the only true way to play this game is on the hardest mode, when sephiroth can 1 hit you. this keeps the final fantasy characters from looking like pussys that get beat down by a dumb kid with a oversized key....

great game though. it reminds me of my teen years... hits me deep.

My GOD! I LOVE THIS GAME! I'm obsessed with it! There is absolutely NOTHING that I dislike about this game. It literally took me to a whole new world... Pfft, ahahahahahaha! I just had an Aladdin flashback! XD... But no, seriously. The storyline is amazing, the graphics are just so RIGHT, & the music just makes me melt. It's definately NOT hard to fall in love with this game. KH 4 EVER, DUDES! <33

I'm really happy you did a good review of this game since it is one of my favorites of all time. And i totally agree that the story is the best part of the game, thats what makes you able to fall in love with it XD

Does your attitude on KH also apply to the 2nd game? I read an interesting critique of the 2nd game that seems based around the notion that a lot of people like the first game but find the 2nd one tiresome.

@osurpless I think the gameplay of the 2nd game is more polished, but the story has some issues. I'll probably need to review both Chain of Memories and KH II at the same time.

There is only one word that describes the KH games: Filler.

Personally I love the original storyline that is in the KH games but every Disney level is just put there for filler space it seems. All KH games only have important storyline in the original areas that are always placed at the beginning (the island you start out in), the middle (Twilight Town), and the end (Hollow Bastion). Every game it seems like I'm trudging through the Disneyworlds because I know nothing important happens in them.

I have to admit I never gave Kingdom Hearts a chance just because I generally dislike crossovers and I also don't like the classic Disney characters very much. Nor the idea of beating enemies with a giant key and all that. Enemies named "the heartless" also seems cheesy, more like carebears than disney even. =P

But technically and gameplay wise it still seems like great game. So I guess I can understand why people like it. Great review. =)

What impresses me about Kingdom Hearts is how dark it is, by the end. They didn't pull any punches with the crazy story arc that went into some deep places.

The second one got a little bit annoying, story-wise, and they didn't integrate the levels very well at all with the story... it was very "afterthought" feeling.

I loved KH1 so much. That and FFX were the last great games of Squaresoft and Square in general in my opinion. Music and storyare perfect.

KH2 on the other hand was not so greatfor me. It has that Squareenix touch to it that im not mad about.
