  • your so true I'm kinda new to buy manga but i love viz big of dragon ball!! Having it in your hand is way cooler than reading it on a screen. I'm behind you 100%

  • Definitely agree with you. Although, yes, switching to digital saves the company a ton of money, it's not what people want to buy. Plus, I also read somewhere that if you DO sign up online, you can only keep the issues for a year, and then they get deleted. Not cool. It makes me just want to continue buying the physical copies of books whenever I can scrape up some money and schlepp myself off to the nearest bookstore. That limits me to the few series that I'm actually going to pay for.

  • @ CodeProvider A small part of me is going to die if I see physical manga turn into nothing more than a relic of the past. I cannot pinpoint the reason why, but I am significantly more entertained reading physical manga than I am reading it online, or otherwise on a screen. And another thing: Why do Viz and Jump think that they'll make better sales by putting their product on ipads and computers (which not everyone has, or can afford) than they will by selling $7 - $10 physical books?

  • 100% agree with everything you said!!! i hate this whole digital movement!!! manga loses its appeal online, the only manga i read online is hunter x hunter cause the long hiatuses. FUCK YOU SHONEN JUMP, DON'T KILL MANGA!!!

  • @Code

2:25 Actually Funimation & NISAmerica as of the past year have released Limited Edition Boxsets which generally consist of:

    *Blu-Ray & DVD Combo Packs

*The Complete Series/All The Episodes + extras like OVA Episodes, Interviews, Commercials, Etc

    *A Chipboard Artbox

*Freebies like a hankercheif, calender, keychain, artbook etc

AniplexUS does this too but theirs are a bit more pricey @_@

  • @GinkoArtEtc lol well i never hated on funimation :P

  • I completely agree bro! Your lemonade example was simple but brilliant. And I love how you pretty much ended it with "sell shit, that people wanna buy." XD complete epic discussion and rant code! Thumbs up.

  • @funclip31 thanks a lot dude, good to see you back!

  • The fact that Bandai is going online is stupid, because not many buy Bandai volumes as much as they buy something like Shonen Jump or Yen Press. It's not as well-known - I suspect that in a couple of years Bandai will crash, burn and die.

  • I was actually planing on buying a subscription of SJ back in November/December but when i read that they were going to stop printing the physical copies i quickly changed my mind,as you stated in one of your comments, im not about to contribute to the death of physical media and will never do so. Going out and buying a product that i can hold in my hand and see visibly sitting on a shelf makes me feel that i have actually purchased a product.

  • like a cheaper omnibus.....i just hate the fact of anything digital....cuz i like having it in my hand...

  • your right dude! digital is bullshit when they charge for it. i liked the lemonade referance.smart thinking!

  • Fuck yes! This is what I wanted someone to say. I absolutely HATE digital books (any form), You had some really strong arguments as well. I hope they listen, because I will NEVER support digital Manga.

  • I totally agree!! For me I LOVE reading the manga when its in my hands cause like its in my hands!! I turn the pages and im happy when i know Im almost done!! And then I have to go to a book store or online to get the next volume! But of Digital manga its okay from time to time if you want to try sonething out. But i like haveing the manga in my hands!!

  • there is no reason for a person who already reads their manga from sites like mangafox to subscribe to this new site. the big three is already translated online the week of release anyway. Viz needs to reformat the way they release physical media instead of eliminating it bit by bit

  • Totally agree, but. I really loved the Omnibus of H.O.T.D from yen-press IN COLOR, not in BEAUTIFUL COLOR but in SO MUCH GOOD COLOR that the omnibus made the manga more enjoyable, plus I love the NGE manga that had nice outer feel and included some interviews. so I would be pissed if manga went digital if it did not include any good extra's. Digital paid services need to give something that free services do not have that can pull in the customer.

  • I understand where you're coming from about the digital distribution, and I for one am already signed up for Weekly Jump Alpha. But for some, digital is the way to go. I for one am almost out of places to put all of the print versions of Jump in my room. Having them digital would save me a lot of space. I hate the fact that you only get to keep the weekly issues for a year, but physical graphic novels are still coming out too; I don't think, no matter how it gets to be, that they'll ever stop.

