Great idea for the kids in boosters!! I wonder how it will work on a baby car seat, because you have to run the belt through the car seat? I've only ever used the center of the backseat for the baby, but not everyone knows this is the best place for the baby car seat. Still a very smart idea:)
Two big pluses: "it spreads the impact force over a larger area" and "is more comfortable than current seat belts which will encourage more seat belt use".
dont you think this type of technology would exist many years back together with the air bad it self?, I believe in should be, but it was not put into use because business tries to make most out of each sale, one dollar saved on one car, millions would be saved over years, now on the edge of being eliminated out of the market, they tried to bring back customers with something they could have done years back, HOW PATHETIC!
wow some people comment without knowing what the hell they're talking about.. first of all it says that it inflates through the buckle.. that means if the belt is not in the buckle, it would not be able to inflate... secondly, you can't inflate an air bag by tugging on it... it has to have an electrical charge sent to it...
i see both good and bad with this. first what if you crash and you dont have the belt on with it still inflate? also we have belt cutters because of the best not comming undone after a crash. especially water crashes.
sensors in the anchor to determine if the belt is clipped in or not. A technology we already have, ever wonder how your car figures out you have your seatbelt on and stops flashing that light?
what happens to an infant baby that sits in a car seat i dont think its going to help the infant but its a good idea for people who dont need a booster seat
Uhh, you have no clue what you are talking about, Buick, Cadillac and Oldsmobile had air bags in 1974, 6 years BEFORE the 1980 Mercedes S-Class got them. Seatbelts were found first in the 1955 Fords and 3 point seltbelts in 1959 Volvos.
if you think about it logically, it would mean that the whole upper body/torso would be held back at an accedent EXCEPT the neck/head. Meaning it would enhance the risk of breaking your neck. which in
Mate my dad was in a ford van when he was 18 and he had a head on smash with some other van at 60mph if he was wearing the seat belt at the time he would of been dead because the whole front of the van was crushed into the front seats

encourage? It's weird to an Australian because everyone wears their seatbelt here. It's been illegal for decades, plus why wouldn't you?
Octamed 2 years ago
In America, it's not illegal in a bunch of states, and plenty of people just don't do it because it's uncomfortable or whatever. I know. Backward.

Why would you not have it on in the first place? And why would if matter if it inflates when you don't have it on.

you bring up a good point. scary thought really... all i can say if it can keep my child safer then thats what i would want.
halflife103 2 years ago
@imrjcyka no the belt won't inflate because its inflated through where you stick the buckle. and belt cutters will cut just fine through these

Ford is only interested in salt-induced corrosion and profits.
An airborne vehicle hitting the roof pilars anywhere at 60 mph is not good.
Being sandwiched betwen 2 transports at 60 mph is not good.
Indestructibility is the key.
"Death-Proof" would be a desireable ad. slogan.
Is any car rated as DEATH-PROOF?
Well, if you can cut the steel with a body grinder, it is just bunk recycled poo.
Even Pooh knows this.
Does Curious George?

Why not just put regular airbags in the back of the front seats? Probably cost less to incorporate than an entirely new safety system.

That's why my first two and only two
vehicles that I own are Ford.
I feel very safe in my Mustang GT and
F-150 Truck. Although I tell people, when I'm driving, in another borough of NYC
(manhattan) who do you think is going to
get hurt (when they walk in front of me when I'm driving)? F-150 is Built Ford
Tough and if you knock it you'll see how
stong and hard the metal is. Now that's
