this argument of a signed contract is pure folly. This really filters out people who just obey the law and those who really care for and about it. in most jurisdictions contract are invalid and thus cannot be enforced if the terms violate the law in any other way. in andre shepard's case it is the participation in a war that violates international law. many former fellow soldiers might be antagonized by this point of view, but i have not heard any sophisticated counter argument yet.