  • I totally agree. I ordered One Piece 7-9 omnibus thinking it would be good........it was exactly like the single volumes! All it was was One Piece smashed together in one book.

  • Awesome video! I agree with almost everything you said! The big three omnibuses are mainly for people who wanna catch up to the series faster with less money. Although I wouldn't buy it because I like the 1 volumes better... Anyway great discussion I hope this alpha shit ends... btw does that mean there not gonna produce anymore of the original books such as psyren or onepiece?

  • rurouni kenshin ftw! my fav manga :)

  • i want LEMONADE know!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great video, a very coherent and precise point.

  • @sirmel11 thanks for the idea

  • Also, i got the Fullmetal alchemist 3-in-1's and was really disappointed.

  • Your analogy ROCKS.

  • If all manga an anime go digital. God forbid! We can always pull a Chia and just import them from japan in Japanese.

  • Don't knock it until you try it that's what I always say! The main complaint was that people chose to read it online because it wasn't out quick enough and they were impatient so I don't see anything wrong with trying to at least get it out quicker.

Would you rather go back to the days of the 90's with THOSE manga releases because that's the way you sound like you want it to go? As far as I can see there is more variety than ever before and that is definitley a good thing!

  • Theres a Difference - When you reading online = its illegal When you buy it from shonen jump = your supporting the industry

  • hate digital.

how can you show off digital manga in your manga collection.

  • @thedumbotaku film a computer

  • These companies do not know how to make money! If we (manga and anime fans) were to be control of the company then we would do a better job. PLUS FREE MANGA FOR US LOOOOOL

  • Not into the whole digital manga if only because the quality and experience for me changed so much when i started getting physical copies. I don't know, I feel like I couldn't go back. Anime and manga already feels (depending) as bare bones as you can get, digital is only making it worse. If it helps them stay afloat though, not much you can do if people aren't buying.

Also jump cuts are good. I do them when I'm not feeling lazy but they do help keep awkward moments to a minimum.

  • i no its fuckin bull shit i hate digital manga because theres just something about watching your collection grow FUCK YOU DIGITAL READERS

  • sorry but if you are a fan of shonen jump titles and you live in the us or canada and are not supporting alpha than sorry but you are nor a fan. Yeah I get why people are sad and pissed off that the print version of sj was cancelled, but let's face it, if the magazine isn't selling enough so that viz is losing money on it, why should they continue printing it? Besides with alpha you get chapters just 2 weeks after japan and they are in much better quality in terms of translation and especially..

  • @superotakushow in the quality of the actual images compared to the scanlations, wich are scans of the crappy paper of the weekly jump, that are just cleaned with photoshop and are so blacked out that lots of details is lost. there was an image comparison between the two in a forum and on the scanlation noah the ship in one piece was basically just black and you couldn't see any detail on it, while on the alpha version you clearly could see every little detail in all of the wood floors etc.

  • @superotakushow And just fo 25.99$ a year you get 48! issues with 6 different manga series in it and interviews etc. That is nothing compared how much content you get for this price. And now all you people fo is bitching and saying oh they go digital fuck them I'm not gonna support anything and just get everything illegaly. Sorry but that thought is pathethic. You are reading it online anyway and you dont want support the official legal ways to get this stuff. Besides there will

  • @superotakushow still be printed copies of all this titles available. And just because other series got canceled like reborn etc shouldn't be a reason to not support anything. If those titles are not selling and viz is losing money on them why should they continue printing them. Sorry for the long rant, but I just had to get my opinion out. I also prefer the print version over digital, but I would love to get alpha instead of reading op and others through scanlations even with

  • @superotakushow the 2 weeks behind japan thing. And if alpha is a success the gap will definetely get shorter . And maybe viz will make it available worldwide or atleast europe so I can get it too.

  • @superotakushow sorry, i love manga, but im not going to contribute to the death of the physical distribution of manga.

  • @superotakushow bullshit

  • Strawberry 100% got cancelled? Man. :/

  • I totally agree with you Code!

  • I'm jealous of you americans. I live in Lithuania, where there's almost no manga. But you can get physical copies of manga. I have to read online. AND IT SUCKS BALLS. I would like to read physical copies..

