Good video. The recorders were relatively respectful (they filmed from a distance and were approached by the trooper - they didn't get in the way of him doing his job), and I thought the trooper was respectful too.
Keep in mind that there are a ridiculous number of statutes to keep track of and officers are human too, and can't remember them all off the top of their head (particularly those they rarely have to deal with on a day to day basis).

Have you checked to make sure what the open carry laws are in Ohio concerning entering a motor vehicle? Many open carry states clarify that an openly carried firearm automatically becomes concealed once the wearer enters into a vehicle; therefore, having the firearm visibly on your hip while riding in a car counts as concealment.
It is VERY wise to get a permit regardless of whether or not you plan to open carry. I don't think we should have to, but it's wise to do so.

No, you don't need a permit to OC here in Ohio, but why do people feel the need to TRY to cause issues. You KNEW the cop was going to come over to question you about the camera, so you KNEW your weapon would come up. It actually depends though, even in states that allow 'open carry' you may still be required to have a permit or license to carry in certain areas or zones. Since you're in OH you are required one for when it's in your vehicle and it also can't be loaded or have ammo or mag anywhere in the vehicle. You would be required to have a CHL to have it loaded or to 'conceal' in your vehicle. So how would you talk your way out of that question if it were asked?

Unless the laws in Ohio are different than anywhere else in the United States...how can the officer walk away from someone who has a gun and not check them for an I.D. and warrants? Simple fact, a person having a gun= having the right "probable cause" to request an I.D. Am I wrong here? If I am...that puts a lot of officers at great risk.
@beautymerits Colorado is a right to carry state. This means that as long as you can legally own a firearm, you can open carry it without any paperwork/permit. In order to carry it concealed, you must attend a class (unless you are a veteran and have it on your DD 214) and get a CCW permit. There are areas that one cannot carry whether open or concealed but for the most part it is a great state for gun owners.

Have you checked to make sure what the open carry laws are in Ohio concerning entering a motor vehicle? Many open carry states clarify that an openly carried firearm automatically becomes concealed once the wearer enters into a vehicle; therefore, having the firearm visibly on your hip while riding in a car counts as concealment.
It is VERY wise to get a permit regardless of whether or not you plan to open carry. I don't think we should have to, but it's wise to do so.

It actually depends though, even in states that allow 'open carry' you may still be required to have a permit or license to carry in certain areas or zones. Since you're in OH you are required one for when it's in your vehicle and it also can't be loaded or have ammo or mag anywhere in the vehicle. You would be required to have a CHL to have it loaded or to 'conceal' in your vehicle. So how would you talk your way out of that question if it were asked?

@beautymerits Colorado is a right to carry state. This means that as long as you can legally own a firearm, you can open carry it without any paperwork/permit. In order to carry it concealed, you must attend a class (unless you are a veteran and have it on your DD 214) and get a CCW permit. There are areas that one cannot carry whether open or concealed but for the most part it is a great state for gun owners.
