No, he was initially diagnosed with Throat cancer in 1997 and recovered from it, only to be diagnosed with Lung cancer in about 2000. Lung cancer was the official cause of death.

Anyone who's read either of his books knows his little gift for ad-libbing and using malapropisms (substituting a word for another word with a similar sound, usually making no sense but resulting in a comedic effect), and this is another fine little example. Of course he meant "micro-leaf filter."