  • Comment removed

  • i mean whatever i dont like reading online but i also dont like buying shit so there u go

  • i agree with you cp since it is pretty useless for jump to go digital when there is already free manga to read online, personally i love reading manga off paper and not digital atleast that is my preference, so yeah that is going to be pretty useless

  • ive been buying physical copies of manga and anime and im not going to stop

  • Nice opening/ending & Jump cuts NHK!! Definitely think that companies like bandai and viz don't realize going digital isn't going to take off like they expect. Unfortunately one day manga will probably be out of print form but until that day i'm going to keep collecting the physical copies.

  • @AniMangaWorld yeah, if more and more companies start going digital, it could lead to the death of physical copies of anime and manga. and that would really suck.

  • @AniMangaWorld and thanks ^_^

  • the digital ones are cheap as hell but I do like having the actual book in my hands. When its digital I feel like I don't really have it so you know.

  • Holy crap I'm wearing the same shirt. Yeah I agree with you I don't think they really care about the people who buy their stuff they are just trying to make lots of money

  • I thought Shonen Jump Alpha was to release the English translation the same week the Japanese chapters come out. I might've misread it. Though, I would still buy the volumes when it came out, because staring at a screen isn't as enjoyable as a book that can be carried and read whenever. Speaking of Vizbig books, I hope Viz releases more manga in that format, and I was surprised that they didn't release One Piece like that.

  • Jump cuts are fine as long as you give the audience time to soak up what you're saying between them. And I don't mind how these publishers are going digital but I honestly don't see it very profitable considering how as you said, everything can be read for free online nowadays. I do like how Viz has taken it upon themselves to move ahead with series such as the main shonen 3 digitally because they are seriously behind. My personal preference, is and will always be physical.

  • Agree 100%

  • Everything is going digital.. lol People are stupid. Who wants to always read something on a screen o.O Reading an actual book is 100 times better.

  • I Like Trains

  • I think they should somehow (not as a requirement, but at least have the option to) bundle physical/digital together kind of like how most DVDs/Blu Rays nowadays come with a digital copy. I love having the physical book itself but I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to have the convenience of a digital copy.

  • Funimation knows that digital sales are not the answer because they realize that digital sales make up only about 5% of the overall sales. I'm not sure about Viz though. They just fail sometimes. LOL

  • good vid yeah lets get physical lol

  • I wish VIZ would do more VIZBIG volumes of other series. One Piece certainly should get one as well as Ranma 1/2. And they should include all the original color pages. Unlike the Dragon Ball VIZBIGs, they didn't provode them all but at least it's better than nothing I suppose. But anyway physical copys and actual boxsets (not single DVD cases) are always the way to go in my opinion.

  • @StarDr0ps I would love to see some One Piece viz bigs, but I think it's too late to start :/

But it sure would be great to have some Viz Big One Piece volumes...

  • I think that going digital is probably a good idea. However the only way it'll truly be able to compete with online scans is to a) make it worldwide (instead of just in the the US) and b) have their releases almost simulcast with the physical releases of weekly shonen jump japan.

Worldwide simulcast releases possibly only hours after they're released in japan plus their better translations and better quality scans. Do all that then they'll truly start to compete with the online scanlators.

  • physical copy's forever

  • i just noticed the reactions on videos are gone. when that hapen

  • @OzakiRain lmao. no more "cute"

  • You know what would be cool if they colored the books like the old Akira vols but I guess not everyone would like that also I watch anime on Netfilx or Crunchyroll and when I can buy Dvds,so I help out.

  • I read a ton of series online but I got to say FUCK digital manga if i'm going to buy manga I want to be able to physically hold the damn book

  • I think Viz's sales for digital copies of manga and Shonen Jump will be less than physical. A lot of people can't afford a Nook, Kindle, etc or just don't want one. They charge less money from what I've heard for digital copies but that will only affect them more since they will get less income. The only good thing about this is nothing will go out of print. '-'

  • yeah people can read free manga so whats the point of WSJ alpha? Right?....... say that to the 1000+ manga youve got sitting in your background. Also alpha gives us faster volume releases so im happy as fuck!

  • YAY I LIKE FREE LEMONADE

  • I see what you did with the lemons.

  • @Deathgod840

    Joo has da lemonz infatuation
