I find it unbelievable that the host should have to ask the audience to give Lataji a standing ovation after that performance - especially when they are there to pay tribute to the legacy of her magical voice (which they were not expected to hear anyway that night). It's amazing she can still sing like that at her age.  Incredible!

Lata is choosy because she cannot sing all type of songs. She can only sing easy type of cabaret songs. She is not fit for disco song either. She sang one disco song in Kuddaar and sounded as she had gone mad. Geeta&Asha are much more versatile.Maybe you haven't heard of Suman Kalyanpur, Madhubala Zaveri either. They sings like Lata as well.

Can Asha Bhonsle sing Beedi jalayle as Sunidhi sang? Can Asha sing Aayega Aanewala? Asha cannot. Even her husband chose Lata for kuchh na kaho as Asha could not give justice to that song. So where is your versatility comes?

Can't understand how she is the best female singer as Suman Kalyanpur, Madhubala Jhaveri can sing as good as she can. Asha, Geeta and Sudha malhotra are more versatile than her. I don't think that Lata can sing mera naam chin chin choo or other Geeta/Asha cabaret number. Her sister Asha is better as she can sing sad, happy, classical and many other kind of songs. i have no doubt that all other singers u mention r unqiue: who can forget suman's melodious voice in "aap se humko bichre huwe", or geet'a legendary "waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam", or asha's immortal ghazals in Umrao Jaan. every1 has their favourites, but calling lata's singing screaming tells me that it is not really a rational discussion, but simply an argument for argument's sake. i think that such a rigid view effectively closes any reasonable discussion.
