@FSXfan007 indeed. But another factor why it's so long to engage the reverser is due to the tail-heavy engine mounting, it is essential for the nose gear to touch the runway before reverser can be engaged. otherwise it is a possible tail strike.
were you even allowed to film a landing in north korea? lol just kidding, is my first view of a tu154 landing thanks! Funny how far the L and R gears are from each other :O
Isn't it hard getting there, what do you need to do to be allowed to enter the country, I heard you are suppose to be a registered as a supporter of North Korean ideologies.
@galatasarayfan67 Not really, theres some premade tours to North Korea and through them you can enter that country. Ive heard that in North Korea you need to stay your tour guide all time other than when being in hotel.
@serverguyxx You forgot Stalin, he killed even more innocent people than Hitler and way more than Mussolini ever did, but I guess that history is written by winners... At least germans saved my country from him. I would say biggest asshole list should go like this:
1. Hitler and Stalin 2. Mao Zedong (if we look numbers of people that have been killed by dictators actions)
3. Pol Pot 4. Idi Amin & few other african ones 5. Rest of them, Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il being first ones.
Kim Jong-il is definantly worse than number 5, he must be in 3 or number 2, North Korea is the worst in terms of human rights, he put the North Korean national football team under slavery when they lost to Brazil. Instead of trying to improve the countries economics, he is spending a huge amount of money on stuff that isn't needed, such as the best looking and very expensive buildings just to look good to the forgieners while it's people suffer.
@galatasarayfan67 Well hes very bad but Pol Pot was purely crazy, and Zeodong maybe wasnt very bad that kind of way but his bad politics killed lots of people in China. From current dictatorships North Korea is worst, yes, but Pol Pots Cambodia was even worse.
Anyone can go there (except journalists need a permit). This was a charter flight carrying over 100 tourists, including some 40 US citizens. If you like vacation and sightseeing a bit different, then go to North Korea ;)
@Chefsalat76 I’m just wondering did anyone in NK threaten to put you in jail for taking photos or video’s like they do here in America? For example, Michael Allison an Illinois resident here in America who up till recently was facing 75 years to life in prison for performing his civic duty and videotaping his town police in public performing their tax paid duties? Were you terrorized with life in prison for taking photos there?
Are you serious? NK in fact encourages tourists to take photos & videos, mainly of concrete monuments though. In a few occasions we were told not to photorgaph, for example military aicraft right next to our plane. This would be the same in most other countries though.
@Chefsalat76 Thx for the reply, yes I’m very serious. Americans are getting arrested and jailed daily for taking photographs video’s etc. it’s getting really bad. If you take a look at my channel you will see a video titled “Amerikan Policed State Velcome to za Homeland”. This is how we are treated a lot of times for taking photos / video’s. When you hear that America is a champion of freedom know that it is a lie, the Americans are liars it’s all Hollywood smoke and mirrors. Tell the world
Yes, there are two air field landing. The northern airfield is for landing and takeoff for foreight. The southern airfield is for military. Also for foreigh to enter/exit main building. If you look on Google Earth and search the area on the left side of southern airfiled, you will see some military air force base. Noted: if you look more careful, you will see the underground hainders. That why North Korea don't want you to see the southern area while landing and takeoff.
@jjn3 I'm not defending the Russians, but that plane in the video is from the 1980s, where jet from every country were loud as hell. Secondly, they're mounted on the fuselage, right next to where the guy is filming. And finally, people do buy russian planes. China, most of Asia and Africa buy planes from Russia.
@2491cc Many modern ones like B737, 757 and A320 were made in some part of 80´s, so I dont agree with you. But ofc TU-154B is even older than that anyway. And last part is rubbish, russian manufacturers are dying as even all big russian airlines including Aeroflot are ordering western made planes. In Asia and Africa at least 80% of planes are western made. Russian ones other than few new ones just cant compete with western ones in being fuel economical, and thats what airlines care.
why cant north korea and south korea live in peace. if only north korea would be happy with what they have got, admit they have money trouble and let south korea help them, i have visited the south and i am 100% sure they would be willing to help.
Checkout the FNJ Airport layout on Google Maps. The Rwy is far North of the terminal, and we landed to the South. The crew hence used the entire Rwy and was not in a hurry to slow down.
