the reason for high costs are gov regulations that force the cost up. Whats wrong with health insurance is that people expect it to cover everything. They don't want to pay anything. If you asked your auto insurance to pay for wipers, tires filters, washes it would cost $10,000 a year per car.But we expect health to cover ALL!!! If we all had to pay out of pocket for small stuff the price would go threw the floor.Get the gov out of it. they have no constitutional rite to be involved at any level
I agree. Socialized medical care still wont cover every American and the waiting lists to see a Doctor are very long.
Mike Huckabee agrees we nee reform just not socialized reform. I hope this health care bill dies. We need to start all over, but there are many other serious matters at hand now. Economy and Protecting this country.
I know what you are talking about. I have insurance through my BCBS. I am under my husband's work insurance and we pay just for me $500.00 a month. To go to the medical doctor I have a 80/20 and I don't know if my doctor is charging me a outrageous fee or what but I end up paying $80.00-$100.00 every time I go.
Republicans are saying that they don't want any reform. They do, they believe our system is not what it should be; however they think Obama is being too radical. He isn't focusing on preventative health care, just baseline insurance. Also the Democrats are socializing health care. Socialism means the full ownership and operation of a specific industry. They don't want that. They want a lot of reform in the industry an a public option. Not complete nationalization of health care.
Actually, yes it can. When a bill is sent to collections, if it is not paid off in 30 days, it will be added to your credit report, which lowers your score.
Stacie... Right on. Sweetheart agreements allow some payers to pay LESS than the billed cost. That includes my own Mayo HMO which automatically gets a 15% discount before it even decides what it will pay. It also includes Medicare, which has the power to dictate to the hospital what it will pay and order the hospital to write the rest off. The hospital system I work for states that if Medicare paid fairly, bills to everyone else could be reduced 35%. And we want the Feds insuring everyone?
Other countries, same procedure but lesser cost, how come?
Boils down to greed of the pharmaceutical co., hospital administration, and some drs too (unnecessary procedures etc.) and others too.
Universal healthcare is nice, but who pays for it? The people...in the form of taxes. The lower income people pays the same proportion of taxes as the rich, regardless of income. So, it's really not free. (hehe. Pre-paid?)
It's like extended warranties. It's nice if you don't have the cash in hand.
There are a lot of factors aside from your good one.
Lets say, You go to the emergency room for an asthma attack. Upon arrival, they make you sign a contract that states you'd be responsible for the fees if your health insurance would'nt pay. They give you medication that was marked up 600%, while the staff just walks around and keeps you there, longer than you need to be. Total bill = $750. The insurance gets a discount, pays the bill and says you have to pay 20% of their cost. worth it?
What I meant was, that if they can't get payment from the insurance co, you end up with the bill. They won't treat you unless you sign that document.
I've never paid either but had a bad experience because the insurance co. wouldn't pay due to an error with the coding. I was constantly harassed till it got resolved.
Some of the factors that some dont realize when comparing America to other nations with health care is we are a nation thats in serious debt and citizens lack of responsibility with their own debt, bankcruptcy, etc., are all issues that impacts our economy. Plus, we buy internationally before we buy locally or made in America. There is more revenue gained within foreign countries for local goods than in America. Point is there are other reasons why health care cost is so much greater here.~Raven
Social Security, Medicare, and the post office actually aren't that bad. The post office delivers to places cheaply that no for-profit corporation can reach. Medicare is a godsend for most seniors. Social Security took the elderly from being one of the poorest segments of society to one of the richest.
I think some people are worrying too much. It's not government "taking over" health care. It's just government offering an affordable way to get access to outstanding doctors and hospitals.
exactly! there are many ways to handle this problem and yours is one of the best. I don't see the churches doing what they used to do. Catholics used to run charity hospitals but they don't have enough nuns anymore because the orders changed so much. Think of all the churches that run tax free doing nothing.
wow we dont have to pay over here we have the NHS, i just got my arm seen to earlier today. i waited 15 minutes got seen and left ,its a godsend at times.

Yes, we will pay for health insurance one way or another. Through forced taxation or choice.
