Why aren't these guys in the R&R Hall of Fame? By the way, I think a very convincing argument could be made that Alan Wilson was the greatest musician to ever play Rock.
You've got to have a band where you have a fat lead singer in the middle, a long-haired bass player on the left bouncing his head up and down and a slide guitarist on the right who just stands there and plays.
Gee, that sounds like socialism! Horrible! Lets work to acquire as much wealth as possible for yourself and to hell with everyone else. That might be tough to put into a song but maybe ted nugent can put that together.
at one time pop music met popular music .. that's what it was catigorigized as .. now it's just a certain type of comerical crap but back then it covered a wide spectrum .. didn't have the same meaning as it does today led zeppelin was on the pop charts .. bad company ... these guys ..the beatles. . i mean freaking bands!..
Excellent!!! .. saw them at Lanchester Polytechnic circa 1975/6 in Coventry UK (now Coventry University) .. my God! this brings it all back .. many many thanks Wilbyhilby.
Watching Canned Heat sure brings backs some fond memories. They say if you can remember the 60s you weren't really there. Trust me...Some things you never forget ! Thanks for uploading this vid.
@wilbyhilbly i saw them with james gang in 1973 at the denver collisium, and i am just tickled pink to see them again! i remember this big guy singing and when he would bounce around like that, the whole stage would bounce! next concert was leon russle and joe cocker, but that's another story :)
@wilbyhilbly Sadly Al Wilson would pass away exactly 8 months after this was taped. He died on September 3, 1970 from a drug overdose at only 27. Bob Hite would pass away in 1981 at only 36 from heart failure. Canned Heat was a hell of a band, that's for sure.
i read that the Bear died of a heroin overdose after a gig in the early 80s at the Palomino Club. all of the heat is gone now except for Fito and maybe one of the bass players.
Bear did die of drugs but it was a Speed Ball (heroin and speed). And I believe you are right on who is still around. I grew up with Bear's youngest son who died the same way his dad did Mick.
it's crazy that such good rockin folks go way before their time. the heat is one of my all time favorite bands (the old heat, not the "vintage" version). i saw them twice in Denver, CO. do you happen to know where the Bear is buried? you cannot find the location anywhere on the internet. don't forget to boogie.
On April 5th, 1981 at the Palomino in Los Angeles, gargantuan vocalist Bob Hite collapsed and died of a heart attack. The Bear still boogies with us onstage in our hearts, and for now, we offer this tribute site to celebrate his memory. Thank You for visiting.
Vintage pop, only an idiot can call this music like this. That's the blues. And if you're american, you can be proud. Because thats the land who made a lot of talented blues man, and also with Africa the land who made the Blues.
@ROM12086com Pero también los norteamericanos, maltrataron y segregaron a la gente de color y al Blues. Los ingleses primero respetaron y tocaron el Blues llevandolo al mundo entero.
Nice to see the entire video and not have the count in cut off. I love this "live on tape" version. Great stuff here. This was January 1970 if I recall correctly. That lead guitar player was stoned out of his mind, wasn't he? Beat Club was the best for great current music of all kinds. Thanks so much for sharing with us.
The video is not as sunny as you think.Instead, it is ominous for Canned Heat.
Hite had put on too much weight. He had become morbidly obese.
But an even more dangerous foe stalked Al Wilson. His on stage demeanor reflects deep depression. He looks catatonic .This had nothing to do with drugs-everything to do with emotional illness.
Depression would lead to Wilson`s suicide.Obesity to Hite`s death.
Sad.Hite was a good lead singer.Wilson was a genius-one of America`s most talented Bluesmen.
At 40th anniversary of summer of love at golden gate park 2007, and at the heroes of woodstock tour just this past summer. What a blast! FITO on the drums!
What a pity Alan "blind owl" Wilson isn't alive today. One great white Blues picker so underappreciated. Gone to Blues Heaven with all the other great. R.I.P Bob and Al.
Has the same feel as the Beatles' - Get Back !! Which came first ??
