  • Had to give this a thumbs down. I wanted to see where the hook goes (i.e. which specific stitch) to join the circle. At 4:35 you say "these two stitches," but your fingers cover your work and then you move it out of camera view. *sigh* Perhaps if you paused and showed your work? If it weren't for that critical step, it would be a great video. It's fascinating to watch your technique.

  • @lynanne1 Perhaps you ask questions or look through the 800+ tutorials I have posted instead of critiquing on a tutorial that is several years old?

  • @lynanne1 You have the ability to pause and rewind any video as well.

  • This is still too fast!!! your hand is covering up the stitch so I cant tell what you are doing. The most difficult part is the first few minutes and its not even in slow motion!

  • @leobeauty730 I sent you the beginner playlist with recent tutorials.

  • Is anyone else having a problem with the ads in the way? I cannot see anything. and the video is zoomed too close to the persons thumb. Can you possibly upload another video that is slower, so those of us trying to learn can figure out what is going on?

  • @amberjoleen89 Those are annotations that I have intentionally posted there. Select the pink annotation for a better quality circle.

  • thumb is in way. cant even tell what is going on here.. not a good vid for beginners!

  • @MicrowavedTofu I have updated the annotations in the video. Please view the playlist for better quality beginner tutorials.

  • ummm slow motion or not...

I was totally lost when you put the needle in the middle even after watching it 5times... it would be a bit better if you explained it, I just dont get what your doing at that part

  • @CandyBeardProduction I am going to send you a playlist that has the basic crochet stitches. I suggest that you practice the double crochet and the give the circle a try. It will make more sense when you have a basic understanding of the stitches.

  • I do read your comments and a popular consensus was to slow down the beginner crochet videos. I have done that. You can find the basic crochet stitches on Youtube/crochet, which is my second channel. I have plans for a lot more.

  • the hardest part, you didn't slow motion... come now. =P i'm *new!*

  • @christopherhmong I will send you a better video, which is a recent revision for the circle in slow motion.

  • @tjw1963 wow, thank you! very kind! =D I appreciate it.

  • @christopherhmong Did you get the video I sent you?

  • @tjw1963 Yes I did. It was great! much easier (for a slow-poke like me). =D

  • @christopherhmong I am glad that you got it. Thank you!

  • you should discribe the very first part better.... just a suggestion

  • @ArielMcMc I am sending you a link for a new crochet circle I recently remade.

  • ur tutorial is so useful because u zoom in and do slow motions that helps ALOTTT

  • Thanks a lot, I got it now..after some trial and error since it's not really slow-mo at the step that was hard for me :P (right after chaining 3)

  • Thank Q for the slow motion in this tutorial; it helped alot :)

  • You are welcome.

  • thanx

  • because i i'm going to make some earrings and i can't figure out how to add a second color

  • I sent you a video on attaching a slip knot and attach a new color.

  • @tjw1963 Can I please get that video too? Thanks.

  • @hottangel I sent you the video.

  • how do you add a diffrent color

  • lol slooooooow mmooootion! thanks for the tutorial!!!!

  • I believe you are my first slow motion comment, lol. Thank you. :)

  • ur welcome, lol.

  • From 4:56 forward explanation is not very clear..

  • Is this the same technique/pattern from the lightweight beanie tutorial?

  • It is the same technique, a different combination of stitches. There are many combination of stitches that you can put together to get a circle.

  • hello if i make this circle it is small and not so big as yours Maybe cuzz my hook is to smal? 6.50 mm

  • I was using a 5.5mm crochet hook. The size on the screen is not going to be accurate and it will look much larger than what it really is. The circle is only about 2 inches or 5.8 centimeters.

  • thanks! when i use a 10 mm hook will my work be bigger?

  • Yes it will be much larger.

  • Again Thanks so much! i have just made fingerless gloves :D its realy easy!

  • You can use any size hook to make a circle. This is a practice piece so size will not matter with this piece.

  • whats your technique??

  • what technique are you talking about?

  • crocheting in circles for dummies was actually more helpful for me since I'm a total beginner. But after that this vid became easier to understand

  • A video may help the words make more sense as well as lots of practice.

  • can u make a vid more slower then that becuz u call it slow but its actually fast

  • wtf thats all i can say

  • you were going to fast call it slow motion

  • You did 6 chain links and the 12 double crochets around it - is this 1:2 ratio always the same?

  • It will be different, depending on the pattern and author.

  • thank you sooo much, i got this

  • You are welcome. I am glad you got it.

  • I finally got it this past Fri- what I had to do was find instructions online and then I printed them and then watched this vid- finally got it!

  • I am glad you got it. When you are learning anything new, it will not make sense in the beginning until you have tried it a few times. There will be other crochet techniques that you want to learn and the same thing will happen. Those are the AH-HA moments of crochet.

