@metastasisman He left Yes because he couldn't stand his colleagues anymore after recording Close to the Edge, and he had always wanted to play with King Crimson. Ironically, it was Bruford who facilitated Tales, because he introduced Anderson to Muir, who is batshit insane and likes weird religious stuff that influenced Anderson.
btw Have you ever noticed that most prog bands get really pretentious on double albums? The Wall, aforementioned Tales, The Lamb Lies Down...
@birchofacookie2 this Bill Bruford music just crazily inspires-flatters, the shit out of me, that I turn either hysterlcally happy or mad, just by reading all this bill fan stuff too; remember bill's comment when recording close to the edge, said they were head strong 18 year olds; said was ready to strike any one coming there way...
@Defector5 and the reason he had to leave both bands was because the big shots in each, chris squire and robert fripp, respectively, felt outshined by him.
I attended this drum clinic, it was awesome!!!! Don't pass up the opportunity to see him if he puts on a clinic in your area. Well worth the $10 admission.
man he is great. awesome at grooving, jazz, blues/rock and roll. awesome at soloing, polyrhythms, perfect execution of rim shots (i have never heard them so clean), and so forth. this guy is great, and always changes his drum setup, and is not afraid to experiment with different types of percussion. what a musician, and he seems to be a musician who is awesome, but will not talk himself up. i hope he gets fucked by hot women on the simple principle that he is a musical genius.
@blondeandblue I agree, but he doesn't change his setup that much (anymore). The hihat in the front of the snare, with the cable stand/footpedal and the toms flat on the side is just ingenious! He says it's easier to play there, and it certainly makes his playing look very comfortable, and the kit looks freaking beautiful in its symmetry.
And the playing.. so original and solid, powerful and jazzy, technical yet groovy, with the trademark rimshots, and also composing... I love it... (no homo)
i do like his rather unusual drum setup. Placing the hi-hat in that position is interesting. I think that just opens up so many more possibilities in playing.

I always rave about Gavin Harrison.
But I always forget about Bruford. I played this lp endlessly back in the day.

Yes and King Crimson were both at their peak with Bill Bruford. He's the best I have ever heard.

I saw him live with just he and Patrick Moraz (of Moody Blues fame). The concert was in a word, INCREDIBLE.

The description says "Hell's Bells" instead of Beelzebub, but otherwise great.

Ahhh! Duh, thanks for correcting that. I thought I'd screwed something up when copying + pasting from my other vids from this clinic.