@Chefsalat76 It doesn't matter how long the runway is, I'm fairly sure Pyongyang doesn't have the world's longest for that matter, any competent pilot throws the reverse thrust on as soon as possible to vacate the runway as quickly as able and minimise the risk if some unmitigated risk suddenly appearing causing loss of the aircraft.
@justalilrandom Thats not true, sometimes when runway is long enough even big jets land WITHOUT reverse thrust at all, and that happens in west too.
Only stupid pilot tries to clear runway as soon as possible by hard braking which wears both engines and tire brakes when there is no need for it. If they do so then they have to use more thrust to taxi after stopping much before needed.
Probably its different in bad weather, but in nice weather like this no need for quick stop.
@Pvjinflight I'm actually a pilot, but what would I know? It is in the designer's specifications to use reverse thrust asap, maximum braking is not always used if, like the Tu-154, the brakes are not of the new ceramic type as you are quite right they will eventually be damaged. It has happenned in the west, have a look at the Qantas flight that overran Bangkok in 1999 due to that being standard procedure to not use full flaps, brakes or reverse thrust, since then reverse thrust is always used.
@Pvjinflight I also didn't say coming to a complete stop, just enough to be able to clear the runway instead of missing the taxi way and thus having to taxi to the next one. I have flown on more planes than you have had hot meals, so leave it to me to know what's what.
@justalilrandom Why they would turn to the first taxiway when gate where they are going to is another side of the airport, they would just have to taxi same distance than they could move using speed from landing.
Maximum braking is nearly never user with commercial jets, it just wears brakes. And there is video on youtube where Lufthansa 737 lands without reverse thrust. Or do you use always MAX autobrake settings when you are landing?
Yeah, there comes im more exprienced than you card...
@Pvjinflight I actually admitted the maximum braking not being used unless directly necessary, but obviously english is not your forte is it? It's funny I did actually say that about wearing the brakes down, well those of the old type found on such an antiquated design. So one video therefore proves you right? No, it doesn't.
@Pvjinflight I'll cut you some slack because yo are just a child. That is correct you aren't a pilot, and you have not flown as much as I have as a passenger. I have yet to land at any airport where reverse thrust isn't engaged, regardless of layout, I spent a lot of time flying into Riyadh airport and even if the aircraft was landing and coming towards the terminal end of the runways reverse thrust was used.
While I agree it is always recommended to vacate the rwy asap for safety and to maximise movements, there are numerous major carriers such as LH or TG which do not use reverse thrust upon landing at their home port. Some do engage reversers into the interlock position, but do not apply any thrust. It is a careful evaluation of taxi fuel cost and time versus increased engine and brake usage. Same at take-off, LH only applies around 92% N1 for take-off to my knowledge.
@Pvjinflight Pilots are meant to be taught to use reverse thrust so that when the time comes that it is needed in a life or death situation they do not think about it and waste time endangering all aboard, as has happenned in the past. Clearly you are not a pilot, and can barely speak english so you miss the point of what I have said. If an airline sets using reverse thrust as an SOP it should be engaged immediately, not as the pilot feels.
@Pvjinflight Oh and my experience comes from trained pilots in developed nations who have an idea of what they are doing, not Air Koryo. I actually never use MAX, only sufficient braking to bring my aircraft to taxi speed as quickly as feasible, or if the next taxi way is quite some distance away, as hard as is viable to make said taxi way. To be fair I fly at busy airports where clearing the runway is a necessity so other aircraft can land, not North Korea.
@Pvjinflight Learn to use english or argue effectively, I'd prefer both but you don't seem intelligent to grasp both, because I really dislike one sided arguments against people who haven't a clue about what they are saying. Cheers.
I wish north korea had more rights. Until it does have rights and they are freinds with the United states where i live I am never going to go to that no mans land. by the way how did u get this up on you tube. @hallointhere It is because it is an Russian airplane not American or European and also this is the old version of tupolev 154B-2 the new is better tu-154M

Great video, thank you.
I went to North Korea in September 2011 and had a fantastic trip.
The country is screwed up big time, but that doesn't mean that it is not worth a visit.
I would go again only to see the Arirang Mass Games which really must be seen to be believed.
However, if anyone plans to go to North Korea make sure to take train back to China (unless you're American...). It's a great experience.
