" in pain he's curling his foot to hold on to a bit of glass. Great showmanship though.
I remember walking on glass... Rather than being in the state of cerebral anoxia I put myself in the state of hypnosis reducing the amount of pain I would feel. The only downside was that I would encounter minor bleeding. I did have a video up on YouTube, within one months time I removed it.

I would have bought this one but for two reasons. One I don't think the brain can go that long without O2 but I'm not sure. What I do know however is that if it worked how he said then the moment he restarted his blood flow he would start bleeding from all his wounds which he had non.

Walking on glass is an old and simple trick. Broken glass generally lies flat. You just move it around with the sole of your foot until it is almost completely flat, then slowly and carefully put your weight on it. The sharp points are then all horizontal and harmless. This is just a rehash of this old technique. The 'heart stopping' is another old routine which I have seen many times. 'The Great Prestoni' is not a real performer, but merely a character from Dick Van Dyke!
One technique is to press an object under your upper arm against your side, thus reducing the blood flow to the arm. I've tried it myself, and it works easily.
That is the technigue he uses here! As other posters have pointed out, there is a suspicious bulge under his arm. Some of the other techniques of 'stopping your heart' include distraction and social pressure, such as the performer clicking his fingers to the slowing beat he wants the subject to report, and the subject complying. I have seen magicians do that successfully even when the subject was checking her own pulse!

Sorry to take away the mysticism from you but this is simple physics he stands on only the small bits of glass to spread out his weight on as many different pieces of glass as possible so that the amount of weight that he puts on each piece of glass is not enough to pierce his skin.

Stopping your pulse is actually quite easy trick to preform. Just put a tennis ball at your armpit and when you want your "heart to stop", you just squeeeeeze your arm against your body.

Walking on glass is an old and simple trick. Broken glass generally lies flat. You just move it around with the sole of your foot until it is almost completely flat, then slowly and carefully put your weight on it. The sharp points are then all horizontal and harmless. This is just a rehash of this old technique. The 'heart stopping' is another old routine which I have seen many times. 'The Great Prestoni' is not a real performer, but merely a character from Dick Van Dyke!

That is the technigue he uses here! As other posters have pointed out, there is a suspicious bulge under his arm. Some of the other techniques of 'stopping your heart' include distraction and social pressure, such as the performer clicking his fingers to the slowing beat he wants the subject to report, and the subject complying. I have seen magicians do that successfully even when the subject was checking her own pulse!

After I smashed the bottle i felt all the shards, and they were sharp pieces of glass. When Istood on his head you could feel the glass crunch underneath his head.