  • This is still NOT slow enough...call me slow if you wont- but I can't really tell what she does right after she brings the 2 'end' peices together.

  • Comment removed

  • You are welcome. By default you crochet in the stitch unless the instructions tell you otherwise. Space is a very generic term with crochet.

  • Thank you.

  • hi,

is there any video on a circle which is done continuously, I mean without the 3CH stitches to start the next row..For example i do DC the same way but once i finish the 1st row,can i continuously move to the 2nd row without doin the 3CH stitches??? A non-stop circle. Is it possible ??? if so cud i hav the details as to how to go ahead. Thanks!!

  • I have several hat tutorials posted and made with the continual round.

  • thanks this video really helped.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • ...I thought this was slow motion? Or do I have to wait later in the video...

  • The slow motion starts at timecode 54 seconds.

  • umm hw do u make this circle bigger? could u send me a video for a larger circle

  • What are you wanting to make?

  • maybe a round mat

  • There is another circle with 3 rounds. The bottom of the basket the I just posted is flat. If you want to make it larger, you will need to continue increasing, otherwise the sides will form.

  • :OOO

    so good :O

  • Hi, i'm doing quite well on my circle BUT as it gets bigger should i increase the 3 stitches or change the single/double/single pattern as i go round? My circle's starting to bunch at bits, will this just sort itself out as i go? Thanks

  • You would need to increase each round to make it larger. I do have other tutorials for hats and larger circles with more specific instructions if that is what you are looking for. This is more of a practice circle to teach the basic circle.

  • That would be great, i've had a quick look here and on your web page but i can't find it. Do you have a link? Your a star! :D I think i'll just have to put this one to experience and i think i can make it into a nice bouquet! :D

  • I sent you a hat tutorial.

  • I just wanted to say a huge thank you for making this so easy to follow. I thought all i'd ever be able to crochet would be a square blanket with colour change! :D I only learnt a few weeks ago. Thanks to you I now have a 5cm circle! I'm so proud of myself lol i'm making it into a pink and white blanket for my daughters dolly bed for xmas! THANK YOU! :D

  • You are welcome and thank you, I appreciate you commenting. You and others like yourself are the whole reason why I do the video tutorials. Crochet is not so hard once you have a basic understanding but it can be very frustrating at times. I know all to well from my own frustrations. I am trying to share techniques to make it easier. Just never give up because it will always make some sort of sense. You can crochet anything that you want to crochet. Ask questions if you should need help.

  • thank you for the link i found many of round circular patterns to make blankets from thank you

  • You are welcome. :)

  • hi there i still cannot find a pattern or instructions on how to do a full circle blanket ive looke on the internet still no luck can u or any one help please

  • I sent you a link to many round afghans.

  • you should explain more of what you are doing

  • I have expanded this tutorial to slow motion so that is why there is less talking. If I stretched the audio soundtrack my voice would be in slow motion and inaudible.

  • The second row.

  • You don't skip any stitches. You do 2 doublecrochet in 1 stitch, then 2 doublecrochet in the next stitch. You don't skip any stitches. My crochet blog has a diagram of stitch placement. You can find the link to the right of the video under the "more info" link.

  • ok thanx will let you know how it goes....

  • GM! After I complete my 1st circle then ch3, where do i satrt the 2 sets of dc? Do I dc in every other stich in the beginning or after the 1st set of 2. Sorry if this question is far out but im stuck.

    thanx

  • sorry i thought my 1st question didn't post.

  • What row are you talking about?

  • GM! Question? After I complete the 1st circle ANd ch3, when i do the 2 sets of dc do I skip one then do another set or skip every other chain? Sorry if teh questionm makes no sense at all, just a little confused.

    thanx

  • mine kept on looking messy and weird, I don't know. I guess I'll get better...hopefully...

  • If you are a beginner crocheter, it will look messy and wierd. Keep practicing and your stitches will look more uniform and even in shape.

  • I think I love you...

  • Good god, I have been trying to figure out how to start these circles forever! FINALLY I get it! I kept single crocheting the second round into the first circle (joined chain at the beginning), now I know to go through the damn middle of the loop from now on. THANK YOU TERESA!

  • BTW I know this video doesn't call for any SC on the second round. My comment was relevant to the beanie pattern you demonstrated in a seperate video, but this one definitely helped me figure it out.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • ty now i can make circles ^_^ ♥

  • Ok I knew now to crochet before and knew how to do circles and squares but I hadn't done it in like 3 years or more maybe, and since I was a quick learning beginner back then... xD; I had forgotten!

    This helped me learn the basics again so I can kick start my brain to remember most I did before. ^-^ Thanks. And definitely thanks for doing it slower xD;

    *makes dollie hat now* ^-^
